Magical Oil Recipes - Buffs and Blessings Edition
Tumblr media
For anyone looking to brew up a potion for the purposes of augmentation or blessing, here are some recipes I’ve created that you might find useful.
To prepare them, blend the ingredients in such proportions as feels correct for your purposes (or as supplies allow). Use dried material except where indicated. Place a few spoonfuls in a mason jar with a screwtop lid and fill the jar with a bland oil of your choice. (Vegetable oil of the sort you would buy for cooking works fine.) Screw the lid on tightly and shake well to combine, then leave the jar in a dark dry place for 2-4 weeks to steep.
Once steeped, prepare a clean storage bottle (also with a secure lid) and label with the type of oil and the bottling date. Strain the oil through paper towels or cheesecloth to remove the plant material, then bottle immediately. Store away from sunlight and heat for up to one year. Use for spellwork as you see fit.
(Please note that NONE of these potions are meant to be taken internally by any means. Observe all proper safety measures related to glass, fire, and potentially harmful plants as necessary during preparation.)
*- Ingredient is potentially harmful if inhaled or ingested. **- Ingredient should not be used or handled if you are pregnant or nursing.
All-Purpose Blessing Oil For blessing, purification, and consecration.

☀️Deities☀️
I see so many people criticizing others over their relationships, or lack thereof, with their deities, so here are some reminders:
Not having deities is okay.
Having just a devotional relationship with your deities is okay.
Having a working relationship with your deities is okay.
Playing games with your deities is okay.
Harmless jokes with your deities are okay.
Doing fun things with your deities is okay.
Doing devotional offerings for your deities is okay.
Giving physical offerings to your deities is okay.
Not being able to do certain offerings for deities is okay.
Having an altar for your deities is okay, no matter the size.
Not having an altar for your deities is okay.
Laughing with your deities is okay.
Crying with your deities is okay.
Having genuine conversations with your deities is okay.
Being unable to hear/see deities is okay.
Being able to hear/see deities is okay.
Not being able to communicate through divination is okay.
Using divination as a key element in communication is okay.
Not calling on deities during spellwork is okay.
Asking deities to help during spellwork is okay.
Asking deities for help in general is okay.
This is your relationship with your deities in your practice. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. 🫶
It's 2am, please forgive me if there are any mistakes!

Pine - The Mundane and Magical 101
Tumblr media
Growing up on my edge of the west coast, Pine trees have always been abundant. Specifically the Western White Pine for example.
This plant spirit is one I work with generally in the winter as this is where I personally feel it’s energy is stronger. It's a wonderful plant to work with and has been used by indigenous cultures to this land for healing. To venerate and honour this land I work with Pine.
Scientific Name: Pinus
Family: Pinaceae
Parts used: For species of Pine it varies
Planet: Mars
Element: Air
CAUTIONS: It is important to know not all species of Pine are edible. Also please note that if you have pets be cautious with Pine as it can cause irritation to the mouth and gastrointestinal issues. Which can lead to serious complications if ingested. Keep any pine needles and oils out of reach.
ALWAYS check with your local herbalist and doctor before consuming any medicinal medicine as they will be able to direct you on proper dosages. Some medications can also interact and so can some conditions with certain herbs.
Do NOT consume if pregnant and Pine may irritate the gut by creating heartburn.
IMPORTANT: Some Pine trees look very alike to other toxic plants so source responsibility and safely.
Uses in Herbalism and healing:
Internally, pine is a traditional remedy for coughs, colds, allergies, and urinary tract and sinus infections.
Topically, pine is used for infections and to lessen joint inflammation in arthritic conditions.
Uses in Magic:
Pine's correspondences are purification, protection, prosperity, healing, fertility and strength.
Pine needles scattered on the floor is said to drive away evil
When burned it can purify negativity
Needles can be burned for reversal spells or back to sender spells
Money magic
Can be used in oils, teas, incense, washes, etc. Get creative!
Makes a great purifying natural cleaner mixed with vinegar
Branches of pine above the bed is said to keep sickness away
In Japan Pine trees are venerated as sacred. Symbolizing longevity. Some place Pine above the front door to ensure lasting joy within, for the leaves are evergreen.
Recipes:
Herbal Salve for Inflammation - Makes 5 ounces
What you need
1 oz. beeswax (use carnauba wax for a vegan salve)
4 oz. Pine Pitch infused oil in Olive Oil - See my Infused Oils post to learn more
Directions
Wrap beeswax bar in an old towel. On a sturdy surface, use a hammer to break bar up into small chunks.
Place beeswax in a double boiler and gently warm over low heat until the beeswax melts.
Add herbal oils and stir over low heat until well-mixed.
Remove from heat
Quickly pour warm mixture into prepared heat safe tin(s) or cosmetic glass jar(s)
Store in a cool location for 1 to 3 years.
Sources and extra reading material:
Please remember while I provide sources, some content is my own UPG from working for years intuitively with this herbal ally. What you do not see from my sources assume it is my UPG and take what information you will. Always cross reference and research yourself. All medical knowledge will be sourced.

