What It Means to Keep Seeing the Same Tarot Card
The position is the key.
If it keeps appearing in the Present, the Environment, the Subconscious, the Hopes, the Fears… it only means the essence of the card is currently alive in your reality.
The Nine of Swords is simply stating that you are battling anxiety, while the Two of Cups is just observing that you are engrossed in love.
If it keeps appearing in positions such as the Advice, the Past, the Goal… it means you are being asked to heed its message.
The Two of Wands urges you to think strategically and warns you against deciding impulsively, while the Seven of Pentacles reminds you to be patient and trust in divine timing.
But if it consistently shows up as the Future or as the Outcome, then it is certainly a prediction.
Death guarantees an upcoming painful or pleasant transformation, while the Ace of Cups promises a new romantic connection.
However, if it appears across different categories, with no discernible majority, it is only picking up on your wishes and desires.
The Empress means you are longing for abundance, while the Four of Cups means you wish your life had more substance.

Visconti di Modrone | 1442 - 1447
This is the oldest-surviving tarot deck in the world, closely followed by its siblings, the Visconti-Sforza (c. 1451) and the Visconti Brambilla (1463). All three were commissioned by the Viscontis, the ruling family of Milan at the time.
The original deck had the same value as that of a house, since each card is lavishly adorned with gold and silver.
Also called the Cary-Yale Visconti, it has 89 cards through the addition of the theological virtues (Hope, Faith and Charity) as well as of female knights and pages.

The Different Pains in Tarot
Death, The Tower & The Devil have a bad rep. But they are not the ones you should truly dread.
Three of Swords: Heartbreak & Sorrow
This pain screams. And when it is not screaming, it is weeping. It involves separation, rejection, or discovering a truth that crushes your soul.
Seven of Swords: Betrayal & Deception
This pain is speechless. Realization and denial are battling, and you feel helpless. It involves trickery, theft, a knife in back from a person you love.
Nine of Swords: Anguish & Torment
This pain is violent. Cruel and ruthless, it tortures your mind without end. It involves anxiety, fear, sleepless nights, the urge to hurt yourself.
Ten of Swords: Defeat & Ruin
This pain is paralyzing. You have hit rock bottom, and are deciding between getting up and dying. It involves illness, death, a significant life crisis.
Seven of Wands: Struggle & Exhaustion
This pain is brutal. It attacks you from all fronts, leaving you panicked and gasping for breath. It involves your beliefs or reputation being assaulted.
Five of Pentacles: Hardship & Insecurity
This pain is isolating. It shames you, and turns you into a pariah or a victim. It involves total abandonment, banishment, complete financial ruin.
Five of Cups: Grief & Misery
This pain is quiet. Left with no choice, you have accepted life's judgment. It involves a lost opportunity, a regret for what has—or has not—come to be.

“False Alarm” Tarot Cards
The Hermit
Your first instinct might be to think, “I will die alone and unloved”. But very often, it just means your soulmate is a Virgo. Because this is Virgo’s card.
Justice
Some people draw the Justice card, and think a legal trouble is on the horizon. But often, it only means the wrongs in your life are about to be righted.
The Hanged Man
The go-to meanings for this are delays and sacrifices. But sometimes, The Hanged Man is only telling you that life is about to feel like a vacation.
The Devil
Many people are afraid that it means abuse, which it can. But in this card, the couple’s shackles are loose. So they can easily escape if they actually try.
The Tower
“My world will come crashing down!” tends to be the leading interpretation. But more often than not, it actually means, “Someone will rock your world.”
Five of Wands
This is a card of conflict, yes. But the fear it creates is unfounded. If you look at the card, no one is really hitting anyone. They are just playing around.
Nine of Wands
This one is often associated with the anxiety card, the Nine of Swords. But they are very different. In this, the enemy has already been vanquished.
Ten of Wands
Burdens. That is what everybody says. But the man in this card is not burdened by trouble. He is “burdened” by his harvest. He is bringing home the bacon.
Five of Pentacles
It can predict poverty, yes. But more importantly, it says that when poverty does come, help can be accessed. The couple is right outside a church – a sanctuary.
Seven of Pentacles
It does say, “Sorry. Keep waiting.” But what it is really saying is, “You are not waiting in vain.” Your rewards are guaranteed. They are just not ready yet.
Five of Cups
Most readers immediately see grief, and they are right. But there are two cups left standing. The future is still safe. Life still looks promising.
Eight of Cups
This card does not mean, “You are in danger. Walk away.” It means that while you are comfortable where you are, you will soon leave for a better path.
Seven of Swords
This is not always saying that you are the thief’s victim. Sometimes it means you are the one who will get away. Or that someone will sweep you off your feet.
Eight of Swords
No, you are not trapped. You are only feeling trapped. Yes, you need saving. But only from yourself. Let go of your hallucinations, and all will be well.

