“Are you sure?” Carmel asked, still unsure with the dress she wore as she looked at her own reflection in the mirror then turned to Thor, “You’re so not helping, babe,” she shook her head when Thor basically told her she looked beautiful in both dress, “I don’t want to be under-dressed or over-dressed, I don’t know how fancy the wedding going to be, but I figured it’ll be pretty upscale since her family…” she paused as her cheeks pinkened, she did googled Thor’s ex fiancee before their trip and learned quite a lot about their old relationship. 

“Seriously though, do you think I look okay?” she asked again as she stepped closer to him to straightened his tie and jacket, they didn’t need to be straightened though, she just need to do something with her hands. Carmel was really panicking on the inside and the last time she was this nervous was probably her Masterchef audition years ago, and even that felt pale in comparison especially because she really cares about Thor and she didn’t want people to look down on him because of her. “I don’t want to embarrass you,” she finally admitted why she was so worried. This will be the first time Thor bring her to an event where it’ll be full of high class people and s”he imagined everyone will be wearing branded dress and expensive accessories.

“I am being incredibly helpful,” Thor teasingly argued. He didn’t want her to worry but how could you tell someone that? How could you tell your current girlfriend that she didn’t need to stress out about attending the wedding of his last girlfriend and the woman he once intended to marry? You couldn’t. There weren’t words to ease those feelings. This wasn’t a common situation so there weren’t guidelines on how to handle it. Thor watched as her cheeks colored as a blush warmed them up as she continued to talk about what to wear to the wedding reception. She stopped mid sentence when the blush blossomed and he wanted to know what she was going to say but also didn’t want to push her when she was already stressed. 

“Carmel,” Thor grinned. “You look stunning. You will be within the dress code with either dress but I like this one a lot. I think it will be perfect,” he told her. Hearing her admit her worry about embarrassing him, Thor stood up to walk over and hold her hand. “You’d never embarrass me,” Thor promised her. “I don’t want you to ever think that,” he continued as he held her hand. “I don’t know what to say to not make you worry but you aren’t going to embarrass me. If anything I will embarrass myself by even attending and refusing to talk to the groom who everyone thinks is my best friend. I’m happy that Audrey is happy with him but I’m positive I’m going to glare at Dave the whole time because I still never would have expected my best friend to do something like that to me. People are going to be bothering me with questions and poking holes in the story we concocted to sell the long distance story so I’m going to be the one to embarrass you. I promise you that,” he confessed. There was no possibility or any small inkling that he wanted to be with Audrey again but he was still worried how’d they react upon seeing him and his reaction to see them since the last time they saw each other was when the betrayal was still so fresh. “Please don’t be nervous, I am going to be by your side the whole night and I can’t go to this without you. I need you to be there with me or we can skip it all together and just do our own thing. It is up to you, babe.”

Katherine: Hello brother of mine!

Katherine: where the fuck have you been?

Katherine: Are you alright? I heard you went to you-know-who's wedding.

Thor: Hello sister of mine!

Thor: Everywhere. I go to you-know-who's wedding with Carmel then we went to Paris together which was great.

Thor: I'm okay. It was weird going there as you'd expect.

Thor: How are you, dearest sister?

“Exactly, nightmare.” Nadia shook her head, then chuckled. “Yeah, but she was the sweetest. I got married in one of her dresses and then she made it into a beautiful glass box for me to keep it forever.” She told him, fondly. “Thanks.” Nadia laughed. “Yeah, we have long periods of things going smoothly at work and then everything happens at once.” She explained. “I did. A cat coupon, actually, we haven’t gotten the kitty yet. I’ve been meaning to call you, I wanted to know the best shelters or places for us to go get the little one.” Nadia said excitedly. “They can say what they want, I’m the happiest woman alive right now, very married and a cat mom.” She shrugged, laughing. “Oh, I like the sound of that. You’re a romantic like me, Thor. If it wasn’t for Kat, you’d be my favorite White.”

“Yeah? That sounds really wonderful and so Kat,” he mused. “That is certainly how things go, isn’t it?” Thor mused.  “That sounds like dream,” Thor grinned. He wanted that...to be married and a proud father of both a cat and a child. Thor couldn’t wait to be a husband and father. “I’m honored. There are four of us so I’m runner up which isn’t a bad spot to be in at all,” he joked.

Few hours of flight to Wilmington, they finally settled in Thor’s family home, if the big building can be called home since it looked a lot like a mansion instead, before they got ready for the wedding. Carmel is actually dreading everything about this little detour, but at least she hadn’t met Thor’s family just yet, and hopefully they’re not even in town at the moment. Only few hours before they have to leave for the wedding (they skipped the ceremony and will only attend the reception), Carmel get ready in Thor’s bed room. She put on her make up and pulled her hair into a small, tidy up-do, and put on her dress, “Do you think this dress looks alright? Is it too much?” she asked Thor, not sure if she looked okay, “Or should I wear the red dress? Or it’s not formal enough?” she asked again, unsure of what to wear, unsure if she looked alright for this big wedding, she didn’t want to embarrass Thor by looking plain of course, she knew everyone in that wedding will be from the upper class. Just because of this wedding, Carmel packed too many dresses for just this one small trip. 

