A Series of Obsessions...with Series
42K posts
I'm a bisexual Mormon mom of two, married to the sweetest man alive, fan of Marvel heroes but not always their comic writers' decisions, and I work as a freelance writer and have published my own books, including the Scaleshifter series! And if you want to read my fanfiction, I'm on A03 by the same name.

ever think about john boyega, daisy ridley, and oscar isaac’s collective enthusiasm during the force awakens era and then by rise of skywalker they were dead inside and never want to look at star wars again. makes me want to commit a violence.

Something interesting about Aid Station is the specific moments where both Margaret and Klinger are forced into doing something they are uncomfortable with, something beyond their usual duties.
When Hawkeye tells Margaret to start working on a patient before him, she says she’s “never cut a man open before”, and that she’s “not a surgeon.” She’s always very self-assured in her work as a nurse, but she doesn’t feel qualified to do this. And even though it’s out of necessity, I have to love that Hawkeye has enough faith in her capabilities that he asks that of her.
In Klinger’s case, it’s all body-language, a nice little touch I think. Hawkeye has him apply pressure to a bleeding wound, and Klinger is visibly reluctant about it.
Hawkeye, by contrast immediately takes control the moment they get to the Aid Station. He guides Margret and Klinger beyond their comfort zone, not only by directing their actions but by encouraging them, keeping things light and staying calm. So they are supporting him on a practical level, but he’s doing a lot of the emotional heavy-lifting in this episode. Which is, in a sense, a microcosm of the role he frequently ends up in for the entire camp, especially as the series goes on. Of course we know he’s scared, and he has to feel equally uncomfortable with what he’s being asked to do. But there’s patients relying on him, and he’s The Surgeon and even more than that he’s Hawkeye so we don’t see a specific instance of him expressing that in the same way

media literacy would automatically go up 100% if people knew how to consume stories without self-inserting themselves into the characters' shoes. "if i were him..." you're NOT. you may relate to his story, his past, his traits, his quirks, his identity but the moment you start treating the story accepting what you feel/think as what the character feels/thinks, you're misunderstanding the story.

a magical sword can only be pulled from its anvil by a maiden of purest heart. a young knight visits the anvil daily to make the attempt, crushed each time he cannot do the deed, yearning for a sign from the universe that he *is* in truth what he yearns to be. for the world to plop the gift of identity into outstretched arms. but of course, it never does. until one day, he has a chance encounter with a nymph of the lake who was once an ordinary squire, and he learns from her that maidenhood will not be given to him, that he must be brave and choose it for himself. and so the knight changes her name and reintroduces herself to the world and employs the greatest miracles of modern science to become the maiden she had always dreamed of being, and this time, when she revists the sword, she only can't pull it because she's kind of an asshole.

Not to go "if you have ADHD just go for a run" or anything, but I am so serious if you have ADHD you should regularly go outside, no headphones no phone no nothing and just stand and observe for a while until you've had enough. Not until you get bored, until you've had enough. Drink your coffee without watching tiktok. Have a bath without music. Turn down the volume in your headphones. I cannot overstate how much learning to be bored is cruicial with ADHD. Life is not just about pleasure, no matter what your dysregulated dopamine system thinks, and when you teach your brain to be okay with being bored, then boring tasks stop feeling like torture. By letting yourself be bored you are yoinking your system out of the high/low binary and allow for the highs to feel like actual highs and not just anything that isn't low. I am so serious go literally touch grass. Listen to the sounds in your flat. Stimulate your body the way it was designed. It lowers anxiety and makes you feel like you're real and best of all it's completely free

i've been seeing a lot of americans saying - understandably - that they intend to pack up and move abroad. france, the uk, ireland, etc following the election results
i'm surprised by how many people don't understand that moving to another country is practically impossible unless you have a heritage claim (generally parents or grandparents who were born there)
you want to move to the UK? okay, well first you need a UK employer to sponsor you, and it needs to be a job that pays ~£40k/$50k a year at the very least. how you find that employer without first moving here to work in the UK is up to you, but you can't work or look for work while on a tourist visa which is how you will probably be entering the country without a working visa. you can come here to study, but when your study visa expires you'll have to leave. you could marry someone from here, but they'd need to be earning around ~£30k/$40k and you need to have been living together for two years which you also can't do without a visa
the same, with some differences, is true for literally everywhere else on the planet. you can't just move to another country.
my point is this: not only are our societies built around a system where your rights can be taken away if enough people vote against your interests, you also aren't allowed to leave.
unless, of course, you're rich. you can effectively buy a visa for $500k. so rich people can come and go as they please. but you can't.