Hello. Do you think if you work with sigils, do they need to be checked by diagnostics for compatibility with each other?
That's a great question! And I dunno because I don't work with sigils.
By compatibility with each other, do you mean that all sigils have to be copacetic with every other sigil you make? Because that doesn't sound quite right.

Witchy Self-Care
*pulls out draft from over a year ago* ENJOY
Hi! this is a list of witchy self-care things you can do. Most of these are pretty basic on account that i wrote this ages ago but they definitely still work. Anyways, I hope these help :)
Do the dishes and dedicate it to your house spirit (if you have one) or a deity (if you're religious)
sweep/mop your floor in the shape of sigils
add rosemary (or rosemary water/essential oils) to the water you mop with to set an intention of cleansing
taking ritual a bath/shower
cleansing your energy. it's so basic but I forget more than i'd like to admit
dedicating time to yourself. it's just as important as dedicating time to your deities/other spirits
light shadow work or going to therapy. bettering your mental health also betters your spiritual.
go outside and ground yourself
take a nap (less witchy, more, I love naps. rest is important)
work out/stretch and dedicate it to an entity
do some gratitude
take 5 minutes to just sit and turn off your devices. you can use this time for anything, just take a second to get off screens and connect with the world around you
meditate. if you can't sit still long enough to meditate, just focus on taking 3 deep breathes
when you wash your face, draw sigils on your face with the cleanser and moisturiser
^do the same as above but with your body wash and when you wash your hair
say some affirmations/manifestations while brushing your teeth
just check in with yourself and see how you're feeling spiritually, psychically and emotionally. sometimes we don't actually know how we're feeling until we sit down and actually ask ourselves.
If anyone has any more to add please comment. I'll add them to the list (with credit of course)

