jason wants to roll his eyes at dick's crooked smile, of course he's trying to be optimistic throughout all this.

he had no idea how dick managed blüdhaven all by his own, bruce had trained how many robins at this point? and they still couldn't keep up with everything happening in gotham. still, jason felt like he could never leave. gotham had raised him and it would be wrong to leave her behind.

he lets out a slow dramatic breath at dick's explanation for his wound. "man, that's a lot," he said, already hearing dick's no shit response in his head. "you haven't reached out to babs yet, have you? i'm sure she'd love to help," he asked, resisting the urge to tease his older brother about their romantic relationship. "bruce just got joker back in arkham a few days ago, hopefully he'll actually stay there for a bit."

he tries to shoot @mecwmellc one of his award winning smiles, except his heart is not in it. it comes out crooked.

dick’s officially screwed if jason raises his concerns to tim or bruce. bruce probably already knows, but thinks dick has it handled. tim will figure it out the second he knows where to look—the kid's a bloodhound.

as much as he could use their help, he knows gotham needs them more than he does.

he could say that blüdhaven’s a garbage fire of a city, that it’ll never stop being corrupt, and that he's wasting his time trying to fix it. except that wouldn’t be fair. there are people here trying to make it better. trying hard. he can’t give up on them. he won’t. they deserve better than someone willing to walk away as soon as things get rough.

on the same note, dick is way too tired to move, and that means he at least owes jason a real answer. "blüdhaven’s getting weirder. blockbuster and lady vic are shaking hands, and slade decided that meant i needed a knife in the side."

this is not how i was expecting this day to play out.

out of everyone jason was not expecting to see dick show up to his safe house. he had been spending a lot of time in blüdhaven, showing up when bruce or alfred, mostly alfred, gave him a call and invited him to dinner at the manor. still, jason wasn't really complaining. it was always nice to see his siblings even if they were bleeding on his couch.

he had no idea that dick was dealing with deathstroke of all people, just that blüdhaven had been more rough than usual which was saying something. he knew that dick could handle it and jason had his own job to do here in gotham, but he still wondered.

he rolls his eyes at dick's lack of response, glancing at his couch to see that dick had put a towel down before letting his body rest. "that's not what i mean and you know it," he insists. "you gonna tell me what's going on in blüdhaven or not? don't forget that i have tim and the detective skills from bruce," he adds. while everyone saw batman and robin as two superheroes who beat up bad guys, jason knew that bruce spent hours in the batcave to see where they'd be. too many times he had walked in after bruce had pulled another all nighter, insisting to alfred that he was okay.

"i assume that the rumors surrounding you are all false and unrelated to why you're bleeding out on my sofa?" from jason

It's not his finest moment. Lying in Jason's safe house, half-sprawled out on the couch, boots still on, shirt peeled up and sticky with blood, and a stab wound in his side that refuses to quit it.

He knows he’s not close to bleeding out. He’s been closer, too close, back when he wore the cape and later, under his own name. He knows what that feels like. No shallow breaths, no spinning room, no skin stretched too tight. Not yet, anyway. He’s got time.

The stab was a parting gift from Slade. Deathstroke could’ve gutted him if he wanted to. A clean kill was never the point. This? This was a warning. A message. Fat chance he was going to take it.

Dick takes offense. He’d been nice. He’d thought ahead. Out of everything they’ve both been through, staining Jason’s couch somehow still feels worse than the wound. "I put a towel down," he says, avoiding the question in almost its entirety. He has everything under control; he doesn't need to discuss rumors.
