I've been on a HUGE Devil May Cry kick since last September... With Nero being my current videogame crush...

If you read my last update, this game series is one of the biggest reasons why I haven't been writing on Alana's and Nathaniel's story. I can't write about their love story whenever I can't get my mind off of Nero. So, I took a self-insert that I had made for the Black Clover universe and repurposed her for the DMC universe. In know. I know. I'm thirsty... Finral is still my current anime crush, and I still love Nathaniel, but Nero has taken priority...

So, I had the bright idea to have Alice edit an illustration for me. Nathaniel is the perfect love interest to turn into Nero, so I went with one of his illustrations that doesn't have his right arm in it. Nero gets his human arm back at the end of DMC5, but he spends most of the game with various prosthetics (his Devil Breakers are a key game mechanic). The background is from Season 2 of Eldarya. This image is supposed to be that Nero got a call for a mission while he and Melanie were on a date, so the date had to get cut short. She doesn't want him to go, but knows he needs to. So, she ends up telling him to be safe and to come back to her as soon as possible. If you don't actually wanna read me rant about why I don't ship Nero with Kyrie, then don't read after the cut. If you do, then you're in for a wild ride.

Even though I am well aware that Nero is in a canon coupling with Kyrie, I am not fond of that coupling. In DMC4, Kyrie basically spends the entire game either being a "Sweet little singer", "Devout cult member" or "Damsel in distress"... All while hiding behind Nero and Credo and being used against them by the cult. On top of the fact that she is, technically, his adoptive sister. In DMC5, she's not even present in person... Either only being a voice of reason to Nero at the end of the game, screaming out Nero's name at the beginning of the game, being casually mentioned whenever Nero "messes up", or having a section in Nico's files. Seriously, the most important thing she does in DMC4 is basically the same thing that she does for Nero at the end of DMC5. Apparently, she has more of a presence in Before The Nightmare, but as it doesn't have an English translation (even though I do have a copy of the book), I can't quite count that... I also can't stand the fact that, during an interview for the 4th game, one that's published at the end of the Graphic Arts book that covers 1-4, the creators of the game state that, without her, Nero would have gone on a similar path as his father, Vergil. I cannot accept that. I don't ship him with Nico, but I hate the fact that Nico is clearly nowhere near as "important" as Kyrie, yet she has one hell of a personality that is established throughout DMC5... In fact, Nico has more of a personality in the first 10 minutes of 5, than Kyrie has throughout both 4 and 5. As much as I want to like Kyrie, I cannot stand characters like her. If they're so damn important to one of the main characters, they need to be properly established with more personality traits than "Damsel", "Kind", "Generous", "Beautiful" and "Good singer". Characters without flaws, especially love interests, piss me the fuck off.

I don't ship Nero with Nico because it's established very early on that they have more of a sibling relationship. Nico doesn't see Nero that way... In fact, bare minimum, I think she's at least bisexual. Especially whenever she comments on Lady having a "pretty smoking body" and the way she reacts whenever Nero gives her a look and shakes his head. As a bisexual woman myself, I know gay panic when I see it.

I don't ship Nero with Lady for multiple reasons. On top of the fact that she is way too old for him, and he knows it... I ship her with Dante. Lady is basically his aunt.

A/N: MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL

¤Dante¤

-Dear God, if you think he was a wacky woo hoo weirdo before, he gets even crazier during Christmastime. Gorges himself sick on spiced egg nog and iced sugar cookies, as well as stuffed turkey and mashed potatoes with extra thick gravy.

-To Dante, Christmas is all about eating. That line from "A night before Christmas" has never been applied to someone in real life more accurately than now. "Visions of sugar plums danced in their heads..."

Yeah, that's Dante.

-Plays Christmas rock music (think Jingle Bell Rock) on full volume while jamming along with his guitar in the middle of the living room, wearing naught but a Santa hat.

-Decorates the whole of Devil May Cry with like a thousand knotted Christmas lights because he was way too lazy to untangle them (Figures) and brings in a really cheap, withered looking tree like the one in Charlie Brown. Though, like Charlie Brown, you guys managed to fix it up real nice.

-Drags Vergil and Nero to your place for a fun, family Christmas, but things go south real quick: Nero ends up stealing all the treats and eating dessert before dinner, Vergil and Dante drink too much liquor spiked egg nog and have a drunken brawl in the living room before passing out in the hallway.

-At the end of the night, you had to drag all the boys into the living room and cram them either into sleeping bags or wrangle them onto the couch before exhaustedly trudging back to your own bedroom for a long night's rest. Merry Christmas.

《Vergil》

-The mature and responsible one--also the one who wants to have the least involvement with everything. Just sits in his plastic chair, reading his book, not caring nor acknowledging what is happening around him.

-It is therefore your duty to put up the decorations and cook the Christmas meals, but don't despair. You won't be alone. Nero and Dante have come over for Christmas (Vergil was against it, but they're family) and are more than happy to help--even if all they do is make messes.

-Christmas dinner with the Sparda family are typically a mixture of loud and rambunctious chattering (caused by Dante and Nero joking around) and quiet conversation with Vergil, which can barely be heard over the other two's yammering.

-After dinner has been devoured and the two idiots have left, Vergil lets out a sigh of relief--a sigh only a long suffering eldest sibling can make. Then he heads for his plastic chair, ready to delve back into the world of his book.

-Doesn't mind if you want to sit on his lap and cuddle while he reads. It is cold out, after all. ♡

-Spends the entire night chilling with you, watching movies, reading books, and eventually falling asleep in each other's arms.

♤Nero♤

-Takes after his father, in the sense that he likes cuddling and just relaxing, either by himself or with you.

-Unfortunately, he also takes after his uncle, in the sense that he's loud and loves to eat. He loves it so much in fact, that nearly all the cookies vanish before you can get to ice them, and it probably wasn't Santa.

-Has no idea how to hang decorations so he just buys a cheap wreath, throws it on the door, and decides he's done for the day.

-Dresses up as an elf and parades around with a radio blasting Micheal Buble on loop, specifically to get on your nerves and distract you from whatever you were doing.

-When Vergil and Dante come over for dinner, expect absolute chaos. Vergil cannot wrap his head around why his son--his own FLESH AND BLOOD--is prancing about dressed in a green skintight leotard. It's too much for him. He spaces out and just stares at the wall blankly, barely touching his food while wondering what influenced his poor baby boy to be this way.

-Meanwhile, Dante is having the time of his life, laughing his head off while snapping pictures to post online and to show the others so they have more excuses to make fun of poor Nero.

I often see ppl think Dante doesn’t love/care about Nero when as far back as DMC4 this scene where he looks at Nero one last time fondly before leaving exists. He just thought he couldn’t be a part of Nero’s life because he thought it wouldn’t bring him happiness.
