So, Penelope technically isn't supposed to know magic. She's a farm girl turned medic because someone (her future husband) dropped his magic textbook and she illegally taught herself magic. She primarily focused on healing magic because it seemed most useful to her and it would arouse the least suspicions. Her proficiency earned her an apprenticeship at Weissdorn, where she met Wilbur and the rest is history.

Good news for Delilah: Franklin being a goose is no longer taboo because geese now outrank ducks in the hierarchy (and the Webbinghams are now geese to reflect that)

Bad news for Delilah: Franklin not knowing magic is still a problem and she'd still be pressured to date Lundyn because of his magic proficiency and his higher status as a goose/swan hybrid (and Alroy jokes that Delilah's kids need all the tall genes they can get because they clearly aren't getting any from her)

I've been on hiatus because somehow, even more has changed or is in the process of changing (including the species of several of my OCs and Lore) but I've been thinking about my growing affection for a Laurent/Nate crackship and how interesting that makes things for Blog Stuff.

With Theo being like a brother to Laurent and knowing Theo says homophobic things to prevent rumors about him and Patrick, I could see Laurent thinking Theo thinks less of him for having feelings for Nate (especially since Theo hates Nate) and he'd PANIC if Theo found out somehow (perhaps by walking into Nate breaking Laurent's heart).

Magic Duck Patch Notes— Webcomic Edition:

The birds are more bird-like (wing arms, colored scleras, etc)

Crossfeathers are now swans and Webbinghams are now geese (this also means geese are higher up on the hierarchy); Abberquacks are still Muscovys for now, though I'm playing around with the idea of making Penelope and Wilbur different species of duck?

| More Aurelia Headcanons |

Aurelia LOVES chess. Even though she could theoretically cheat with her magic, she operates purely off of strategy. She's pretty damn good at it too.

Since Aurelia likes to keep her personal stuff private, she writes her diary entries in a made up code only she knows. She won't even share the code with Ebony.

Because of her affinity towards mind magic, Aurelia has an excellent memory. This includes remembering her dreams/nightmares in vivid detail.

Aurelia could technically lucid dream if she wanted to, but that would require effort on her part and using magic while sleeping would negate the replenishment sleep would give her.

Despite knowing it'd be bad for her hyper-empathy, Aurelia is drawn towards "broken" people in the hopes her magic could help them. This is partly why she still plans on marrying Rylund even after he became an ass. (Spoilers: Aurelia did not make Rylund less of an ass.)

Aurelia is more capable than people give her credit for (including herself). She might not be a good fighter (she doesn't like to solve problems with violence), but she's still a very capable magic user.

Aurelia's speciality lies in mental/emotional based magic. Being able to see someone's true feelings, inner thoughts, dreams/nightmares, memories, etc. She's very careful with how she uses that magic though—respecting people's autonomy is important to her (especially when her suitor would prefer if she had no autonomy of her own), so she refuses to violate someone's autonomy with her magic. There are moments where curiosity gets the best of her and she reads someone's thoughts after some interesting drama happens, but she ultimately tries to respect others' privacy too.

The emotion magic is rather draining for her. That, on top of trying to be the perfect suitress for Rylund (who already plans on replacing her with a younger, hotter wife before they're even married), is causing her burnout...but she doesn't feel like she has the right to complain because she has it "good" compared to everyone else. Aurelia feels guilt for even being unhappy when her sister is treated worse than her despite being "better" than her.

Me, after spending HOURS trying to figure out how to categorize the magic and still not being anywhere close to figuring it out: *sobbing*

Alroy thinks Lundyn is handsome, but is too oblivious to know he has a crush or that dating Lundyn is even in the realm of possibility. Instead, he's a diehard "Lundelilah" shipper because "Dee Dee, how could you NOT be head over heels for him? Imagine how cute your kids would be! Plus, you marrying him means Dad won't die..." (He wouldn't try to force anything, but he's firmly on the "just think about it, okay?" side of things.)

Meanwhile, Lundyn may or may not have feelings for Alroy...but he refuses to acknowledge them because he doesn't want to be related to Delilah in any capacity (unless he can mold Delilah into what he wants her to be) and his attraction to Alroy fizzles out the more Alroy ships him with Delilah.