Ok, so you want to practice every day?
You know what, valid. So do I. I'm going to make this as short as I can because we have a lot to get through.
You don't have to practice every day to be a "good," valid, powerful, or whatever-you-want witch.
Generic "ground and center every morning, then enchant your tea" practice routines aren't going to be helpful for 90% of us out here. (yes, I wrote similar in the past!)
"Practice" does not equal repeating exercises and casting spells.
When witches say "in my practice," IMO they are using this word interchangeably with "in my path," or "when I actively engage in my path."
Eschew the idea that your "daily practice" is supposed to be a workout routine that is training you for something better.
Embrace the idea that we're actually talking about "practicing daily," aka "engaging with my path on a daily basis." You aren't training for the next thing - you're at the thing already :)
Your daily practice needs to start with what you want out of your faith and practice.
Not everyone wants to be an energy worker.
Not everyone wants to venerate nature.
Not everyone wants to be a spirit-worker.
Not everyone wants to learn herbalism or kitchen witchery
Brainstorm your idealized path. I mean envision yourself in the cutest little cottagecore village, living your total fantasy witch life. What are you doing?
Do you want to...
Be a diviner?
Learn sorcery?
Be a licensed herbalist?
Talk to spirits and make friends with the forest and the flowers?
Help and heal the villagers?
Be a spiritual warrior who battles with evil spirits and aberrations?
Be a world-walker, who goes to unseen realms?
Learn to slip into new skins?
(The list goes on)
Also ask yourself what you don't want. Gods freak you out? Ok, don't interact with them. You want to do pure energy work with very little ritual ingredients? Beautiful. Stand your ground, flip off people who tell you "but witches worship pagan gods and burn candles to their familiars 🥺"
Find ways to start including what is the most important to you in your daily life.
It might be helpful to make a list of the 1-3 things you really want to focus on right now. If it helps, choose a time frame of weeks to try out these practices and see if you like them.
But before you get too far into that:
Tumblr media
[Picture ID: A tweet from @rmccarthyjames which reads, "all of my plans for the future involve me waking up tomorrow with a sudden sense of discipline and adherence to routine that i have never displayed even once in my life"]
This, right here, is what we want to avoid.
Please, for the love of God, do not sit down and say, "okay, I'm going to wake up 30 minutes early and do a 15 minute meditation each morning, then 5-10 minutes of energy exercises. Then, I'm going to ground and center (energy work goals). Then during breakfast I'll enchant my food and read about herbalism while I eat (kitchen witch goals). Then, in the evening ---"
I can pretty much guarantee you that almost any activity you have access to right now will be actively draining.
Magical techniques, exercises, and spellwork take energy - just like working out at the gym.
You can work out at the gym and feel energized for the next couple of hours, but then become fatigued in the evening/next day.
You can work out at the gym every day for 5 days, but then suddenly you feel too weak or sore to even get out of bed the next day.
Meditation, grounding, and centering can restore metaphysical energy to your body, and increase your access to it. But it's like eating a protein bar after a workout - you still have to rest and recover.
So if you've tried to stick to "do X, Y, Z" activities every day and failed, ask yourself if you were actually engaging in a strenuous magical workout routine that wore you into the ground.
Instead of choosing "X activity for Y minutes at Z time every day, consider this:
One of the most available ways you can engage in your path is by dwelling within your magical and spiritual worldviews.
Are you an animist? Look for a plant. Think about how it's got a soul. You just engaged with your path :)
Are you interested in energy work? Look for a conversation between two people. Consider the energy flow between them. You just engaged with your path :)
Are you into Traditional Witchcraft? Watch a TV show. Ask yourself how you'd solve a problem on the screen (not necessarily using magic to solve it, just in general). Then, ask yourself how your hag, fetch-beast, or familiar (hypothetical or otherwise) would solve it. You just engaged with your path :)
Are you into religious magic? Look around you. Feel the vibes, feel your feelings, feel your mood. What would your god(s) have to say about it? You just engaged with your path :)
Do you play a lot of video games? Overlay your beliefs onto the game and use events, interactions, and developments as an opportunity to consider your own beliefs (or, with Minecraft, build your own astral temples).
The more you dwell within your magical and spiritual worldviews, the more you "phase in" to the reality that you're a witch and magic is within you and around you.
Over time, constantly engaging with your path in these small ways - through choosing to see the world through the lens of your practice - makes choosing and employing "techniques," exercises, and spells soooo much more relevant and practical.
With that tangent is out of the way, practical tips for how to interact with your path on a daily basis:
Avoid "daily" activities with a high barrier to entry. If you make all these rules and regulations for your own practice, like you have to make a journal entry for every spell and magical activity, and it has to include the moon phase and planetary hour, you're going to be engaging probably a lot less than you think you will.
Choose activities which directly help and support your day to day life.
Tough work environment? Try picking up energy shielding or amulet-making.
Art commissions down? Try learning prosperity or money magic.
Feeling confused or directionless? Experiment with forms of divination.
Lonely? Learn to talk to spirits.
You do not need to create barriers to these things. You DO NOT need to meditate, ground, or center before you make an energy shield. You can just make one right now, actually.
You don't need to learn protection and warding before you practice talking to the nature spirits around you, or bringing protective presences into your sphere.
You don't need to copy down a two-page spell and then write grimoire entries for each correspondence before you can do effective spells and charms.
One of the easiest ways to perform casual, daily magic is to extend regular daily actions into the spirit world.
(For me, the "spirit world" is where all magic happens. Maybe you might call it the etheric, or the energy-double of the world).
Shower to clean yourself - just expend energy to extend the cleaning to your spiritual bodies.
Eat food to gain energy - just expend energy to also feed your spiritual bodies.
Exhale to send old breath away - and at the same time, send away an unwanted thought, energy, or presence.
("Expend energy" can be done in many ways; most often we say "visualization" but you can also dedicate your power to the task through words of intent ["I apply my power to nourish myself thrice over"], mindfulness [staying present in the moment and maintaining focus on your spiritual goal], physical gestures [stirring food clockwise with the knowledge that you are stirring power into it], etc.)
So you've found some free time. What do you want to do with it?
Maybe you started energy shielding earlier this week, and now you're feeling worn out and just want to take a day off.
Hot take: "Hey, I'm too tired to do this magical thing, I'm going to choose something else instead" is engaging with your path :) You didn't forget or ignore your path. You checked in with your magical self, took stock of the situation, and choose the activity of rest.
Be flexible!
I personally say, give all techniques and methods a chance. I myself am not a person where I start out good at things. I'm one of the people where I start out bad at things and get a little better each time I practice.
But if a technique is not vibing with you, or if new concerns arise in your life, there's no need to dedicate yourself to doing something you don't like and don't need for the sake of reaching an arbitrary goal of completion.
Remember, it's not a daily workout until you're good enough to improve your life.
It's improving your life, right now, and each time you do it you get a lil better at it :)
Your path is not subject to object impermanence*.
(*The following is primarily poetic; take it or leave it as you please)
You are what you are and wherever you stand, there your path is around you. To try and curse your path into a quasi-existence where it only appears when you're making energy balls is a terrible fate for a path to be bound to.
It's your friend. It wants to be with you. It doesn't want to be told it's invisible and un-present unless you're staring it in the eye.
A great deal of my early path was taking huge breaks from magical practice - I mean, for months and months at a time. It's called the Crooked Path, not the Straightforward Linear Path Where Expected Things Occur.
Sure, if you're done with witchcraft for a while (or forever), set it aside. Tell your path it's done, closed down, and you'll be back when you're back.
But while you're in, you're walking it. Is your path one where you accidentally forget witchcraft exists and take breaks for months at a time without meaning to? So that's your path. It matches you step for step, no matter where you go.
It doesn't go hungry - you eat and you sleep, and it eats and rests with you. It doesn't feel rejected - it's right there with you. When you touch the doorknob, your path reaches through and holds your hand. When you write a school exam, it traces the pencil lead from the other side. It doesn't matter if you know it or see it - it's there, patient and waiting, watching you with love. All you need to do is fail to believe that your path is gone when you stop paying attention to it.

