🐝 Loved spending the afternoon with Eric Ball, former @bengals running back, and his “girls” a few weeks back. When he was kid, his grandmother would give him honey in a comb. He remembers chewing on the wax and loving the raw honey. He learned to be a beekeeper by volunteering at a local farm, watching YouTube videos and reading “Beekeeping for Dummies.” Eric laughs as he says, "I'm like everybody else. The Cincinnati Enquirer staff on Monday celebrated winning the 2018 Pulitzer Prize — journalism’s most prestigious award — in local reporting for their “Seven Days of Heroin” project. . The story was recognized by the Pulitzer board "for a riveting and insightful narrative and video documenting seven days of greater Cincinnati's heroin epidemic, revealing how the deadly addiction has ravaged families and communities." . I am incredibly honored to be part of team who produced “Seven Days of Heroin.” We share this award with our community. So many people opened their lives to us to help tell this important and challenging story. This story would not have been told without them. Ricky Solis, 6, lays in bed after his mom, Sandra Mendoza, and nurse dressed him in a blazer and button down shirt for his mom's wedding. After an auto crash in February 2017, Ricky suffered severe injuries, including paraplegia and brain trauma. His mother's fiancé, Yancarlos Mendez, helped as a caretaker before he was detained by ICE in December 2017. Yancarlos, a dual citizen of Spain and the Dominican Republic, was stopped for driving without a license. He is being held at Morrow County Jail with a removal order to return to the Dominican Republic. Sandra bought a $9 wedding dress to marry Yancarlos inside the Morrow County Jail Thursday, February 8, 2018. Her son, Ricky, was not allowed to witness the wedding and had to wait in the lobby. Sandra's lawyer, minister and a couple of prison guards were the only witnesses. It was the first time Sandra held Yancarlos' hands in more than two months. The family is waiting for the results of a petition their attorney filed to prevent the Mendez's deportation. #immigration #onassignment #cincinnati #wedding (at Morrow County Sheriffs Office)
