Mock Exam Evaluation.
Overall I pleased with the photographs for my project because I feel that they are a good quality and I know I have worked hard to do them. The lighting and composition of each photo was important to me and therefore took time to make sure each photo was a high quality and appealed to the viewer and had a strong impact towards them. In my first photoshoot I am not as fond of them as they look like a lower quality of photo compared to my second photos and third which is because they look rushed and look like not a lot of thought went into them.
I think that I struggled a little bit at the start of the project because i doubted myself a lot and wasn’t fully confident in what I planned to do in the exam. However, I did do a lot of research into what I wanted to do and practiced and felt I had give my best shot at the project in the exam and am fairly happy with the quality of how they came out. I am not happy with parts of the technique due to the way it appeared therefore, looking back, I think that in my earlier photos I would capture more landscape scene to double expose into the models. However, I believe that given the time and the constraints I faced, I believe that my project was a success and would like to replicate this in the future. In hindsight, I would definitely try get more landscape photos and try more techniques. I do feel i let myself down with the landscape/nature photos in my final photoshoot and think they could have been better because they didn't work out as well as i thought in the exam when doing double exposure.
I think that on the whole, my final pieces were a success and reflected what I can be capable. I think that if I had more time, then I would have felt confident enough to take more of a variety of photos and experimented more with them, and combine different materials together as well as try different methods and do double exposure on different models and parts of the body. I think that if I had been able to do this and explore more of my ideas, then I could have produced a more diverse range of final pieces for the final outcomes because I would have had the experience of combining different conceptual elements together and been able to build up my skills an ability in the technique I done. In hindsight, i would try to be more creative with double exposure and possible incorporate parts of plants into people instead of a landscape and so would replicate the eye of nature photos instead to see how they would turn out.

Photoshoot 3- Portraits and landscapes.
I took a variety of photographs in a white studio and black studio. I used a side light for the black studio and the white studio. I felt that both studios suited the models completion and came out as a high quality photo.

I think that the image is more of a piece of fine art as it is a well put together photograph and is not advertising anything.
What is your personal response to this photograph and how does this photograph inspire or relate to your own work?
I like the creativity put into these photographs. I can see hard work had been put into them. The photos are relaxing because they are almost natural in sense as both photos work together. They relate to my work as I have also tried double exposure and Antonio Mora has inspired me to do so.

Brainstorming Ideas for Final Photo-shoot.
For my final photoshoot i am going to try double exposure. I want to incorporate nature into people. If i am unable to do this then i want to make my photos look very old and add them to a galley. I also want to possibly try see what it would look like in a zine or a gif.

Artist analysis- Christoffer Relander
Christoffer Relander is a professional photographer. He was born in December 1986 in Finland. His work has been seen in magazines such as “LA Times”as well as “VICE” and exhibited in galleries such as the “Mona Gallery” in the USA and the “GEO Gallery” in Norway.
1. What is the photographer’s motivation for being a photographer? What is the photographers motivation for taking/creating landscape images?
Christoffer Relander had been interested in art started at an early age, but it was not until he served the Finnish Marines that Christoffer became interested in the art of photography.
2. What is the location in the photograph?
The photograph is of a Rural area as it is of only nature with no man-made structures visible.
3. Describe and explain the techniques that the artist has used to distort the original landscape photograph?
With analog multiple exposures Relander is able to manipulate his film in-camera.He has not used external software such as Photoshop. All double exposures are exposed on medium format film that Relander develop and scan himself. He also in some of his projects intentionally over exposes his photographs which cause the photo to look old and weathered of which can be seen in the photographs below:
4. What do you understand ‘surreal’ to mean in art and photography? What rehe visual elements in the photograph that make it surreal?
5. Discuss the main technical or formal elements featured in this photograph?
Christoffer Relander quoted that “Reality can be beautiful, but the surreal often absorbs me. Photography to me is a way to express and stimulate my imagination. Nature is simply the world. With alternative and experimental camera techniques I am able to create artworks that otherwise only would be possible through painting or digital manipulation in an external software.”
6. Do you consider the image to be a photograph or more of a piece of fine art?
I think that the image is more of a piece of fine art.
7. What is your personal response to this photograph and how does this photograph inspire or relate to your own work?
I enjoy the photos Christoffer Relander has produced. He had created his own techniques to capture his photographs and it is them techniques which have created mesmerising photographs.

Photoshoot2.
Section 2: (After photoshoot).
Upon reflection, I am happy with the quality of my photographs. The photographs were successful, however i believe that i have not used a wide enough range of flowers in my photo-shoots. I also do not believe that burning the flowers worked well as flowers die slowly and burning them was fast and too unnatural.
Section 3: (Reflection/ next steps)
In the next set of photographs, I think i will attempt to capture weathering the photographs through severe weather such as fire, floods and storms. I want to do it in a way that is looks like the photos have come from a house that has suffered from bad weather. This would relate to my theme of man v nature as the weather is almost natures way of fighting back and pictures are man made as they are not naturally produced. An artist i will look at is Lucus Simoes.