Magic has no gender.
Women are not “more magical”, men are not “devoid of magic”. In many cultures of the world, men have made most of the input into the development of magical craft. You don’t need to be a cisgender woman to do magic or call yourself a witch; witch is a gender neutral term.
Magic is a craft and a skill, not a chromosome - not to mention that people who believe in bioessentialism in magic have a very shallow understanding of genetics.

Worshipping the gods doesn't have to be super serious devotion level worship all the time. I see some people worry about having "too many deities", but you don't have to have a close relationship with a deity to work with them or pray to them. In fact, it was more common in ancient times to NOT be devoted to any specific deity at all if you weren't some kind of religious figure, like a priest or priestess. Most of the time, there were certain deities that a person would favor, but their worship was not the in-depth type of devotion we see on witchblr a lot. In fact, ancient people sometimes went to a temple for a specific god once in their whole life to pray for something very specific and give offerings and then never needed that specific deity ever again. That's the very nature of these large pantheons. You will have favorites, but even then, you don't NEED to be devoted to them to ask for their help or pray to them.
I say this as mostly a Greco-Roman polytheist, but I'm sure it applies to other large pantheons as well. And, as always, certain gods may be an exception to the rule and require more, both historically and UPG-wise. But it is still a good general rule of thumb. There is no pressure to find a patron or become a devotee of any deity, unless you truly desire to do so.

Offerings for Lucifer
Tumblr media
Fruit and anything made of fruit - especially apples, pomegranates or whatever your culture pictures as The Fruit. Strawberries for Venusian (Morningstar) associations, citrus for Solar. Cider, wine, juice, kompot, fruit teas. Cakes and other sweets made with fruit.
Strong spirits - often associated with the Devil.
Roses - Venusian. You can also give him rose water, alone or mixed with vodka.
Dandelions - for their chaotic, wild, untamed, unconquerable spirit.
Any plants associated with the Devil in your culture. Research your local lore and especially folk names to find them. Check their biological properties too - many of them can be poisonous so be careful.
Snake imagery - pictures, figurines, photos, any kind of arts and crafts. You can even make something yourself. As well imagery of goats and other animals associated with him.
Star imagery - especially Morningstar and falling stars.
Shed antlers - for Lucifer in his horned Devil of The Forest aspect.
Sunflower seeds - Solar.
Perfume or oils, especially of scents associated with him (apples etc.)
Your art of any kind dedicated to him.
Picrews of them - they enjoy it in my experience.
Queer symbols - Lucifer is a nonbinary shapeshifter.
Cakes, cookies and chocolate - just a delicious UPG.
(Made for Lucifer the Devil, offerings for the Roman Lucifer may vary.)
