ELI5: there are pronounciation rules for reciting the verses from the Quran. The scripture is already in a common language, Arabic, but you can't just 'speak' it like it's part of a mundane conversation. Qalqalah is just one of many rules that 'embellish' the pronounciation of the verses. As mentioned above, it means making an 'echo', or I would describe it as exaggerating certain consonant sounds according to the qalqalah rules.

They could've implied the "yes haha arab!" joke using the names of any of the other rules, but I'm pretty sure "qalqalah" is just the shortest, the straight-to-the-point name
