Editing The Animatic

It was pretty straightforwards when editing the animation just need to put the audio in the right places that went with the visuals and then again using my good friend Essential Sounds to balance everything out

I didn't have time create my own BGM for this sadly but we were told that we are allowed to use sourced audio for this as long as its minor so I found a prefect copyright free low fi beat that went well with the audio and madei its alot better

Recording Audio

When recording the audio for the animatic I used my mic to record my part of the script while Tharushi lives in Australia she used her Iphone to record her part,

Since she used her Iphone Mic it wasn't as clean sounding as it needed to be so I used Adobe Podcast to clean up the audio and it sounded a lot better

Character Design For Officer & Ghost Version

I wanted to have a more realistic style for the officer when he was alive cause it went will with the script,

since he was described as being angry and mad I wanted to showcase that (also crazy anime angle).

But when he died I wanted to make it more light hearted and cartoon

Creating Script For Animatic

When creating a script I found a simple story in this article,

"Another Dutch location said to be haunted is the Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct where a Dutch officer died at the hospital. Some visitors claim to have heard strange sounds, unexplained sightings, and even a feeling like they were being watched while exploring the area."

So using this story me and my friend Tharushi got to writing the script she came up this idea to expand the story more about the officers and give him more a back story

After going back and forth we finally landed on a structure that worked well with the time limit we had

Editing Sonic Storytelling

It was pretty easy when it came to editing the video after watching a few sound mixing tutorials I realized that the Essential Sounds panel in Premiere was all I need when it comes to everything I need to do, fixing audio volumes, adding reverb etc

Creating a BGM

As the original had a BGM I wanted to recreate a BGM as well because it felt very dull without one and just the sounds, So I asked Trishan if I can use FL Studios and he gave me the okay so after that I tried to find tutorials on how to create dark ambient sounds and I found this,

I changed up a few stuff so it didn't sound exactly the same, Sadly I dont have the project file for this anymore as my laptop crashed (mentioned in MI4014 Blog as well) so I lost a lot of my files but thank fully I still have a screen recording I did and sent on whatsapp,

Creating the sounds for animation

So I listed down the sounds which I needed for the animation which were,

Birds

Crickets

Barking

Wind

Laughing

Woosh Sounds

Monster Noises

For the birds I was able to record birds during the afternoon and then I also asked my friends if they could send some as well so I can create variations.

Then for the laughing I got my classmates and some of my friends to send voice recording of them laughing

I recorded both my dog, my neighbors dog and also us barking

For the monster sounds I asked our amazing voice actor Yunus to voice act for me to create the monsters sounds

Figuring Out The Sounds For Sonic Storytelling

I first selected the time that I wanted to do the animation. We were advised to choose from a minute to almost 2 minutes from the animation. I decided to go with a 1 minute 50 seconds from the animation which included these few scenes,

I wanted to add forest sounds which included birds singing the wind blowing, and then when the girl stands up I wanted to have sounds of her walking away.

I wanted to add the footsteps on the ground and as he grabs the door knob

I wanted to add screeching noises as the monster was getting closer and closer to the camera.

I wanted to create a form of foreshadowing as the next scene included a dog/wolf

in the original it was completely quiet so I wanted to make it even more creeper but having people laugh over.

For this clip I want to try to change the genre of the clip from being horror to give it more of a comedic feel.

Hello and welcome to a documentary about a dutch hospital with a little bit of a twist to spice it up

[Origin]

So, the dutch hospital is believed to be constructed in 1681 and was primarily used for Officers and other serving staff to monitor their health and be the main hub hospital in Colombo at the time

[Dutch Invasion]

During the early 17th century, Sri lanka was primarily ruled over the Portuguese specifically the coastal area of Sri lanka when the Dutch arrived with their high naval power The King of Kandy at the time chose to create Treaty which was called the Kandyan Treaty of 1638.

Redoing Narrative

After seeing what kind of storyboards the other had I decided to change my idea from having a chibi style avatar to making it more of a "Vox Style' Documentary Video while also incorporating the Buzzfeed Unsolved Style of video for the ghost part.

So have it more of a Collage style motion graphics documentary with commentary, The story format will be the same as previous but more this style of content.

I wanted to use the above style of motion graphics to create a Expository style of Documentary from the 6 types of documentary that we are able to create with the information that we were provided by our lecturer.
