I'm an art student currently doing a project about the act of EXCHANGE. Instead of the obvious exchange of money/ material items I have chosen to exchange artist in which inspire me, in return for an artist whom inspires you. So here is Dorothy Cross- 'Eye of Shark', Dorothy is an Irish artist whose practice explores the relationship between the natural world, mankind and time. Cross has used the shark as a recurring motif in her work, an animal that often remains out of human sight but onto which we project our fears. For this show she has installed a shark's eye directly in the gallery wall that gases into a sea of tin baths that are lined, instead of scum from bodily dirt, with gold to delineate between air and water. The exhibition is currently installed in London, Frith St Gallery. Cross inspired my work in a way which helped me to pick out the ordinary memories or objects within my daily life and find a way to change or give them importance, to make them become more extraordinary. This I believe is a good way of reminding ourselves the faith we as humans can put into such a mundane object, such as a bathtub.
