Stuck on the idea of vampires as a kind of reverse fae, or like someone's twisted, perverse attempt at moulding humans into fae.

They're repelled by liminal spaces.

A vampire could never enter fairyland, not just because they'd never be welcomed, but because most of the usual entry-ways are naturally barred to them.

They can't cross running water. They can't be seen in mirrors. They will wait forever at a crossroads, unable to pick a direction to go in. They can't even step over a thresh-hold unless there is absolutely no ambiguity about whether they are welcome inside.

They crave human blood, iron and salt, but are repelled by herbs and plants. They are supernaturally prevented from harming you unless the rules of hospitality have been invoked.

A fairy may replace your newborn child with something unnatural and ever-hungry. A vampire will do the same, but with your grandmother's corpse.

The fae are typically associated, even in stories where they're the bad guys, with flourishing and purity. Vampires, even in stories where they're the good guys, are typically associated with decay and corruption.

The fae turn ancient human burial mounds into fancy halls for their courts. Vampires take ancient human castles and let them grow mildewed and cobwebbed, exchanging the beds for coffins, turning them into burial places.

Fae don't tend to live among humans, but can generally pass for them with relative ease if they so choose. Vampires nearly always live among humans, but tend to find not revealing themselves a huge struggle.

I can't think of many stories I've read where fae and vampires even exist in the same universe, let alone ones where they actively interact. I feel like their enmity is almost more inevitable than that between vampires and werewolves, however.

The rivalry between vampires and werewolves is, essentially, the rivalry between two apex predator species who share a territory. (Even in stories where the werewolves aren't actually hunting humans.)

The vampires hate the werewolves because the werewolves interfere with their access to prey. The werewolves hate the vampires either because they consider themselves aligned with humans (the prey species), or because they are also predators and the vampires are competing with them.

By comparison, I think there's some story potential in the fae finding something genuinely creepy and uncanny valley about vampires.

They're immortal, like them, but also dead. They can be beautiful, like them, but that beauty is something they actively require humans to sustain. They like to inhabit beautiful and ancient ex-human dwellings, like them, but they actively work to make those places dark, damp and empty.

Fairies who are unflappable in the face of all sorts of Otherworldly monsters, can look an eldritch horror in the eye(s) without blinking, and have never been phased yet by any human, but will recoil from even the weakest vampire.

Vampires who hate fairies just as much, but in a more envious way. The way that the creature for whom immortality is a curse is bound to hate the creatures for whom immortality is an eternity of sunlight and laughter.

Maybe their touches burn each other. Maybe vampires can't stand physical contact with anything so alive and vital. Maybe immortal fairies become ill from too much exposure to the undead.

Maybe they fight over the human population when their territories overlap. The fairy need for servants and people to make deals with, competing with the vampire need for thralls and blood to drink.

Just… fairies and vampires. We need more stories about them interacting.

So I’ve been doing this thing called Fairyary on Bluesky. It’s like Inktober except for each prompt you have to draw a different fairy. I really like fairies. I like the myths and tales about them and I enjoy any media that has them featured. I even have my own original universe that is heavily inspired off of them. It’s no surprise that I would participate. I was gonna keep all my art on Bluesky but I thought it’d be fun to post my art here too. Below me are all the entries I’ve done so far.

This was my first entry. I originally posted this on February 1st 2025. The theme was “Fresh”. This one was admittedly rushed cause I was visiting some family while I drew it. Still turned out really cute though.

This was the 2nd entry. Originally published on February 2nd 2025. The prompt was “Fauna.” This character’s name is Cerelia. She is an au version of another character I have. This version is a deer like fairy which is why I chose to draw her. You’ll get to know more about both versions in due time.

The third entry, originally posted on February 3rd 2025. The prompt was “Fungi.” Now this entry didn’t get as much attention as I would have liked on Bluesky. I don’t really care too much though. Not everything I upload is gonna be a big hitter.

In stark contrast, the 4th entry was a big hitter. Originally posted on February 4th 2025. The prompt was “Beetle.” I got the idea of a wingless warrior fairy riding on the back of a beetle from someone I know on Discord. They seemed really invested in her and so did the people on Bluesky based on how many likes the drawing got. Admittedly I got attached to the drawing too. I’m thinking of making an original story about her.

The 5th entry is also one I feel was rushed. The prompt was “Mantis.” I based the looks of this fairy off of a character one of my friends on Discord has. They were based off of an orchid mantis. I wish I could have conveyed the orchid mantis theme better.

There is no 6th entry. I chose to skip it cause drawing prairies, or any kind of landscape, is really hard for me. I do have a draft of that drawing in my sketchbook. I’ll finish it someday. Not today though. I’m too tired for that.

The 7th entry was really fun for me to draw. The prompt was “berries”. These two fairies are more OCs of mine. The taller one on the right is named Parfait and the smaller one on the left is named Rosa. I’ve already posted more information about them on Bluesky but I’ll make another post on here later.

The 8th entry is one of my personal favorites, alongside the 7th and 4th. The prompt was “strange”. As soon as I saw it I immediately knew who I wanted the subjects for this drawing to be.

The character on the left is called “Emissary” he is owned by my best friend @thefoundingpossum. The character on the right is an AU version of Emissary that so happens to be fae. He is a mix between a mermaid and a siren. This version exists in the same universe as the fae version of Cerelia does.

Both versions of Emissary are strange creatures indeed. They’re mostly strange in terms of personality, but their looks and origins are peculiar too. They have the tendency to stalk people, especially those they care deeply about, Fae Emissary has a mouth which he uses to (gently) gnaw on people’s arms as a show of affection, they both have a fetish for blood (and other things but I don’t wanna get into that right now), and they both have the ability to use their voice to control others. It’s a power they’ve used to lure people to their untimely demise. Fae Emissary eats people, Robot Emissary either makes his victims join the cult he’s apart of or he uses them as sacrifices for said cult.

The 9th entry took so long to finish. The prompt was “Charm.” I had this character design floating around in my head for a while now. It was inspired by a bracelet that I own irl. I’m so glad I finally got a concept for her design on paper. Like the beetle fairy, I have a story I want to write for her.

That’s all I have so far. All future entries will be their open separate posts.

My drawing of an apple did decently well on Bluesky so I’m gonna post it here too. I drew it cause I had a friend of mine request it on Discord.

According to her, she used to do this thing where she’d ask artists to draw apples as a joke, then she’d collect all the drawings and put them in a folder.

Most of the time those artists would decline though.

A while back I learned that several members of the vintage eight fanbase had created their own designs for Oracle and Prophet, and I wanted in ok that. Here’s my interpretation of Oracle. My interpretation of Prophet will be posted later
