Everything BTS has ever done, both good and bad, related to all social justice issues
I find it absolutely fascinating how so many different people talk about BTS in such different ways, with some of their fans saying they’re among the most progressive celebrities on the planet while others say they’re the prime example of racism in K-Pop.
I was out sick for a couple days, had some time off, couldn’t get this off my mind (we love fixations), and I like pretending to be a sociologist, so: here’s a chronological list of everything BTS has ever done related to all social justice issues (racism, misogyny, LGBT issues, mental health issues, etc), both good and bad, compiled just to have it all in one place.
This could be used as both a callout post and a compilation of how great they are. Either way, I just request that you read all of it beforehand for a complete picture.

Alright, folks, hear me out. A Death Note Money Heist (Casa de papel) AU. Don’t tell me you can’t see the potential.
L would fit perfectly the role of the Professor.
He’s the chess-player, the mastermind who controls the entirety of the heist from behind the scenes, playing with the police and constantly tricking them into doing exactly what he wants them to do. Of course, nobody knows his real name, just L.
Now, you might think that Light should be the leader inspector. I know, I thought that too, for a moment. But listen up, listen up… wouldn’t he be AMAZING as Berlin?
Just like Berlin, he’s the on-field leader of the heist, elegant, professional and charming, always dressed formally, wearing suits and ties or waistcoats. He’s sarcastic and plays mind games with the hostages and the other members of the crew.
His fake name would be Kira, obviously.
Theoretically, the crew members shouldn’t know each other, also due to the “No Relationship Rule” established by L at the beginning. But it’s clear that L and Kira are pretty close, since during the training for the heist they’ve been seen chatting and sipping wine together at night. But the nature of their relationship is unclear.
He’s the only one who questions L’s orders, the only one who manages to infuriate him. When he breaks the “No killing hostages” rule (Spoiler: he doesn’t, he just makes L believe that), L punishes him by revealing Light’s name to the public eye, just like the series. Light is livid.
So, you’ll be wondering who the actual leader inspector would be. Well… how about Near?
He’s the responsible for negotiating with L. Their conversations are a source of entertainment for both sides; his intelligence and composure make him a worthy opponent, and the heist is the most interesting puzzle Near has ever had to solve. However, L is always one step ahead.
Then we have Mello, of course. Can you guess what role he would be perfect for? Cause I can totally see him as Tokyo, quick to lose patience and tending to let his emotions get in his way. He was saved by L from spending his life in jail, after being wanted for his connection with the mafia, which is why he greatly admires and respects him.
However, he breaks the “No Relationship Rule” by beginning a romantic relationship with Matt, the hacker of the crew.
He constantly questions Kira’s authority, defying and challenging him on multiple occasions. After playing the Russian roulet with the on-field leader in the bathroom, he finds himself tied to a cart, with Light smirking down at him, and the last words he hears before being pushed out of the Royal Mint are “You look like a birthday present”.
He gets caught by the police, of course, and interrogated by Near, which marks the start of their love-hate relationship, since they both find the other annoying and interesting at the same time. (Yes, it’s a nearlymellodramattic triangle, you decide how this plays out.)
Don’t worry, anyway, he then gets back into the Mint on his motorcycle, just like Tokyo.
As I mentioned before, Matt’s role would be the equivalent of Río’s, but his personality is a whole different story.
Beside L, he’s the only one who manages to reason with Mello, we have him to thank for the Mint not being on fire. Now and then a hostage will try to hit on him, with the result of Mello losing his mind (Nobody gets hurt, don’t worry, Matt makes sure of that).
Speaking of hostages, Matt is very friendly with them, offering them cigarettes and making jokes. Sometimes he even lets some of the teens play with his video games, when he sees them getting too distressed with the situation (Well, I’d say that’s understandable, I’m sure being held hostage is not such a nice experience… even when the captors are so hot).
So now… could we ever do without Misa? Oh, Misa. She stole everybody’s heart.
