Karma Exists
I had a moment of realisation earlier in the week that I’d like to share with you. I am a firm believer in karma. Our actions, good or bad, have a knock on effect that can change other people’s behaviour.Well over a decade ago I bought a DVD of the film “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” from HMV in Norwich. It’s a live performance by David Bowie. This was in the days before I used the internet to buy things and I travelled all the way to Norwich to get it. When I got it home, it was faulty and I couldn’t watch it. I rang the store and told them the problem and since I had to travel back to Norwich to replace it, I asked if they would reserve me another copy of it.
The next day, having travelled 45 minutes into Great Yarmouth and then another 30 minute into Norwich I went into HMV to return my DVD. They didn’t have a replacement in stock. The man who answered the phone reserved the wrong DVD. I asked for my money back and left very disappointed. I went into Virgin Megastore which was nearby and also sold DVDs etc. I find “Ziggy Stardust” and take it up to the till. The man behind the counter asked me if I’d seen David Bowie’s “Glass Spiders Tour” DVD. He is a fan of David Bowie.
At this point he puts it through the till and it’s more expensive than HMV and I do not have enough money. I was gutted. That was all the money I had on me. At this point the man does something that has stuck with me my entire life. He uses his staff discount to reduce it so I can by it. Because I was a Bowie fan and because he was a nice person. It has always stuck with me and having since gone into retail I offer the best customer service I can. In fact, since I had this realisation I no longer see my career in retail as a bad thing. In fact, it’s give me well over a decade to spread good karma and a lot of it is down to the man in Virgin Megastore. He’ll never know the impact he’s had on my life or the people his actions have caused me to be nice to.

New direction
I have been doing “Man in a Room” for a few years now and I now feel as though it’s time I expand it a little bit. I am not going to start producing it to within an inch of it's life. There are certain things that I would like to explore and that means that I am going to need to start to plan things.
I am going to start blogging some behind the scenes things too. I said that my audio series is the only creative outlet I have and that I actively snub social networks and all other forms of the internet.
The main thing I want to do is expand the website and the first thing I'm going to do is the website. Why not huh?
