meet zhao fei! she’s a top student in law at the local university and a good friend of crane, dage, and meihua! crane in fact likes her very much. despite working hard on her studies, fei still finds time to sing with her friends in a band, and her dream is actually to become a world famous band. she particularly likes singing mandopop, jpop, kpop, and rock. she also jams with crane, who supports her as a dj or with a rap verse. she is the biggest fan of a certain celebrity. at the same time, she deals a lot with anxiety and stage fright, and she’s still more of a loner except for her close friends. her shirt says, “come with me.”

Rei lived with her non-witch parents in a quaint home in a small town, where the wind gently blew over the long grass and where the sky was incredibly blue. The first time she ever saw magic with her own eyes was when she saw a passing witch discreetly grow flowers while she was walking. She burst out in joy, asking, “How did you do that?!” 

Her outburst surprised the witch, but seeing that it was just a 6 year old girl, the witch answered that she was doing magic. Rei asked the witch to show her more, so the witch showed off some more tricks, such as creating butterflies and producing light. 

Rei surprised the witch by being able to bend the light herself. And then the witch noticed Rei’s birthmark, and she began asking Rei if she had ever been able to do things that other people could not. Rei couldn’t think of any examples off the top of her head, but they continued to practice magic together for the rest of the afternoon. 

Eventually, Rei had to run home for dinner, so she waved goodbye and ran off as the witch watched. They spent the next month practicing magic together, until the witch had to leave to do something. They haven’t met since, but the experience has inspired Rei to keep studying magic on her own.

Rei continued with her other errands that day, but when she returned home and began to change into more comfortable clothes, she noticed a door in her closet where there had never been a door before. It looked just like any other door in her house. She curiously opened it and stepped through, and it led to a staircase in a brightly lit, cavern-like room. As Rei walked down the staircase, she looked all around her - there were other staircases leading to more doors all over the place, criss-crossing each other and even some appearing upside down. It defied physics. Finally, Rei reached the bottom of the staircase, and there was none other than the ice witch waiting for her.

Reaching out her right hand, the witch said, “Welcome, young one. I have heard of you from a friend. How would you like to learn magic with me?”

Rei was stunned, but accepted without a second thought. And so she trained under the ice witch, learning the basics of magic as well as experimenting with specific forms of magic. She found herself drawn to dreams and the messages that they could give you, as well as the power of the unconscious, and therefore unrestrained, imagination. She improved by leaps and bounds under the tutelage of the ice witch.

One day, a dream came to Rei where a shadowy creature seemed to call out to her. As soon as she awoke, she grabbed the ingredients for summoning a familiar. It took her multiple tries, but it was as if she were driven by some outside force and knowledge to bring this creature to life, and she finally succeeded. It appeared only as a black blob, but it awoke and began shifting into other shapes, even mimicking Rei’s appearance. She nicknamed it Creachure, and Creachure began accompanying her in her studies as it too began to learn about the world.

Finally, at the age of 18, Rei decided to set out on her own adventure. The ice witch watched as she left until the witch could no longer see her in the distance. Rei wanted to find the flower witch again, and to thank her. She and Creachure set out gladly, excited for what the future might bring them.

meet yu shuren, aka dage (”big bro”)! his name means “jade, pure and good person.” he’s crane and meihua’s adoptive big brother, and they always go to him for advice. he was born into a rich family, so he also has the nickname “xiao wang” (”little prince”), and was a talented jockey until an accident that broke both of his legs. since then, after some family issues, he’s been living on the streets and doing random work when he can find it. he ended up getting pretty good at tech work, and he loves playing video games. he also sleeps a lot zzzzzzz

meet agni khatri, the fire witch! she used to be called vesta, and is physically the youngest of the immortal witches at about 13 years old. after becoming immortal, she desperately sought the ingredients for another potion to also give her friends immortality, but she failed and they eventually died. this made her so lost and furious, she went to the battle tower ATLAS and absolutely destroyed her opponents, easily becoming the champion. she’s a little ball of rage and an excellent fighter. now she keeps trying to tell others how to make the immortal potion, but some magic spell prevents her from doing so. she wishes to defy her immortality at all costs. to her, it is the most inhumane of curses.