Tarot Time - Beltane Spread
Beltane is approaching! If you are like me, you like to do a reading for the upcoming season change. Here's a simple three-card spread to help you get some insight!
The words underneath the cards represent what you're reading for.
Here's how to use them:
Melting
What do you need to leave behind in order to thrive this season?
Perhaps a project, path, or though pattern has run it's course or taken up more space than it's worth. Whatever it is, you are better off leaving it in the past, as it will not serve you well in the future. Let it melt away with the last frost and allow for new things to grow.
Sowing
What is something new that you need to nurture this season?
Is there something on your mind as of late that you need to give more attention to? Maybe you have a new idea or you have been wanting to learn a new skill or hobby. What is it that you need to give more time and attention to in this coming season in order for it--and you--to thrive?
Growing
What is it that you need in order to grow this season?
It takes energy to push through the dirt and start the growing process. What can you lean on in this time you give you the strength to grow from here? Maybe a friend, positive thought pattern, therapy, or self-care routine. Find what it is that helps you grow and take care to give this your time and attention, as whatever care you place into this strength, you will receive it back in full (perhaps with interest)!
---
It can be hard to do long, detailed tarot spreads for a number of reasons. Maybe you're a busy person, or maybe you're brand new to tarot and the big spreads seem overwhelming, or maybe you just like to keep things simple.
Whatever the reason, simple spreads like this have done me a world of favors over the years so I'm sharing this one with you in hopes that it helps you as well!
As always, have a wonderful day! <3

do you have any divination opinions that aren't just "tarot is overrated"? it seems like that one is everybody's go-to
As someone who practices tarot, I too agree that it's pretty overrated. But that's beside the point.
My main opinion about divination is informed by running a tarot-reading blog (that I am thiiiis fucking close 🤏 to shuttering [my fingers are touching]). I believe that people are way too concerned about how things "will go" and aren't concerned enough with their role in it.
When I receive asks and divination requests, I notice that a lot of people are really passive in the way they frame their questions. This is most often seen in the form of "How does X feel about me?" and "How are my finals/school tests going to go?"
That second one makes me stop and go "Sugar, honey, are you studying?"
Because there are things that truly do just "happen" in life. But school tests are not one of those, especially for my college-age and college-learning querents. I understand anxiety about the test, gods know I get anxious about those too, but you can't be passive with tests. You have to actually take them and study for them.
The same, I believe, goes for connections with other people, especially through questions with implied romantic/sexual tension behind them, as is often the case for the "How does X feel about me?" type. If you want to know how X feels about you, you have to make a point to interact with and understand them. I never got questions that were geared more "active", such as "What can I do to get X to notice me?" or "What are some things I could do to better my relationship with X?"
Ignore the fact that I'm aroace and refuse to do relationship readings for a moment, because the querents looking for free readings sure do. The number of readings that I essentially "return to sender" without answering because they can't follow my guidelines is why I'm this fucking close to McSnapping.
And so many of the questions I get are just yes/no questions but reworded slightly to barely qualify as tarot-appropriate questions. Most of these rewords fail because they already assume one outcome is more inherent/innate than any others.
Thanks for sending this in, anon! I...did not realize I had this much to bitch about.
~Jasper