Just like Nairobi, Misa is enthusiastic, motivating and always active. She’s sweeter than Nairobi, but rest assured that she’s a badass too. She’s an expert in falsification, which is why she’s in charge of quality relating to the printing of money. She leads the production of money with kindness and determination, and every soul in the Mint fell in love with her (Apart from Mello and Matt, for obvious reasons, and Kira, for not so obvious reasons).
And last but not least… Matsuda. I know, I know, he’s such a cinnamon roll, how could he ever take part in a money heist? But please, indulge me. Nobody knows why and how he got there, but he’s got a pretty good reason. Yes, exactly, Matsuda’s got a dark past he’s not willing to share with anyone. He’s still a cinnamon roll, though.
He happens to listen to a heated argument between Naomi Misora, the secretary of the Mint, and her boyfriend, Raye Penber, the director of the Mint. He steps in and makes up an excuse to make Raye go away, telling him Matt requires the director’s presence (Matt is going to be pretty confused, but he seemed like the lesser of the evils. Well, certainly better than Kira). He then turns to Naomi: “Are you alright, miss?”. And that is the beginning of a beautiful connection… can you imagine where this is going? I’m sure you can.
But now let’s get to the end of the story, this is the only part I’m going to narrate. I warn you, I’m inserting direct speech here.
So, just when the robbers are ready to leave the Mint, a group of police officers manages to get in. This results in a gunfight that risks to end in disaster for our anti-heroes. In the commotion, they hurry to the tunnel they’ve been digging since their arrival, directly connected to the hideout L is waiting for them at, while sending orders through their earbuds.
Two police officers are breathing down their neck and, when the rest of the crew has entered the tunnel, Kira stops to slow them down with a series of shots, then hides behind a turned-over table. L doesn’t like this plan one bit.
-What the hell do you think you’re doing?-
L’s tone is agitated as never before.
-What does it look like to you, smartass?-
-Like the worst idea you have ever had. Get in that fucking tunnel.-
-For someone who’s so clever, you’re clearly missing the obvious. I get in the tunnel, they get in the tunnel. It’s your idea that sucks.- He looks out to resume the gunfire, then hides again. -You’re slipping, you know-
-You pretentious as… Light. Light, no kidding. If you don’t enter that tunnel right now, I’m going to come over there and get you out myself.-
Light smirks. -No, you’re not. I’m still mad at you and I don’t want to see your stupid face.- The officers back out for a moment, but he knows they’re hiding behind the door ajar, waiting for the moment his head sticks out. Light sits down, his back against the table, his head tilted back. He whispers: -I don’t know if I’ll ever see you again. This could be goodbye, L Lawliet.-
Without waiting for an answer, he takes off the earbuds and drops them on the floor, crushing them with a foot. That’s when the shots start again.
On the other side of the line, L is speechless, he feels suffocating. He had known the heist was dangerous, but he would have never thought… Light…
Minutes pass, and the rest of the crew has reached the hideout. They’re all fine and thrilled to have made it. Then they notice the lack of a certain someone. “Where’s Kira?” “He was right behind me!”
L gulps and tries to find his voice. -Kira… he… he stayed inside.-
Mello frowns. -What do you mean he stayed inside?-
-I mean he stayed inside the Mint, Mello, what don’t you understand about “stayed” and “inside”, eh? I guess I’ve been overestimating your intellectual abilities for all this time, there’s no other explaina…- And right when he’s in the process of losing it, the hideout’s entrance is opened, and Light gets out of the tunnel.
L gapes at him, astounded. They lock eyes, and time stops. Light cracks a grin, then, and L gets out of his paralysis. -Light-
He reaches him with a few quick steps, and puts his hands on the other’s face, stroking his cheeks, his temples, his hair. -How can someone with such a beautiful mind act like an absolute idiot?-
Light smirks. -Oh, I have no idea. That is for you to tell me.-
And they stay like that, too lost in each other to aknowledge the rest of the world.
-Wait, you’re telling me L and that motherfucker… No, that’s not possible. I can’t accept it. This is utterly disgus…-
-Mello. Shut the fuck up.-
Did this idea come to my mind with the release of Casa de papel s5’s trailer? Yes.
Did I have more important things to do than writing this? Yes.
Did I choose to completely ignore that? The answer is also yes.
Have a nice day, everyone!
