While on patrol, Mighty Mare's watch starts vibrating and flashing red. She panics and looks at her watch, knowing full well what it was trying to tell her:

"WARNING: ENERGY LOW. 1%"

This is serious. She knew if her energy levels ran out, she would revert back to her human form. Fragile and incapacitated, and unable to help defend her city.

She races down the street and notices a bright red vending machine, filled with high-calorie snacks and beverages. Time did not permit her the benefit of grace, and she ripped the machine off the floor. In her head, she promised she would pay back the vending machine owner someday.

Using what little energy she had left, Mighty Mare tilted the vending machine towards her mouth, channeling dozens of snacks, confectionery items and sweet beverages down her throat.

Each snack went straight to her stomach. At first, they overwhelmed her system and began sticking out of her belly. But soon, her supernatural digestion turned the impromptu feast into raw energy.

Refreshed and recharged, Mighty Mare stood strong - her belly bloated with power. She resumes her patrol, ready to punish those that seek to cause harm.

To help make Mighty Mare a more balanced character, I needed to find a weakness. Super strength, resilience and the ability to eat and digest nearly anything needs to have some kind of cost.

This is a starting point. Mighty Mare relies on calories and energy to maintain her form and strength. When she runs out, she reverts to her human form. If I ever create a serious comic, I hope to use this mechanic to add tension.

A generic comic

One of the hidden benefits of being an elastic being is your facial elasticity. Facial expressions can be dialled up to 11! Imagine being able to show unparalleled joy, fear, distress - beyond human capabilities.

I really enjoyed leaning into classic cartoon energy, like Ren and Stimpy and Looney Tunes, to capture the wild emotions in this comic. It was a lot of fun.

This doesn't need to be said, but there's absolutely no hard feelings for the comment. I'm grateful for everyone that leaves a comment, both positive and constructive feedback. It was just a golden opportunity to draw 'crazy rage'.

Mighty Mare takes on a giant mech

Sightings of anthropomorphic super-powered women have been sighted across the country. The government created the Anti-Mutant Committee (AMC) to understand, control and, if needed, neutralise this new force.

Knowing that a taskforce was most likely out there hunting them down. Most of these superpowers beings went into hiding. Mighty Mare lived her life mostly as her human persona, but wished deeply that she could be free to be Mighty Mare. To protect her community from danger.

Professor Fitzgerald, lead scientist for the AMC, was very interested in capturing and experimenting on these new beings. He was interested in replicating their genetic mutations, to sell as super-soldier serum to the highest bidder.

Studying Mighty Mare closely, he noted her abilities, strengths and weaknesses. He knew she would respond to injustice and could easily get her out of hiding. He set to work creating a robot that could surpass Mighty Mare's strength.

When his creation was ready, he brought his robot to downtown Metropolis. He began a campaign of destruction, toppling down buildings and putting innocent lives in danger. He knew this would get Mighty Mare out of hiding.

Mighty Mare, unable to watch this show of force, took to action. She leaped from building to building and rushed the robot.

Finally! I ran into a real artist block with Mighty Mare. Elastic characters, like my beloved Mega Mouse, offer really creative opportunities to stretch and morph a character in interesting ways.

Mighty Mare's key characteristics are her strength, kindness, awkwardness and appetite. It was getting hard to think of new things to draw.

But then I said "Screw it, let's draw robots." And that's how this image was born. The end!

Mega Mouse rescues experiment subject

MEGA MOUSE JOURNAL RESCUE FOR PROJECT MUTATION EXPERIMENTS

The files I discovered at Evancore revealed experiments far exceeding all ethical and moral boundaries. They were splicing prototypes of my replicated experiments with human embryos to test inherited genes.

These poor children are basically living guinea pigs to test their formula's stability and side effects. I needed to save them and give them a chance at a normal life.

I knew that breaking in and grabbing one of the children would set off the alarm. Thanks to previous experiments and quick wits, I was able to use my hand as a protective shield after being ambushed.

While I could escape without trouble - the child added complexity. I needed to find a way to suppress the onslaught, without putting them in danger.

I was running out of ideas.