The High Priestess Tarot Spread
I perform the comprehensive Celtic Cross spread when reading for others. Because I do not lightly advise a querent, or predict his future, without first letting the cards tell me of his hopes, his fears, his past, his everything.
But when I predict for myself, I use this spread instead.
Step 1: Lay The High Priestess in front of you.
Embody her prophetic powers by gazing at her intently as you shuffle while asking your question.
Step 2: Pull three cards from the top of the deck.
• Card 1 (Ace of Cups) — The irrevocable truth about this person or situation
• Card 2 (The Lovers) — The destined purpose in your life of this person or situation
• Card 3 (Ten of Cups) — The inevitable future that will befall you and this person or situation
Step 3: Turn over the deck.
• Card at the bottom (The Fool) — The reigning energy over you and this person or situation
This is a traditional fortunetelling spread. It is not for the faint of heart. It will show you your future, whether you can handle it or not.

Illuminating Sun Spread
This one is a big one, folks. This spread is focused on discerning one’s path, figuring out which inclinations to follow and what elements to take on, return to, continue with, or let go.
Before you start the reading, make a list of every element you would like to examine. This could be a list of entities, different focuses of study, whatever you feel uncertain about and would like to assess. List as many or as few as you like; deep dives into one’s path will naturally have a longer list, quick checks may only have two or three. Be as thorough as you need. (Mine had 12.)
Center Card- This is your signifier. It’s you, your current state, the energy you exude or what you are searching for. This helps five context to the rest of the reading, helping inform how we interpret the later cards and seeing if things are compatible with your energy in this moment. Feel free to lay out more cards here if it feels right, and read them as one collective. Inner Ring- Lay out a card for every item you listed. These are the “rays” of your sun. This inner ring shows what you will be giving, should you follow this element. It’s what the path demands of you, what you’ll be expected to bring to the table, or what an entity may want from the relationship.
Outer Ring- Extend the rays with another card for each element. This is where the path is leading you, what you will receive from the path, what kind of energy it will invoke in you, for better or worse. It shows us the benefit (or detriment) of including this element. Here’s some help with interpreting….
A positive inner ring but a negative outer ring- This could be a sign of exploitation, that you’re giving more than you’re getting. It could also mean, depending on the specifics, that this is a viable path which you are not yet ready for. It could be a good relationship later on but you need more experience so that it doesn’t pummel you. Perhaps it’s a relationship you’ve held onto too long, and it’s no longer helping you.
A negative inner ring but a positive outer ring- Reverse exploitation, like if a spirit doesn’t want to work with you as much as you want to work with it. Could also be that you can’t yet (or no longer) handle this element appropriately, and your angle needs retooling.
Both rings negative- Mutually detrimental. Avoid for now.
Both rings positive- Mutually beneficial! Proceed with confidence.
And, of course, look to the details of each card and its orientation to determine exactly how everything clicks into place. For best results, come in with an open mind and leave sentimentality at the door. Be receptive to new ideas, and willing to let go of old ones.

(text comes from the instagram post)
Beginning my morning introspection tarot readings. 💕 I figure sharing them will help me form a habit while I drink my coffee. Instead of just sitting around in that annoying morning boredom. Definitely won't be just my Steampunk deck, of course. Different days will see a different deck.
This is basically an expanded (near) past, present, (near) future reading. I read the placements from top to bottom, with each column being read together, like a story.
This is a general reading about myself, but if you find something for yourself, then great! 😸
instagram
(Near past) Three of Pentacles, Eight of Pentacles, Nine of Cups: cooperation with others and myself, with hard work, focus, and an eye for detail, for the emotional peace I always dreamed of having.
(Present) Four of Swords, Five of Pentacles, Seven of Pentacles: currently taking a break from things (especially mentally), to focus on material stability like finances, and taking the time to appraise my efforts thus far.
(Near future) XIII Death, III The Empress, XIX The Sun: something that has run its course will come to a natural end, and a new creative project will be born, which will bring so much joy and fulfillment.
Final thoughts here, I guess. You have no idea how many times I've drawn the Five of Pentacles. It's one of those cards that just loves to show up. Like hello, I know money and resources are a thing I need to sort out.
It's kind of funny that each of the near future cards are all Major Arcana. It really gives me the impression this isn't going to be just some small thing going on.

