That time that John saved Christmas (this marks the second time), by absorbing the power of Bishop Agios Nickolaus, who we now call Santa Claus. This was in lieu of a blood mage Mako, who prophesied that our 'Laughing Magician' would bring the end of the world. Wanting to add an edge to his powers, Constantine borrowed the power of Christmas itself (thanks to Santa Claus) to even the odds and trap Mako in his own soul-binding hold.

Some visual comparisons of Sting, best known for being the front man of the band The Police, and John Constantine. Alan Moore, one of the original creators of Constantine is quoted in a November 1993 Wizard magazine article saying,

“…One of those early notes was [Steve Bissette and John Totleben] wanted to do a character that looked like Sting. I think DC is terrified that Sting will sue them, although Sting has seen the character and commented in Rolling Stone that he thought it was great. He was very flattered to have a comic character who looked like him, but DC gets nervous about these things.”

*I tried this..thats how I came up with the idea for this drawing.. it works ok.. but a candle in a pickle jar covered with some tin foil works much better.... poor mans censer..

**One of my Hellblazer headcanons is that in rituals that require incense, John usually just uses cigarettes as a substitute... You know.. Smelly pricy stuff that creates smoke when burned...Ghost n demons wont even know the difference... Its the vague similarity and thought that counts.