Mega Mouse investigates her old lab

MEGA MOUSE JOURNAL INVESTIGATING EVANCORE PTY LTD'S RESEARCH FINDINGS

After successfully breaking into my old lab, I needed to access the company records. Thanks to our involvement with shady governments and corporations, records were hidden behind an impenatrable vault.

Impenetrable for humans that is.

My elastic form allowed me to squeeze under the 2 ton security door. The most difficult challenge would be to navigate around the laser alarm grid. 

I stretched my elastic body around the room. I could feel each centimetre of my body rub and slide along the cold metal walls. I could harden certain areas of my body to prevent movement, and soften others to nimbly navigate around the grid.

Like a long snake, I slithered across to the computer at the end of the room. I used Shannon's login (sorry Shannon, you need to stop writing your passwords on sticky notes) and looked at the most recent reports.

My worst fears are realised. They've gotten close to replicating the scenario that gave me my supernatural abilities.

The lab supervisor has taken a strong interest in the project. In some of her reports to head office, she mentions how my powers could indicate the next stage of human evolution. I can't quite make out her motive, but it doesn't matter - I need to destroy this research at all costs.

My powers are an accident - they can't be turned into a weapon!

This scene was really fun to draw. I love how the laser grid came out, and Mega Mouse's slippery, stretched body is super cool! Elastic girls are so cool!

Discipline with the right level of motivation

This is another drawing to help me get used to my new drawing tablet. My drawings are coming out a lot better. I dare say it's one of my best drawings to date. Although Procreate rudely crashed on me, and I lost most of my progress. Gotta learn how to backup saves on that stupid program.

Please ignore the fact that I forgot to colour the treadmill screen. Doh!

Mighty Mare blobs from another dimension have invaded the city the only way to stop them is to eat them can you do it?

It's been said that "there is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time." I'm not sure if that quote was ever meant to apply to inter-dimensional blobs.

Thanks for the question! It was a great reminder that Mighty Mare is just one tummy rumble away from eating an ungodly amount of food.

If you look closely, you can see the face of the blob creature. If its emotions are the same as ours, it looks horrified at its impending fate.

Mighty Mare leaps towards you

Mighty Mare leaps towards you, fist behind her, to deliver a devastating attack.

Was watching some Dragon Ball and was inspired to draw a perspective shot like this. I really like it. I decided to go intense shading to match the comic/anime style I was inspired by.

I promise I've got some comics in the works, but I've been too busy to finish them.

Mega Mouse - Sonic Adventure style

I love Yuji Uekawa's style of drawing. In case you didn't know, Yuji Uekawa was responsible for a lot of the promo art for Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.

Their characters are always so lively, and take so much presence. Something that always jumps out to me with his art is the character's hands. They're always big and emphasise action.

Anyway, I was busy this weekend and ran out of time to draw any comics. Instead, I thought I'd do my best to show my respect to Uekawa's work by replicating their style with Mega Mouse.

I wanted to capture two things. Movement/fluidness and hands. I'm terrified of drawing hands, but I tried today and it's not toooooo bad.

Would love to return to this style - it's so much fun! But I don't want to go off style too often. I could see my self getting addicted to this style though.

Mighty Mare learned from a movie that when a giant unstoppable force sees you, you need to stay perfectly still.

We'll see if that advice applies to a rubber cow demigod.

MEGA MOUSE EXPERIMENT INFLATED EXPECTATIONS LOG 4 A body like mine can stretch and deform into limitless shapes. Surely this means I can use gasses, like oxygen, to grow and inflate?

I had to test this in secrecy. There's a risk that I could grow beyond my normal mouse size and be seen by the population. My powers can't be revealed to the world yet.

Through extensive web searching, I learned about an abandoned helium warehouse a few blocks from my residence. Lucky for me, there are still helium tanks at full capacity. These were designed to fill large balloons for parades, which should be more than enough for my tests.

I'll use a hose to deliver the helium into my mouth hole. I'll seal the hose with string or cable ties. I can only hope any other bodily holes will not leak helium during the experiment.

Should my experiment be a success, I will just need to find a way to conclude the experiment and stop inflating before I get too big or worse - burst!
