Spock going for Kolinahr was incredible. let me put it into context. you have this brilliant researcher stationed all around the world over the course of five years making breakthroughs every other day. The research trip ends. He is offered several promotions but declines all of them to join a monastery in Tibet. nobody hears from him for a long time until he shows up out of nowhere, stops a huge natural disaster, then picks up his career again as if nothing happened at all.

Opinion Here’s how to get free Paxlovid as many times as you need it
When the public health emergency around covid-19 ended, vaccines and treatments became commercial products, meaning companies could charge for them as they do other pharmaceuticals. Paxlovid, the highly effective antiviral pill that can prevent covid from becoming severe, now has a list price of nearly $1,400 for a five-day treatment course.
Thanks to an innovative agreement between the Biden administration and the drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, Americans can still access the medication free or at very low cost through a program called Paxcess. The problem is that too few people — including pharmacists — are aware of it.
I learned of Paxcess only after readers wrote that pharmacies were charging them hundreds of dollars — or even the full list price — to fill their Paxlovid prescription. This shouldn’t be happening. A representative from Pfizer, which runs the program, explained to me that patients on Medicare and Medicaid or who are uninsured should get free Paxlovid. They need to sign up by going to paxlovid.iassist.com or by calling 877-219-7225. “We wanted to make enrollment as easy and as quick as possible,” the representative said.
Indeed, the process is straightforward. I clicked through the web form myself, and there are only three sets of information required. Patients first enter their name, date of birth and address. They then input their prescriber’s name and address and select their insurance type.
All this should take less than five minutes and can be done at home or at the pharmacy. A physician or pharmacist can fill it out on behalf of the patient, too. Importantly, this form does not ask for medical history, proof of a positive coronavirus test, income verification, citizenship status or other potentially sensitive and time-consuming information.
But there is one key requirement people need to be aware of: Patients must have a prescription for Paxlovid to start the enrollment process. It is not possible to pre-enroll. (Though, in a sense, people on Medicare or Medicaid are already pre-enrolled.)
Once the questionnaire is complete, the website generates a voucher within seconds. People can print it or email it themselves, and then they can exchange it for a free course of Paxlovid at most pharmacies.
Pfizer’s representative tells me that more than 57,000 pharmacies are contracted to participate in this program, including major chain drugstores such as CVS and Walgreens and large retail chains such as Walmart, Kroger and Costco. For those unable to go in person, a mail-order option is available, too.
The program works a little differently for patients with commercial insurance. Some insurance plans already cover Paxlovid without a co-pay. Anyone who is told there will be a charge should sign up for Paxcess, which would further bring down their co-pay and might even cover the entire cost.
Several readers have attested that Paxcess’s process was fast and seamless. I was also glad to learn that there is basically no limit to the number of times someone could use it. A person who contracts the coronavirus three times in a year could access Paxlovid free or at low cost each time.
Unfortunately, readers informed me of one major glitch: Though the Paxcess voucher is honored when presented, some pharmacies are not offering the program proactively. As a result, many patients are still being charged high co-pays even if they could have gotten the medication at no cost.
This is incredibly frustrating. However, after interviewing multiple people involved in the process, including representatives of major pharmacy chains and Biden administration officials, I believe everyone is sincere in trying to make things right. As we saw in the early days of the coronavirus vaccine rollout, it’s hard to get a new program off the ground. Policies that look good on paper run into multiple barriers during implementation.
Those involved are actively identifying and addressing these problems. For instance, a Walgreens representative explained to me that in addition to educating pharmacists and pharmacy techs about the program, the company learned it also had to make system changes to account for a different workflow. Normally, when pharmacists process a prescription, they inform patients of the co-pay and dispense the medication. But with Paxlovid, the system needs to stop them if there is a co-pay, so they can prompt patients to sign up for Paxcess.
Here is where patients and consumers must take a proactive role. That might not feel fair; after all, if someone is ill, people expect that the system will work to help them. But that’s not our reality. While pharmacies work to fix their system glitches, patients need to be their own best advocates. That means signing up for Paxcess as soon as they receive a Paxlovid prescription and helping spread the word so that others can get the antiviral at little or no cost, too.

