I know it’s not hard to point out reactionaries hypocrisy when it comes to like safe spaces or hug boxes or whatever but genuinely how much of an echo chamber do you have to exist in for you to think this is a reasonable thing to say

For the second time this year, a Florida appellate court has ruled against environmentalists fighting to enact a widely supported local clean water measure.
The Fifth District Court of Appeal ruled Thursday that although 83% of voters in Titusville approved a 2022 initiative establishing the right to clean water, the city in Brevard County couldn’t enact it because of a 2020 state law preventing local government from giving rights to bodies of water, plants, and animals.
The City of Titusville had appealed a lower court’s ruling siding with Speak Up Titusville, the group behind the local ballot measure. The three-judge appellate panel reversed the lower court’s order to codify the clean water amendment allowing residents to sue, on behalf of the “Waters of Titusville,” any entities that violate the measure.
“Although it is an admirable goal, we know of no provision that is authorized in either general law or specifically granted in the State Constitution, nor has one been provided by Speak Up, which specifically provides a citizen the right to have a body of water that ‘flows, exists in its natural form, is free of pollution, and which maintains a healthy ecosystem,'” the judges wrote.
Republican Sen. Blaise Ingoglia spearheaded the preemption when he was a member of the Florida House in 2020. Another appellate court cited that preemptive clause in Florida law to block an Orange County clean water measure in January.
Throughout the opinion, the judges appeared sympathetic to the environmentalists’ cause and placed the reasoning for the decision entirely on the Republican-led Legislature’s actions.
“We recognize the overwhelming support of this charter amendment by the residents of the City of Titusville and the admirable policies of the amendment,” the judges wrote. “However, the Legislature in drafting section 403.412(9)(a) of the Environmental Protection Act has not authorized the types of rights provided for in the charter amendment. As such, an appellate court has no power to change or alter what the Legislature mandated.”

It’s wild to me to see transvestigator conspiracy theories online that could be so easily explained by natural human variation. That woman has a deep voice? Yeah, sometimes they do. A woman has broad shoulders?? Maybe she plays rugby or hits the gym a fuckton. There’s a “bulge” in her tight pants?? Maybe her vulva is just fat. All the “markers” of trans woman that transvestigators use to harass any woman aren’t even things unique to trans women.

One of the things I loved about The Wild Robot from a writing/world-building perspective was that it was clearly set in a post-apocalyptic world, but the details were very vague, and you don't even know until about an hour in:
Tumblr media
"Beautiful shot," you think, and then it hits you that the whales are swimming over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Abandoned, crumbling satellites and a sunken city. And then when we do see the human city, they freak out at the sight of geese:
Tumblr media
Animal-derived plague? Global warming? We don't know. We only know that something has happened. But like the general theme, whatever bad has occurred, the natural world is thriving. An unexpected positive from a history of tragedy.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that in 2024, here in the age of female leads who almost HAVE to be girlboss/girl power/"you hit me, I'll hit back tenfold", we got a heroine like Roz???
Tumblr media
Relentlessly kind, refusing to harm, even taking up the mantle of motherhood - which in this day and age so many dismiss as some "lesser" calling. But she is still FAR from weak. It just happens to be that her strength shows itself in kindness and selflessness, not revenge or an epic battle where she takes down the big, bad baddie on her own. "Oh but that's just her programming." Perhaps. But of all the programming she does override in the story, she doesn't let go of that. Even though she's told over and over again that it's not the way the world works.
And yet she's not a flawless hero of the people either! She says things she shouldn't; sometimes she says the WORST thing at the WORST time; her overprotectiveness of Brightbill caused problems down the line; and as much help as she gave, she still needed it herself. And though it was accidental, she still caused murder. That too.
Tumblr media
But bruh......are you really going to look at this shot and tell me this is a weak character?
In the state of the world today, it's just a fresh breath of air to show a heroine that gives so much of herself to help others, even those who didn't give her a reason to. That there truly is strength in even the smallest act of kindness.

I...tried to make a meme and got carried away and made A Thing that is like partially unfinished because i spent like 3 hours on it and then got tired.
I think this is mostly scientifically accurate but truth be told, there seems to be relatively little research on succession in regards to lawns specifically (as opposed to like, pastures). I am not exaggerating how bad they are for biodiversity though—recent research has referred to them as "ecological deserts."
Feel free to repost, no need for credit

Being an autistic adult is so stressful. Just got an hour long call with my boss about how all communication issues are my fault, because my face and tone. I offered that maybe working here 7 years means that people understand I'm not being an asshole when I say "oh I thought that was obvious". Or that my neutral face reads as mad to them. Or that a bunch of people jumping in and yelling questions when I am 1 sentence into the explanation kinda stalls my brain out. So I can't answer and get stuck on the first question, because I'm not even sure they heard me at this point. Her response was to get mad that I pointed out that other people felt I was not being heard, that it's not just me who says this happens to me a lot, and that there is a pattern that the female team lead has all these double standards that never get brought up to people. Also that I might be making assumptions, but so are they.
Accommodations for autistic adults can be such a joke.

I love going viral on tumblr.com. It’s like if you stood in a field and said some of the stupidest shit a human being is capable of and then like fifty thousand crows attacked you
