Ty and Matt were hanging out in 150′s living room while eating take-out and chatting about the ARG. It was really a last-minute thing, none of them had dinner and they were both starving, so things happened naturally. 

Everyone was out for the moment, so they had the house for themselves, which was something that did not happen every day.

“I can’t believe this house is empty, it’s like a motherfucking miracle.” Matt commented, serving a slice of pizza on his plate. “So, about the ARG, have you ever heard Rabbits? The podcast. I swear you’re gonna like it, they have a whole investigation using internet and stuff. We can really make up some urban legends, like the Blair Witch Project thing. They created the rumor before releasing the movie, brilliant marketing strategy, if you ask me. And then we can bury old posts on internet forums to leave clues behind.”

Matt felt weird having such a personal conversation with Kaela and then just fucking off. Not with the knowledge that they were inevitably bonded over shitty, unfaithful parents who didn’t give a fuck. The invitation was unexpected even from him, but he didn’t have many girl friends. 

So, maybe he should get to know a little bit more the rest of the girls. Especially because girl friendships seemed to be really fun: they were really honest with the guys, as far as he knew. Besides that, Kaela seemed to be really fun. 

“So, last time I came here I almost got banned. It’s been a few months, I wanted to let it cool off a bit until the next time, you know? Give the owners some peace of mind. Not something extraordinary, but I did almost blow up the toilet. It wasn’t even my fault, if you ask me.” He shrugged, walking alongside Kaela, while they entered Soho.

If there was one thing Matthew’s mother made sure he knew, it was horse riding. Playing violin and piano as well, sure, but he wasn’t any good at that, so she invested mainly on his horse riding skills. As it was, Lexi also had her fair share of experience with it, alongside other rich people habits. 

In the end, unexpectedly, they ended up bonding over this: being privileged. 

“Are you into horse racing as well? I hear Americans are big on that. I wanted to go pro with horse racing, but I don’t think I was good enough. There are tons of requirements you have to meet, not to mention the danger. Mother was fond of he idea, but when I broke my leg, I think she thought twice about it.”

It’s not a rule, but sometimes, when two families meet for business as much as the Faraday and the Buchanan did, their children inevitably get close. This time, lightning did strike the same place twice, because not only RJ and Matthew become friends, but they still kept the same bond their whole lives. 

Living that far away from your best friend sucked ass, so the first opportunity they had to live together, they took it. It was a no-brainer, no questions asked. The living dynamics worked better than anyone would imagine: Matt acted as a buffer for RJ to loosen up, while RJ kept Matt in check so he wouldn’t fuck up that much. The perfect balance. 

So, as dictates fate, something happened and Matthew knew just the person to help him figure out the situation.

“Mate, something happened and I don’t know what. I think I fucked up.” He confessed, leaning against the kitchen counter. “A few days ago, I sent Alo a message about something and deleted our chat history. The thing is: I went hotboxing with Dani and Burke that night, so you know... I have no memory of it. I’m avoiding Alo like the plague, since I had no idea what it was, but... Fuck, what do I do?”

So you surround yourself with ideas, projects, people. You try to fill the void there’s inside your heart by not letting yourself think about it.

Illusionism is about diverging people’s attention to POINT A, so you can pull a trick on POINT B and they will never see it coming.

Boring, as in uninteresting. You crave love, affection, attention. Because you never had them. You were never someone’s best, were you? So you overcompensate. 

You’re not boring, not over your dead body. You’re a good time, not a long time. 

So, you forcefully make “B” turn into fucking Brilliant, which is really near from Borderline Neurotic. 

Then, because of “B” - as in the lack of a Beloved Mother, Father, or someone who cared - you’re also Brash. 

And there’s your mother, right? Who said that being empty is your birthright, because it’s in the blood. You look back at your family, and what’s better than to look at history itself?

You’re from London, history isn’t something you lack. You look at your parents loveless marriage, your insane grandfather who taught his daughters to be heartless, and your great-grandfather...

The one who walked through the same corridors as you, and chose to repress everything he was until he turned into his own worst nightmare.

The Campbell family is a pretty well-off household from London, the kind of people who have more money than sense. Dex and Dennis Campbell, brothers who inherited the money and didn’t spare efforts to keep the family name. While Dex was a long-running member of parliament with a slim-to-none chance of losing an election, Dennis was a stock broker with a Cambridge degree on Economics and made a lot of money on a daily basis. 

That, alongside the family’s property portfolio and frequent donations accepted from companies to keep Dex’s votes in their favour, has meant that the family would never want for anything. Due to this, Matt’s grown up to be a sheltered and privileged child.

Dennis and Clara, his parents, are still married and have three children 一 the middle child being Matt. He didn’t have to grow up quickly or take charge as the eldest, his only duty was obeying - which he promptly did without questioning.

It’s not that he was passive to a situation, his life was really easy and there was no reason for him to do anything different than what he was told to. That said, you can just assume that he’s really innocent for some things about the real world, like taxes and the way law works.

What you see? That’s exactly what you’re gonna get from him. He’s petty, sometimes really mean and irresponsible, chaotic, loves to make new friends and experiment on different things.

He studied at a posh school near London, alongside his cousin, Burke 一 Dex’s son. The funny thing is: he never even liked chemistry. He just liked to try new things and see how they would react, which was more more cool than the way professors taught things at school. He’s a smart child, too lazy to do things the proper way and probably has ADHD.

All in all, he’s pretty easygoing and his parents are okay with him being queer. Not because they are understandable or supporting, but because this is the smaller of Matt’s issues.

In order to get here, Matt had to confront his parents for the first time. He wanted to be free of them, at least for a while, and the best way to do it was... You guessed, crossing an entire ocean!

Their marriage was falling apart, things at home were awful and he couldn’t stand it anymore. Thus, he took the opportunity to go to America and go to college there. Not that his parents like the situation, no. They remind him of how poor of a choice that is at least once a day.

Now, Matt is living his dreams of freedom and trying new things. He’s not completely oblivious stuff teenagers and young adults do, so it’s not like he’s seeing things for the first time.

For now, his goal is to survive the year and figure out what the fuck he’s doing before graduation.​