Writer Tag Game
Tagged by @charmingpplincardigans!
Author Name: MelayneSeahawk
Fandoms You Write For: Currently Good Omens and Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I have written in a bunch of others in the past, and I'm eyeing some others to dive into once I've got more time on my hands
Where You Post: MelayneSeahawk @ AO3
Most Popular One-Shot: To my unending shame, it is still Parturiency, the Star Trek TOS/AOS not-quite-mpreg fic that I wrote as an auction reward (this is prior to the current Trek renaissance, so it's *not* Disco-canon compliant, it's AOS with some TOS bits to round things out). I am by no means ashamed of the fic, but I just don't think it's my best work? So I'm still perplexed by its popularity; it still gets new readers and new kudos even tho it's almost 15 years old.
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: Happily Ever After, hands down. This one is the Good Omens not your mama's A/B/O and also Age of Sail But With Magic AU, and I love it to bits. It's currently not finished, but it's second on my list of WsIP to finish after I finish some of the overdue gift fic/auction rewards I'm sitting on, because I know people like it and also I have a better idea of where it's going from where I stopped, compared to some of the other multi-chapter WsIP on my back-burners.
Favorite Story You Wrote: Probably a toss-up between Flip It, Reverse It, a Reverse Omens AU, and Orlando, a s1 canon-compatible GO fic about Crowley's gender twitchiness. The first one was fun because developing angel!Crowley and demon!Aziraphale was a blast, while the second one was absolutely me channel some of my own gender twitchiness into fanfic, which seemed to resonate with people, so that was cool.
Story You Were Nervous to Post: Absolutely The Heavens Themselves Blaze Forth, another s1 canon-compatible GO fic, but this one has unexpected pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and abortion of non-viable fetus among its warnings, so I was really concerned about treating the topic respectfully. I actually got a sensitivity reader for that one, and provided links to orgs that support folks dealing with pregnancy loss and infertility in the US, the UK, and globally, because I wanted to be very careful that my dumb little fanfic wasn't harmful to anyone.
How Do You Pick Your Titles: Oh man, every way you can think of, I've probably used once. I went through a title everything in Latin phase like 20 years ago that I'm still embarrassed about. These days, it's usually a quote (I abuse Shakespeare horrendously), a line from the fic itself, or just a word or phrase that seems to fit; for whatever reason I don't use song lyrics much anymore, but I used to more often, no idea why. Of the fic I've already discussed in this post so far, we literally have examples of all three.
Do You Outline: I didn't used to, but I do now for two reasons: I am old and decrepit and I forget things, and also I am writing a lot more longer fic that I used to, and I like having a plan for as much of the fic as possible, especially multi-chapter things, so I can foreshadow, etc. I do still shoot off the occasion seat-of-pants one-shot (Girls' Night Out), but I write almost no drabbles anymore, and most of what I write these days is at least 5k.
How Many of Your Stories Are Complete? Of what's posted? Most of them. A few of the ones marked complete are technically abandoned, but they're fully marked. I only have about 10 (at time of posting) WsIP posted to AO3, but I also have two series where the first fic is complete and posted, but there is at least one follow-up story planned (three, actually, if you count the one where I just want to write the faded-to-black sex scene from the original story)
In Progress: Like I said, I have like 10 WsIP on AO3, with like three of them being high priority, because I'm both excited about them and also have them planned out. As to what's not online yet, the two sequels mentioned in the last question have at least some notes or drafting done, but my Highest Priority are the (soon to be) three auction fills I have overdue at Marvel Trumps Hate. The first is fully outlined, and probably about a third done; the second and third I have lots of notes, but no outlines yet. I have lots of other WsIP for shorter things, etc, but the MTH fills and the three AO3 WsIP are at the top of the to-do list.
Coming Soon: Well, it's not fanfic, per se, but the next things that are likely to be out in the world that I've worked on are a discussion post for @gywo about using taste in your writing and three projects for the theatre: two of the scripts of our upcoming Donor Rewards videos are fairytales that I heavily edited/adapted for our use, and I'm also turning all the stage directions into narration for a play coming up later this year. On the fanfic side, the first MTH fill is my first priority, but I also have half a chapter of But Half a Fish written, which shouldn't be hard to finish, plus a third of the next chapter of The Ghost and Ms Fell, and Happily Ever After needs an outline before I can keep going (those are the three AO3 WsIP that are at the top of my to-do list).
Do You Accept Prompts: It really depends. At the moment, no, because I am up to the tips of my hair when spiked with work, overdue fic deadlines, and WsIP. I also have some...difficulties with GO fandom right now (unrelated to the NG fuckery, but that is another part of it), so I'm hesitant to take prompts from unknown people. Things should calm down -- one way or another -- in about six months and then we'll see, but right now, no.
Upcoming Story You’re Excited About: I'm really excited about the MTH fic I'm partway through. The prompt was actually one *I* offered to potential bidders, so the person just gave me an excuse to write it. I really like the premise, and it's coming out well so far, I think (apparently, when I write for MTH, I write epistolary novellas ::shrug:: ).
I Tag: anyone else who wants to talk about your fic! Tag me! I want to know!