Artist analysis- Lucas Simones.
This photographer is Lucas Simones. He is a professional photographer. He has had his work shown in the exhibition in the ‘Lora Reynolds Gallery’ in Austin as well as the gallery in London known as ‘The Place Downstairs’.
1. What is the photographer’s motivation for being a photographer? What is the photographers motivation for taking still-life based photographs?
Lucas Simoes was training as an architect but through this it redefined his perceptions of art and opened new paths of discovery. In architecture, he says, ’a drawing is more than a drawing: it is the intent that something concrete will materialize through the construction process’. This outlook has influenced his drawing process and his constructive approach to his work with collage and sculpture.
2. Discuss weather this photograph has been taken for commercial purposes, editorial purposes or fine art purposes.
I believe the photos were taken for fine art purposes as Lucas Simoes was experimenting with what he could create and wasn’t intended to be for an editorial or a commercial purpose.
3. Discuss the content of this photograph? What is the photographer trying to communicate to the viewer.
I think that the photographer is trying to communicate to the viewer that sometimes things are not as they seem. He states that to burn a photo is similar to burning away a memory and with time as the photo burns the memory slowly fades away.
4. Discuss the main technical or formal elements featured in this photograph?
Lucas has used photographs that are not his own but edited them in a way to make them his own. He has burned the photograph and progressively got better at this which is clear as he has been able to create patterns with burning such as burning the eyes and partly down from their so it almost looks like tears.
5. Do you think the photographer has manipulated this photograph using digital? If you think that he has then what impact do you think that this could have had on the way viewers react and respond to the photograph?
I am unsure as to if the artist has edited the photographs in any way. For me it is clear he has burned the photos and possibly took the photo while it burned however, with the patterns it does seem the artist may have used GIMP of photoshop to burn the photograph.
6. What is your personal response to this photograph and how does this photograph inspire or relate to your own work?
I find Lucas Simoes’ to be unusual work but i enjoy his creativity when it comes to his work and the way he associates burning a photograph which is often a way to describe wanting to erase a memory such as after a break up wit the actually memory disappearing. He has a beautiful way of relating something that could seem hateful and turning it into a way to capture the wanting to forget.

Photoshoot 2.
Section 1: (Before Photoshoot).
In the next set of photographs, I am going to take photos of flowers in a dark room so the flowers are the main focus. I want to try this with different varieties of flowers to see how them come out and then will know what i want to do with the next set. I am linking this to Billy Kidd as i am going to take these photos over a few weeks to capture them naturally decaying and then experiment on them. i am going to experiment of the previous shoots photos and some recent photoshoot where the flowers are more dead.

Section 2: (After photoshoot)
When looking back at the photographs i have taken i am overall happy with their quality and the way they came out. They were clear images and do show the aspect that i am trying to create. I would like to try more different varieties of flowers and go out to capture more things i could include in my work or create scenes i could use.
Section 3: (Reflection/ next steps)
In my next set of photographs i am going to photograph more flowers. I want to next photograph some nature in a black studio. I will do this multiple times as i want to capture the process of natural decaying.

Artist analysis- Billy Kidd.
The photographer is called Billy Kidd who is a self taught professional photographer. He has got his work featured in the Clic Gallery in New York and also in the Masters & Pelavin gallery in New York.
1. What is the photographer’s motivation for being a photographer? What is the photographers motivation for taking still-life based photographs?
In an interview with “APhotoEditor” Billy Kidd stated ‘My mother is a painter who has served much inspiration for as long as I can remember.’ He also stated that artists including Irving Penn, Stieglitz, Steichen and others had all been inspirational to him. But he States that his girlfriend “Heather Huey” for inspiring him to start taking photographs.
2. Discuss weather this photograph has been taken for commercial purposes, editorial purposes or fine art purposes.
The photographs have been taken for more of a fine art purpose as it was for a personal self photo but could be sold. It wouldn’t be for commercial as the photograph has not been used for advertising and is not advertising anything. The photograph could be for editorial purposes where is could be used in an article for discussions around the object in question in this case a rose.
3. Discuss the content of this photograph? What is the photographer trying to communicate to the viewer.
The photograph is showing a decaying rose of which resembles beauty. It could essentially be used to communicate messages to viewers but Billy Kidd has not done this due to him having taken the photographs for his own personal project.
4. Discuss the main technical or formal elements featured in this photograph?
This photograph is of a decaying flower of which is a natural process. It contains negative space which allows the flower to be the main focus. The background is al black therefore meaning the colour of the flower is the only colour visible. All this overall makes the photograph the main focus.
5. Do you think the photographer has manipulated this photograph using digital? If you think that he has then what impact do you think that this could have had on the way viewers react and respond to the photograph?
I do think that Billy has lighting edited the photograph to darken the background. I don’t think this affects the photograph a lot but does help the photograph have a better impact due to the flower standing out more.
6. What is your personal response to this photograph and how does this photograph inspire or relate to your own work?
I like this photograph and it relates to my work as i want to capture decomposing flowers. Of which i will let decay naturally but I’m also going to aid the process to show how humans impact nature.