Random Headcanons because why not—

Kathleen would flirt with Odelia in front of the entire student body at least once. She knows it'll spark drama and Odelia is kinda cute, so why the hell not? It probably won't lead to anything, but at least it'll be fun.

Speaking of Kathleen and Odelia, I could see them potentially being friends (assuming the flirting doesn't weird Odelia out too much). Kathleen's magic isn't as interesting as Odelia's, but she can relate to having to rely on other skills to make up for her lack of powerful magic. (I hope Odelia is prepared for Kathleen to try to turn her against the Triumvirate though asdfghjkl)

...Aurelia has thought about courting Theo every now and then. Not like she'd ever go through with it, she has enough competition on that front and she's already arranged to be married, but she feels like Theo is a "safe" option Gods forbid anything goes wrong with Rylund. Sort of how Victoria clung onto the idea of courting Damion except not as messed up. The Crossfeathers have the reputation of using women as baby factories and discarding them when they're no longer useful (Rylund's own father is on his second wife before Rylund even turned 18), so Aurelia is terrified of becoming obsolete (especially since Rylund seems to view her as mainly a means to an end). Aurelia's logic is that since Theo doesn't seem to give a shit, he wouldn't care about other people enough to be unfaithful to her even if the marriage winds up being loveless. She'd never act on those thoughts, but she likes to have that in her back pocket just in case.

Laurent definitely would suspect Theo has a crush on someone, but he's got enough sense to not bring it up. Plus, he'd have complicated feelings about helping Theo with his love life when his own crush (Ysemay) has feelings for Theo. Laurent would consider courting Odelia to "get back" at Theo, but wouldn't fully go through with it for multiple reasons (mainly caring about Theo too much to be that petty and not wanting to get his ass beat by an Abberquack). He'd probably attempt to get close to Odelia and then decide he'd rather just be friends with her. Sylvain thinks she'd make a good daughter-in-law, but wouldn't pressure Laurent or Theo to court her if they don't feel comfortable.

I wonder how different Franklin and Delilah's dynamic would be if they were genderswapped. Would Boy!Delilah be more forward due to gender roles?

I know I said that Franklin/Dedrick could only happen in a universe where Nate never has kids, but I can't help but wonder how differently Dedrick would handle Alroy dragging Franklin on "investigations".

Delilah definitely would have some qualms with throwing hands with her Beloved Big Brother she Vowed to Protect and would feel guilt because Franklin was Alroy's friend first, but I don't see those being obstacles for Dedrick. From what I know, Dedrick couldn't give two shits about Alroy.

Damn it—I completely forgot about the Franklin/Dedrick crackship I hid in one of the tags...and I can totally see it happening.

Franklin can relate to Dedrick's feelings of abandonment (even though he has a loving adoptive family and he swears he doesn't have any lingering trauma) and he's made being a caretaker his personality. He will heal Dedrick's hands, listen to him vent, or even just quietly vibe with him (Franklin is really good at doing that).

I'm not sure how they'd get together though. Franklin isn't so good with the playful flirting, so he can't build chemistry that way. I also feel like Franklin would be too embarrassed to do the secret admirer thing (at least, as blatantly as he would for Delilah) because he's not sure if Dedrick would be receptive to Sappy Stuff. Hell, Franklin would probably be completely oblivious to Dedrick being gay. Franklin just assumes Dedrick is aro/ace. I can't really forsee a situation that would force either one to confess their feelings, but Dedrick does have the advantage of not being put up on a pedestal like Delilah. The chances of Franklin building up courage to confess are higher.

Even though Franklin would like to be a dad, I can see him being okay with not having kids if he's with Dedrick (especially if it is framed as Franklin being able to take care of himself for once after spending a good portion of his childhood helping care for his younger siblings). Franklin can have fun being an uncle...and then have the luxury of going back to his quiet home with Dedrick where he can make himself a priority. Since Franklin doesn't have inferiority complex issues to overcome, I can see a relationship with Dedrick being much chiller than his relationship with Delilah. He'd still protect and take care of Dedrick, of course, but I feel like Franklin wouldn't let himself be consumed by love like he would with Delilah (not like he's completely defined by her, but being "hers" is always going to be part of Who He Is no matter how much he tries not to put her on a pedestal).