Thor had managed to forgot about the wedding for the few hours they were on the plan but the moment they touched down in North Carolina it all came back. He felt awful for dragging Carmel through this because it wasn’t like he was happy about this little stop before their romantic trip to Paris. He didn’t know what to expect or who was even going to be at the wedding and following reception. Thor hoped his parents wouldn’t be at the wedding but just like he was attending for publicity reasons and to continue selling the story they had sold when they had broken up meant that there was a good chance they’d be doing the same. Audrey’s family and his family were friends so his parents getting an invitation was certain but them accepting was what he didn’t know. 

Finishing tying the tie he had chosen for the reception when Carmel asked him about the dress. Turning to look at her, a smile grew on his lips as he looked at her. “You look beautiful,” he honestly told her. “You’d look beautiful in either dress,” he started as he thought about the dress options. He knew she was nervous going to this and wanted to make it as painless as possible for either of them. “Save the red one for Paris. I’d say the red if it were an outside wedding but they are going to have the reception somewhere with plenty of AC so the one you’re wearing will be better. But honestly you will love beautiful in either dress so wear what you will be more comfortable wearing and save the other for Paris.”

“Oh God no, if I got heels higher than those I’d be lasting two seconds in this party. And you’re hearing that from a woman who grew up on her tip toes.” Nadia laughed; she had never been the biggest fan of heels to begin with, and the pointe shoes only made it worse for her. “No, don’t worry, no one was invited. And Kat already gave me the hardest time for it.” She confessed with a chuckle. “Not exactly, we were both working right after and we’re still super busy, but we’re planning on some trips in the future.” Nadia nodded happily. “By the way, I got a cat for my birthday.” She spoke with a wide grin. “Oh, Paris, that’s romantic! You guys are serious about each other, huh?”

“So defiantly no higher heels for you,” Thor laughed. “Plus if you took the shoes off then the dress is super long again,” he mentioned. “That is nor surprising at all,” he chuckled because that sounded like his sister. “Don’t worry, I will not go all angry Katherine on you by any means,” he teased. “Can’t argue with that. I’m very work oriented so I get that,” he laughed. “You did? Welcome to the cat club. Ignore anything that the White sisters say but you are married so you may not come up on their radar,” he teased. “We’ve been together for a few months now so if that is serious....”

“Wow…” she said in slight amazement, she knew Thor is rich, she just never expected him to be this rich, and now she realized this, she actually felt slightly inadequate, maybe Thor should be with someone like Audrey who’s in the same class and social status with him, she wondered what his parents would think of her. Carmel didn’t say anything though, she just looked at Thor, “Well, let’s go. The sooner we go, the sooner we got there and go to that wedding, the sooner we can go to our vacation,” she said, she couldn’t wait for the two of them to go to Paris and have their romantic trip together. “At least there will be cakes and champagne. And whatever you’re bringing there,” she pointed the bag before laughing, “Is it a road trip snack? A road trip snack on a plane, now that is something,” she laughed again before taking her handbag, getting ready to get out off the car.

“That is so true,” Thor nodded, turning his head to smile at her. The sooner they got to the wedding and could sit through both the ceremony and the reception that meant they were closer and closer to graduation. Escaping to Paris for their romantic slash partly work trip was exactly what the pair would need after the debacle that this wedding was surely going to be. Thor knew people were going to ask him a lot of questions and comment on the fact that Audrey was getting married less then a year after they broke up. It wasn’t going to be fun for anyone but hopefully they wouldn’t have to talk to  Audrey or Dave. He could handle his friends or even Audrey’s friends but he didn’t want to talk to his ex or his once best friend. “I don’t have traditional road trip snacks but that is certainly something we can pick up and load up on before leaving for Paris,” Thor suggested. “I have some chocolate strawberries to go with the champagne.”

The line was out the door and she was still in her scrubs, rubbing her tired eyes as she tried to remain patient, but felt like she was going to pass out after spending more than twelve hours on the ward without so much as a nap. It was so bad that she was even drifting, falling asleep standing and bumping into people. She’s just gotten done apologizing to the person behind her who she’d stumbled into, only to lost her balance again and bump into the person ahead of her.  “Damn it, I’m so sorry… I didn’t mean to…” She said softly to them unable to hold in the yawn as she muttered swear under her breath.”

“It is okay,” Thor said with a small smile. He often was that person who was running into people because he was so focused on what was on the small screen of his phone. “You need some coffee or something caffeinated asap,” he said to her. “That, a nap, or a full day’s sleep.”