How to Do the Major Arcana Grand Tableau
This spread uses all the Major Arcana to give you an overview of your whole year ahead. It is best performed on your birthday or on New Year’s Eve.
STEP 1: Lay out the Major Arcana in order.
Line 1: The Fool to The Lovers Line 2: The Chariot to The Hanged Man Line 3: Death to The Star Line 4: The Moon to The World
STEP 2: Shuffle the Minor Arcana.
As you do this, ask your higher power to show you a glimpse of your destiny for the upcoming year.
STEP 3: Draw a Minor for each Major.
One by one, take 21 cards from the top of the deck and place them over the Major Arcana, starting with The Fool. Then take the card at the bottom of the deck, and place it over The World.
STEP 4: Read the Minor against the Major.
The Major Arcana represent the important aspects of your life. The Minor Arcana reveal what will take place within these aspects.
The Fool – What will begin in your life?
The Magician – What dream will manifest?
The High Priestess – What secret will be uncovered?
The Empress – What will you harvest?
The Emperor – What will you have control over?
The Hierophant – What will remain unchanged?
The Lovers – How will your love life be?
The Chariot – What will make you victorious?
Strength – Where will you find strength?
The Hermit – What will you need to reflect on?
Wheel of Fortune – Where will you find luck?
Justice – Who will avenge you?
The Hanged Man – What will you have to sacrifice?
Death – What will be reborn?
Temperance – What will bring balance into your life?
The Devil – What will you be most passionate about?
The Tower – What will trigger a profound change?
The Star – Where will you find hope?
The Moon – What will stay clouded?
The Sun – What will bring you joy?
Judgement – Which of your oppressors will be punished?
The World – What will give you a sense of accomplishment?
Sample Interpretation:
The Four of Pentacles on The Lovers – “Your romantic partner will be very protective of you, maybe even to the point of being possessive.”
The Ace of Wands on The Hanged Man – “You will need to sacrifice a part of your career or pause a project you are passionate about.”
The Ten of Cups on The Devil – “You will be focusing all your attention and energy on starting or expanding your family.”
If we tie it all together, we arrive at: “You will get pregnant this year, prompting you to leave your stressful though fulfilling job, so you could focus instead on ensuring you have optimal health to carry the baby to term. During your pregnancy, your spouse will be taking care of you even more than before.”
STEP 5: Identify the court cards.
The Kings, Queens and Knights are the people who will play a vital role in your life, positively or otherwise.
King of Wands – Leo (Fixed Fire)
Queen of Wands – Aries (Cardinal Fire)
Knight of Wands – Sagittarius (Mutable Fire)
King of Cups – Scorpio (Fixed Water)
Queen of Cups – Cancer (Cardinal Water)
Knight of Cups – Pisces (Mutable Water)
King of Swords – Aquarius (Fixed Air)
Queen of Swords – Libra (Cardinal Air)
Knight of Swords – Gemini (Mutable Air)
King of Pentacles – Taurus (Fixed Earth)
Queen of Pentacles – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth)
Knight of Pentacles – Virgo (Mutable Earth)
Sample Interpretation:
There are two couples here — the King and Queen of Wands and the King and Queen of Pentacles: “You and your other half will be highly supportive of each other. You could be a Taurus and they could be an Aries, or vice versa. Either way, you will strongly feel the love and passion in your relationship.”
STEP 6: Notice the dominant suit.
Wands – Passion will overflow.
Cups – Emotions run the show.
Swords – The battle is in your mind.
Pentacles – Finances will be bright.
Sample Interpretation:
There are nine Wands and nine Pentacles each: “Your year will definitely not be lacking in passion and stability — materially and emotionally.”
STEP 7: Note the numbers that appear at least thrice.
Aces – A year of beginnings
Twos – A year of dilemmas
Threes – A year of affairs
Fours – A year of stability
Fives – A year of changes
Sixes – A year of harmony
Sevens – A year of challenges
Eights – A year of labor
Nines – A year of completion
Tens – A year of harvest
Sample Interpretation:
No number appeared more than twice. There is no discernible theme, numerology-wise.
STEP 8: Observe the ruling colors.
Black – Loneliness, regret, obstacles, purging
Red, Yellow, Orange – Passion, love, happiness, power
Blue, White, Green – Spirituality, logic, innocence, intuition
Sample Interpretation:
Red, yellow and orange are the ruling colors: “Your year will be filled with a passionate love that will bring you joy and a strong sense of control over your life.”
STEP 9: Record your grand tableau.
Take a photograph of your spread, and write down your interpretations of it.
STEP 10: Review your grand tableau.
At the end of each quarter, note which predictions have come true. By the end of the year, compare your interpretations to how the spread manifested. Doing so allows you to reflect on your past year, and improves your divination skills.

