Spooky Sweetober prompts 5-8!
I spent sooo long getting that gothic window proportionate & symmetrical... but then, so did actual gothic architects.

A teeny tiny embroidered bead* lizard for my jacket!
*no actual beads were used but I figure if I can crochet a bead lizard I can embroider one

Current
Upon the hill
there is a tree
that bears among
its verdant leaves
instead of fruits
a pleasant breeze.
.
Oft I sitÂ
against its lee
beneath its russ’ling
emerald eaves
to take a breath
and my ease.
.
The clouds pass by
my mind lifts free
and from my perch
my eye perceives
the line where skies
divide from seas.
.
A small boat sits
along the quay
and though the water
swells and heaves
its sails mean naught
without a breeze.

Night Vision
And so we gather at the midnight hour
to glimpse a world unlike the one we know
that only once a year is seen to flow’r
in shades of silver cast in golden glow.
.
Is this the realm that birthed the moon and sun?
Is starlight strung like spiderwebs bedewed
with crystal ether on its silk, finespun
by what does dwell beyond and eyes elude?
.
Or yet is it the place we will reside
when comes the end of our time here and now?
If so, do they look from the other side
and hope the answer comes to them somehow?
.
But hark! I now can see the tinge of dawn
and with its kiss this wonderous sight is gone.

The Last Battle
And lo! the dragon rears its head
And lo! the knight his lance
for both it is the fateful fight
a last & desperate chance
and when the dust is finally clear
as the sun rescinds its light
we find the two both lying here
side by side and dead

Spring Morning & Summer Evening
Skies washed clean by rain
Breezes rustle daffodils
The earth awakened
.
Twilight deep and blue
Full moon crests over the trees
A bat makes its flight

Ephemeral I & II
i.
little frog
sing your song
calling out
at dusk and dawn
little frog
in the soft spring rain
in the vernal pools
cycles start again
ii.
salamander
under logs
in the streams
and in the bogs
when the pools form
in the spring
new beginnings
do they bring

Argo Navis
Shall we go and touch the stars, my friend?
Shall see what dreams they hide?
Shall we venture past the sky
and go where man has never been?
Shall we go and touch the stars, my friend?
.
To puncture through that azure tide
and sally forth all starry-eyed,
we go to seek, see, comprehend
Shall we go and touch the stars, my friend?
.
We do it for our people’s pride
we do it for the rocket ride
and to feel the rush as we ascend
Shall we go and touch the stars, my friend?
.
So will you take the step untried:
to see the yearning satisfied,
to the universe your hand extend?
Shall we go and touch the stars, my friend?

Treasured
they demanded all her treasures
they demanded all she had
“give up all that you have guarded!
give us all that makes you glad!”
and weren’t they disappoint
with what she pulled out of her bag?
.
but what could be better
than a bright bluejay feather
and a couple of smooth river stones?
and what brings more joy
than a childhood toy
and a very enlightening tome?

April Sunday
curled up on the couch
a soft blanket
a homemade bowl
of beef stew
some chocolate cake
all at the end
of a cold rainy day

Would you gaze upon the unicorn
as she grazes in her glen
and be satisfied?
.
Would you hunt her in the misty morn
to places beyond your ken
just to sate your pride?
.
Would you catch her like a thing lowborn
never to be wild again?
 Is it worth the ride?Â

There was a man with dreams in his head
that played on repeat both awake & in bed
he made toys & machines
and most wonderous things
in all colors from yellow to cerulean to red
