We like to UwU soft boi Xie Lian a lot. I get it. I like to do it to. He's very cute and pretty like that.

But lets not forget:

He killed his last blood relative in Yong'an

He killed the king of Yong'an, the father of his student

He's fought in AT LEAST two wars that we know of

One of those wars he had no spirital power and he still ranked general (even if he was demoted for other reasons)

He's been living on the ground, in the wild, for 800 years eating his own cooking

Is a swords man so skilled he went toe to toe with the Sword Emperor and won

Love him to death, flower crown and all. He could level you, your house, your country, if he so chooses. Man is a force of nature but CHOOSES not to end us all.

Time to formally introduce myself I guess.

Hello lovely individuals out there. My name is irrelevant but I go by mespinozart in most platforms. I'm a small nb artist who is tryna make a living out of my own art and hoping not to die trying. I do paintings and illustrations but my goal is to make my own comics, so that's where I'm headed.

I'm a geek at heart and I follow several fandoms, specially in anime and manga. BL is my main focus, so anything related to that I'm into. Currently obsessed with TGCF and will continue with it until however long it last, so far it's been a full year of TGCF Hualian brainrot. So follow me for more of that and other things down the line.

In the past year I rediscovered my passion for writing, so if you are interested in reading some TGCF fanfic, follow here.

For me, Banyue is such a good representation of generational trauma and how it can be pass down even without meaning to. Because, let's be honest, XL was not the worst caregiver/parental figure, he did his best despite the fact that he was an unwillingly drafted soldier in the middle of a war and (this is hc for me) he was running away when his compass broke and send him the opposite direction, he was running away from Yong'An from what I believe had to be the Golden Banquet. Imagine a more traumatize character to suddenly be dropped the role of parent and how good would they do. To me the kind of person Ban Yue grew up to be was mostly if not all based on her image of XL and the way he taught her how to view the world (even though Pei Xiu had some influence too). She made a huge mistake yes, and who wouldn't have in her shoes. But she repented! She knew what she was doing was wrong but did it anyways because that's what she thought needed to be done to end all the nonsensical violence. She put herself in the dagger to save others just like how XL always did. He never taught her to do that, but just by the understanding she had of him, she connected the dots in her subconscious. She will never be perfect, much less normal, because XL wasn't either. And that's what I loved about their relationship. An old god who's been through the worst, and a young kid who has only seen the worst. Their dynamic it's so bittersweet. Anyway I didn't have a point to make or anything, just babbling.

This came with an unexpected rant but oh well.

It's her year now.

I firmly believe Hualian aren’t soulmates in the traditional sense of the word. They weren’t directed by some deterministic divine power to be pushed into each other’s arms, they weren’t fated by the heavens, their souls werent “made” for each other

They crawled to each other half-corpses matted with blood. They changed the course of fate for each other. They fought with fate, teeth clinking and bones torn, until their hearts could be made one. They sewed their own red string of fate if the earth refused to do so

When Xie lian saved Hong-er, he didn’t do it because of fate. When Hua Cheng spent 800 years searching for a scorned god, it wasn’t fate that made him do it. When Xie lian held onto san lang’s name like an unspoken prayer to satan. When Hua cheng rebelled against measly laws of nature and dispersion because even though every banquet comes to an end, this one won’t, he won’t let it— they didn’t do it because of something so simplistic as “fate”

Fate is inconsequential in the face of their love; it’s ignorant of their sacrifices; it is lofty and vicious and cruel beyond belief but it’s nothing against the claws of a love which even the blind could see

So no, Xie lian and Hua cheng arent “soulmates”. It’s insulting to limit their love at just soulmates. They did something much more faithful, much more devoted, much more lovely— they chose each other. They chose each other at every turn. They chose each other in a world where no one else would— no one else every did

In a world full of people, in a rat race of endless time— two people who never knew love right, chose to love each other and no fate or divine power will ever get the credit for their courage to love