What Makes a Reading Good?
Alternate title: How Can I Be Confident My Readings Don’t Suck?
This is mostly written with tarot in mind, but I think the sentiment can apply to any type of in-depth divination or metaphysical readings. Here’s some things to look for in readings, and if you are charging a set price for your own readings, things to demand from yourself.
The information provided in a reading should be…
Relevant to the querents’ needs. If somebody comes to you asking about a specific question or topic, the reading should be designed to reflect that. This may mean using a different spread or focusing on details of meaning more relevant to the question than the traditional baseline meaning. (Example, if a querent is asking about money and I’m picking up signs of a new romantic relationship coming soon, it shouldn’t turn into a love reading. Rather, how might entering a new relationship affect ones’ finances?)
Abundant. Anybody can go online and find a random tarot card picker with a general description or some key words. If you’re providing a compensated service, your interpretation should have more meat than that. Allow yourself to explain your thought process or speculate on a deeper meaning, instead of regurgitating key words. After all, that speculation and personal insight is what they’re paying you for, otherwise they’d just find the bot! (For reference, I’m trying to give each of these points about the same amount of depth I would want to see in a really good tarot reading for each card.)
Nuanced. A lot of us are afraid to get into the details and specifics of an answer because we’re afraid of being wrong, so we just stick to being vague. Throw that out the window. Right now. Being specific HELPS your reading be more accurate, believable, and helpful, because if we’re too conservative with our details it gives the querent nothing to grab onto. Go for the specifics, the details, the things that make the querent say, “okay, I know exactly what that’s talking about.” (Example, what sounds better: “There’s conflict in the future” or “There’s conflict here, my gut says probably butting heads with an authority figure you’ve known for a while. Neither of you is right or wrong, but you’ll just keep wasting your time if you don’t compromise.”)
Understandable. Keep in mind that most of your querents will probably not practice the service you’re providing, or if they do they may just be beginners. Don’t shroud your reading in convoluted, arcane talk. If you can, explain some of how you’re getting the answers you getting. That doesn’t mean divulging secrets to your practice, but something like, “These runes are so close together, which to me means they’re working together, and the synthesis of their meanings could mean X.” Really helps a querent feel involved and more confident in your skills as their interpreter.
Applicable. Give the querent knowledge they can walk away with. If you’re doing all of the above steps this is probably happening anyway, but it’s important to keep in mind. You should always be able to answer the question: “What is the best next step for the querent to achieve their goals, once they leave this reading?” What can they do right now to develop themselves, prepare for success, repair that relationship, etc? Do they have a game plan? Basically, they should be able to take the insight you have provided them with and apply it to their life in a productive way.
I hope this helps some people assess their own readings, and gives new diviners a better idea of what they should be going for! Did I forget anything important? Let me know your thoughts!

