The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

Hello, I’m biracial with two step parents, and would like to give my two cents about Willow canonically having Harvey as a step dad instead of a biological dad. I’ve just been having a lot of Thoughts™️ about it and have been seeing a lot of arguments for both sides. Since I’m pretty much on the same boat either way, I thought it would be cool to express my opinion too.

I think it’s great that step-parents are now normalized and don’t need a whole story around them joining the family. It’s usually a big process, but it doesn’t need to be a character’s whole arc or anything. A lot of people have step parents. It’s cool to have step parents.

But what I will admit is that I wish it was talked about in the first place. Why did I think she was biracial, despite not having many, if not any, traits from Harvey? Well, to put it simply: I myself took all racial physical traits from only one parent. It really isn’t weird that I turned out like that. I just assumed Willow was the same.

To me, Willow being written as biracial without needing a plot around her being that way was incredibly validating. Much of my life surrounds the fact that I look mostly white, despite being just as asian as I am caucasian. I very much identify as Filipino, but it seems the only way I’m allowed to be mixed is if I have a smaller nose bridge, know Tagalog, have jet black straight hair, or what seems most important to other people: have darker skin. That’s what a lot of people had an issue about with Willow potentially being biracial. She didn’t look enough like one parent, and people called that racist, which was so incredibly weird to me. I thought she represented the good amount of mixed individuals like myself who didn’t have a perfect mix of skin color. I dunno.

I’m just a little bit disappointed that she wasn’t written to be different in that way. When people think of someone being mixed, the first thing that comes to mind is someone who is perfectly split down the middle in terms of physical traits from each of their parents. That just isn’t the case for a lot of people, like me.

All in all, it kind of sucks that Harvey being Willow’s stepdad wasn’t spoken about. Again, step parent-ing isn’t as dramatic as some people think and therefore don’t necessarily need a story around them, but it would have been nice to know. Headcanons are great, so it’s not like one can’t imagine her being biracial, but it is upsetting to me that it wasn’t confirmed earlier on.

I love Willow no matter what though, and I’m glad she has a dad who stepped up 🫶