Radio Free Monday
Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
nivchara-yahel and her sibling Hem are disabled and currently applying for SSDI and other benefits; they need ongoing support and are currently fundraising for August rent. Hem is also an artist and offering work for donations of $10 or more to those interested. You can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.
Char is raising funds for a friend's cat, Phil, who is currently at the animal hospital indefinitely until he receives treatment; they're still working out what he's dealing with, but are treating him currently for an infection in his liver and are checking for lymphoma. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Anon linked to a fundraiser for a classroom in Texas that is trying to get some missing chapter books in the classroom library, and read-aloud books that focus on marginalized peoples, environmental concerns, and non-Western upbringings. The project page states it will impact ten students, but all students and teachers in the school will have access to these books. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Buy Stuff, Help Out:
sarahmackattack is with Skype A Scientist, a nonprofit science education organization that connects scientists with classrooms, libraries, and scout troops for free; they also run a "Squid Facts" hotline that people can text to receive squid facts, and support a science mural program in Philadelphia. They're currently selling Frog Facts and Crab Facts advent calendars; you scratch off the sticker each day to reveal fun facts about frogs or crabs. You can purchase them and other fun stickers and merch to support Skype A Scientist at their website here.
Recurring Needs:
we_are_spc's AC in their house has gone out, and they are trying to stay cool with only one fan; they are unemployed, and the heat is bad for both their asthma and their cats, as well as several musical instruments in the home including indigenous flutes. They've had a great update which is that the unit itself is working so only the copper lines need to be replaced; they need to raise less than previously thought, but are still trying to get as much funding as possible for the line replacement. You can read more and support the fundraiser here or give via paypal at [email protected], via venmo at rowansong, or via cashApp at rowansong.

thegeeksqueaks's school district has shorted her on her summer teacher's budget; she can't afford currently to stock her classroom for back-to-school. She's raising funds to get food and hygiene tools for underserved kids as well as various aids for neurodivergent kids. You can read more and reblog here, give via DonorsChoose here or via paypal here, or purchase from an Amazon wishlist here.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form. If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.

Agreed. Anyone who calls themself a Trekker is to be avoided whenever possible
I can't explain it but there's a subtle difference between people who say "trekkies" vs people who say "trekkers"

I love folks asking for no spoilers for the rest of Gideon the Ninth after they've read it. "Please no spoilers" my sibling in Jod, I even if I laid the rest of the plot out in bullet points for you step by step in an annotated diagram there is no way I could prepare you for what was happening. I could tell you point blank what happens to each and every character in the series and you'd still read the books and go "what the fuck". Tamsyn Muir made a spoiler proof trilogy. It's like the matrix. You cannot know what happens in future books. To be frank even if you read them it's pretty much uncertain you know what happens in future books. I want the next one right now.

So, because Life Be That Way, my 7D7S wound up getting a little mooshed, which resulted in me doing it in two blocks: three days during the original 7D7S week, then four the week after. Here's how it went:
Week 1, Day 1: worked on But Half a Fish ch 5, but did not complete
Week 1, Day 2: completed outline for @gywo discussion post, due end of the month; also worked on BHaF ch 5 but did not complete
Week 1, Day 3: worked on BHaF ch 5 but did not quite complete
Week 2, Day 4: finished BHaF ch 5 (at last!)
Week 2, Day 5: outlined overdue @marveltrumpshate 2021 fill
Week 2, Day 6: finished outline of BHaF ch 6; posted BHaF ch 5 to AO3
Week 2, Day 7: worked on BHaF ch 6, but did not complete
Overall, I did not accomplish most of what I wanted, but I did still accomplish a lot, especially considering what was going on over that two-week period, and I did finish the discussion post on time, so that's a win. I really like the structure of 7D7S, when I have a bunch of projects I want to work on quickly (and not feel bad about flitting between like a particularly fickle hummingbird), so I may do this again on my own time at some point in the future
GYWO Event Tracking: 7 Days, 7 Stories
This is an event at @gywo where you take a week and try to complete seven projects (a chapter, an outline, a poem, etc) in seven days
Here's my list, with the provisos that a) I may switch things up so that I don't stall out, b) the chapters I intend to write don't have a current posting schedule, and c) I've included some alternate projects at the end, again to switch to so as to prevent stalling:
1 - Write Half a Fish ch 5 (AO3 6) 2 - Notes/Outline/Planning for GYWO Essay due the end of this month 3 - Write/Plan HaF ch 6 (AO3 7) 4 - Outline MTH 2021 (WWII identity porn) 5 - Write HaF ch 7 (AO3 8) 6 - Write GYWO Essay due the end of this month 7 - Write HaF Epilogue (AO3 9)
Alternates: -- take two days on HaF ch 6 if heist requires too much planning -- work on drafting new scenes of original story for submission at the end of the month -- The Ghost and Ms Fell ch 6 -- Happily Ever After outline
I'll be trying to check in over the course of the week. Wish me luck!