Tarot Rules or Superstitions?
When in doubt, the rule of thumb is to treat tarot like a wise soul with a big ego. So ask yourself, “Will a wise and proud person be okay with me doing this to them?” If the answer is yes, go ahead. If the answer is no, avoid it.
Asking Out Loud
Some say this is the only way to get an accurate reading. Is that true?
When you speak to the cards out loud, you are acknowledging their existence as a conscious instrument. But when you speak to them in your mind, you are acknowledging a psychic connection between you and them. So neither actions will offend.
The real reason to ask out loud is so you can clearly set your intention. Sometimes, your mind is asking about a new romance, but your heart is pining for an ex. So when the cards are laid out, you do not know who they are referring to — someone old or someone new. But when you speak up, both your heart and your mind tend to focus on your voice, avoiding any confusion.
Reading at Night
Some say this should be avoided. Are they right?
Actually, even in companies whose official hours are 9 to 5, many deal-makings happen at dinner, under the moonlight. Because you can speak to anyone, even to tarot, at any time as long as the conditions are right.
It is not about the hour, but the space. Do not use your deck in a place where it is in danger of becoming filthy. You do not have to clean your whole house before a reading. But clean a space big enough where your deck will feel safe. Wipe the dust off your reading table. Sweep the floor surrounding it. That is all you need.
Crossing Your Arms or Legs
Some say this is disrespectful. Fact or fiction?
When you are being confronted by someone, crossing your arms or legs shows aggression and defensiveness. But when you are pleasantly speaking to someone interesting, crossing your arms or legs only shows that you are comfortable in their presence. Doing so will not offend.
In the tarot chapters of our family grimoire, there is a sketch of a woman seated like the Queen of Wands: arms open, legs spread out. It says, “This is how one must sit when performing a reading. Nothing closed, nothing crossed.” But not for fear of blocking energy, but to avoid muscle cramps and blood clots. Especially for hour-long readings. It is a tip for the physical body. Nothing to do with divine energy.

Tarot to find Lost Things
This is a basic dumb idea that I didn't see around a lot: Use the Tarot to find lost objects.
You know, when you are not sure if an object is even in your house, why don't use Tarot?
I personally use my own Oracle but the basic Major Arcana should work fine, still I find important that the cards have a good amount of images, since what you will use to find the object, is based in the images that you see, not in the meaning of the card itself. For this, very minimalist decks, or basic playing cards may not be useful enough.
So, let's say that you are an unmedicated AHDH as me, so you need to find things because your brain just can't cope with basic order. You sits and start to ask. Where is the Thing? Is in this house, outiside, in a specific room? Then the spread can help you.
Usually I find a basic 5 cards spread useful in this case, but is mostly because I use an Oracle. If your deck have tons of images, maybe 5 are too much... Too much info can lead to contradict itself or turn confusing, so start with a basic 3 cards and see if you have to add more. If your deck have little amount of images, it can need 5 cards or more.
Cards where the "ambient" is outisde, probably mean "not in your house/ in other house or lost in the street" (The Fool, The World, The Wheel of the Fortune).
Cards with columns and chairs can mention a "inside the house" (The High Priestess, The Justice, The Hieropanth).
Some cards can point where in reference to other objects. The Magician have stuffs over the table, it can point things over a table or furniture.
You have pets? Maybe is close your pet, and for that, cards with animals can give a hint (The Strenght, The Chariot).
The cards with suns can hint that is "at sight" (The Sun).
Cards with moons and stars can point the Bedroom (The Moon, The Star).
Card with little light? Inside a closet! It have water? Maybe in the bathroom! Have plants? The garden! Chairs? Check close a chair or the kitchen! Fruits? Maybe close the fridge! Have clothes? Maybe on your bed!
What's matter, is that you focus in the objects that you see, and specially based on YOUR DECK. Since not all the decks are the same, it can have a lot of variations that you need to consider. Example, The Hermit have a light in his hand, which can point to be close a lamp, but if your card is an Hermit Crab, of course it will not mean the same. Be smart, be creative.
