Interesting take, with which I generally agree. Yet still I see s2 Jinx preparing an ambush for Vi with a cold blood and a lot of planning, and with an intention to kill her. And maybe this was a reason she failed, usually when voices in her head took over she went feral and was unpredictable, but this time her fighting with Vi looked calculated thus predictable.
Meanwhile in the "divorce" scene I see Caitlyn desperately trying to calm herself down and eventually being not able to do so. Imo she didn't take her time to strike Vi because she was calculating her next move, she tried to calm herself down before exploding the same way she did in arcade and failed. She exploded in the violent way because she didn't know how to deal with her anger otherwise, especially that Vi stopped her from walking away.
I think we are used to see Jinx doing violent things so her violent actions don't bother us even if they are aimed at Vi. Caitlyn on the other hand was a very kind character so far and seeing her turning cold and violent - even under understandable circumstances - is hard, especially when Vi is targeted. But also, because of this radical turn in her character, so far her arc seems to be the most interesting this season.
I am really curious how Caitlyn's dark arc and Jinx's redemption arc will unfold and if they are connected as I expect them to. Because after all Cait as we see her now is a monster Jinx created.
You forgive Jinx but not Caitlyn? Here’s why.
If we start from the idea that Jinx and Caitlyn are very similar and that the show increasingly emphasizes this; if we assume they both have traumas and reasons to be angry and violent; if we consider that their traumas are equally significant—because all trauma is equivalent when experiences differ—a trauma is still a trauma.
So why do we forgive Jinx but not Caitlyn? (Or at least, why do people seem to hate Caitlyn more than Jinx for her actions?) Caitlyn hasn’t done anything comparable to Jinx, who has many deaths on her conscience. Is it because she might have sacrificed a child? No, she wouldn’t have missed the shot—you know it, I know it, and so does she. Blaming her for a shot she didn’t take but would have succeeded at isn’t a valid reason.
Jinx isn’t more murderous, nor is she less so than Caitlyn. She’s not stronger...
Here’s a little screenshot of Caitlyn getting the upper hand on Sevika. #SeviCait? 😆 Caitlyn is seriously badass—let’s not forget that.
She’s not stronger... or more loyal, fairer, or smarter…—she’s just more unstable.
So yes, that’s why so many people struggle to forgive Caitlyn’s actions compared to Jinx’s; it feels like Caitlyn does things with full awareness. When she strikes Vi, she’s fully present in the moment, taking her time to think before delivering the blow.
Jinx, on the other hand, hits Vi much harder and more than once. But Caitlyn’s blow hurts more because it comes not just from the heart, but from the head as well.
Do I blame her? No, of course not—she’s my favorite character. And I dare say I love her even more now.
She’ll learn to handle frustration, she’ll keep thinking things through, and she’ll realize she’s being manipulated. She’ll make the right choices, because that’s who she is.

Congratulations to Avatrice!
And the winner of the AO3 Top 100 Femslash Ships Tournament: Year 2 is... BEATRICE/AVA!!!
Congratulations to the Avatrice warriors! You guys consistently beat heavy hitters, including being part of the biggest poll this year, the semi-final showdown with Blake/Yang. And unlike with last years winners, you're pretty much guaranteed to still be in the tournament next year which will be very interesting. Condolenscenes to Harlivy for losing in the finals for the second year in a row. Who knows, maybe third time is the charm.
I'm considering doing a losers bracket again this year (a smaller tournament with the ships who were knocked out round 1). My thesis is due in a week so if I do it likely won't be until November, so watch this space to see if I end up doing it!
