Terry couldn’t help but smile at Iggy’s compliment, but frowned when Iggy talked about their parents, but he didn’t look surprised. “I already know,” he said quietly. “You don’t have to talk about it Iggy if you don’t want to. After you— after you died, both mom and dad were relieved... and then, when I finally proved you innocent post mortem, then dad was guilty- wouldn’t even look at me, mom asked why I went through all that trouble for you.”
Terry didn’t even take a deep breath to calm down, the fire built up in him, but unlike most- he controlled his anger now. “I told them off. I told them that they would never see me again. I told them both that they- that they could go fuck themselves for all I care, they were dead to me.” Terry let out a hollow laugh, shaking his head. “No- they aren’t apart of my life anymore... they’ll never be apart of Nate’s life either... I never letting them hurt my son the way they hurt you or me.”
Terry finally took a long deep breath to calm down and got a piece of gum. He popped it in his mouth. “Better to be addicted to gum than drugs,” he said simply, before listening to Iggy about Merrin. He couldn’t help but laugh, shaking his head. “That’s great Iggy, I’m glad that you’re happy now,” he said with a grin. “Things worked out I guess... although Glenna is probably going to freak out when she sees you.”
Terry: @magic-under-the-surface
“I was probably too high or too scared to tell you anything,” Terry admitted. “I’ve honestly lost so much of my life to drugs I don’t remember the original reason- maybe it’s a bit of both,” he suggested and sighed. His eyes widened at the wand and he looked at his own for a moment. He stayed quiet for a while, letting Iggy speak.
Terry cleared his throat. “Redwood wood with a dragon heartstring core, 12 and half inches and rigid flexibility,” He said, looking at his own wand. “The Demon King of all Demon Kings,” Terry muttered in wonder.
“If I had known you were magic too I would have… done something- took you to the magic school with me, run away- or something,” Terry said. “But I was too high to see my own problems- much less yours.” He took a deep breath. “I can’t screw up learning this Iggy- Nate- Ignatius- my son… he’s already showing signs of magic…” Terry exhaled, frowning lightly.
“I don’t want him like me.”
“That tells me already that you’re a good dad, Terry. He’ll grow up to be a good man, like you are, and with your guidance and love, he’ll be even better. A better dad than what we had growing up, that’s for sure. I mean—I never thought our parents were terrible, but then—” He shook his head. “My horns. They compelled mom and dad to—to tell me what they really thought of me. Dad thought I was guilty beyond reason, and Mom, she—”
His voice cracked and he swallowed before he continued. “She told me she just—wanted me to go away and to forget that I ever existed. Who—who feels that way about their own kid?” He asked, looking up at his brother’s face, unshed tears stinging the corners of his eyes.
“None of that matters now, though. Look where we are. We’re learning magic, you have a wife and a kid, you’re a great dad, I bet, and I have—” He smiled wide. “I have a wife, too. Her name’s Merrin, Terry, you should meet her, she’s wonderful.” He couldn’t help but be a little silly about it. “She’s my Queen. I’m a King of Hell and Merrin left Heaven to be with me.”

Merrin couldn’t help but smile, shivers running down her own body at Iggy’s touches. She left small hickeys along Iggy’s neck.
“How much did you miss me?” She asked, a smirk in her voice as she shifted ever so slightly, teasing Iggy just a bit.
Merrin sat on Iggy’s lap, wearing only her bra and underwear. “I missed you,” she purred, kissing him deeply before moving to kiss and nip at his neck. “I’ve been thinking of you all day,” she breathed. (@magic-under-the-surface)
@magic-under-the-surface
Shivers raced along Iggy’s skin at every movement, every kiss, and every little bite Merrin gives him. His hands weren’t idle, calloused fingers trailing along the skin of her back, her hips, teasing just under the lines of her underthings.
“I missed you, too, baby,” he murmured. He hadn’t been gone that long, two days? Three? His new job sometimes took him away from home, but never for very long, nor very often, and he had his beautiful wife to come home to.

She couldn’t help but smile at Harry’s answer. Her arms wrapped around the boy and she kissed the top of his head. “Then we better make our way over to the Dursleys then. We’ll have to talk to them, get your school supplies and everything you need, and then we’re getting you new clothes and new glasses,” she said, giving Harry one more kiss on the top of the head, before taking the boy to her bus. She made it turn into a nice car before letting him in.
It was rather easy to convince the Dursleys, and Valerie bought the house next door Incase someone said something about the protection magic... plus popping in and giving the Dursleys hell for a couple of days was a fun idea. She then took Harry to an eye doctor for his updated prescription and handed him his new glasses. “How do they feel?” She asked.
magic-under-the-surface:
“Because I care about you Harry. I want you safe, I want you to feel loved, and you’ve had none of those things because of the decisions of adults who never had to deal with the consequences of the choices they’ve made for you,” Valerie said softly. “I should have never left you alone Harry, and I apologize for that… but this is also your decision. I’m not much, and I’ve never had a child before, but I want you to know, even if you decide you don’t want to live with me, the offer will always be there.”
She wasn’t wrong. Dumbledore didn’t have to live every day of his life with the consequences of where he’d left Harry as a baby. He didn’t have to think about it, or even know about it if he didn’t want to. But Harry—Harry had to face every day as a child, knowing that he was unwanted and unloved. Just a thorn in their side or a pebble in their shoe. He had to live with the knowledge that if he never showed up on that platform, they’d just shrug and go home and never think about him again; happy that he never made it back. He swallowed the lump in his throat. “I—I’d be honored if you—if you actually want to adopt me.”

Harry let out a sigh as he listened, not sure if he believed her, or found it sad that more people had the same home situation as he did, or just found it all pathetic. He shook his head; he hadn’t known why she’d left, or what happened, only that he’d greatly mourned her leaving. She went from being an amazing influence in his life, someone he could trust, to just being gone. But when she brings up convincing them to adopt him, his eyes widened. “You—you’d want to do that? Why?”

“Believe it or not Harry, I do, I do know what it was like, and that’s why I singled you out after class on my first day. That’s why I took you on those trips.... I wanted your life to be better in a world of adults who don’t seem to care about you...” The former DADA said gently. “I couldn’t stay at Hogwarts after that year though, which I deeply regret because I couldn’t make sure you were safe... but my sister had gotten into a terrible accident, and I had to help take care of her.” Mrs. Frizzle cleared her throat. “If you’ll have me as a mother, I will go down and convince the Dursleys to let me adopt you.... that is... if you want.”
“You don’t know what it’s like. Day after day, knowing that the only blood relatives you have would rather you shrivel up and die. Knowing that you have to go back to a house that has never been a home, back to people who wish you wouldn’t come back at all. K n o w i n g that they’re waiting for you at the station, hoping and praying and wishing more than anything, that you won’t get off that train. That you won’t come back alive. Wishing that you were dead so they could just be rid of you. You don’t know what it’s like to be that despised.”

“You’re welcome Harry,” Valerie said with a nod. “Have a nice day dear, try not to get into as much trouble as I have during my school years,” she added with a small smirk on her face. She hoped the children would like the surprise.
“Hello dear, just a moment,” The Professor said, climbing down the floating tables and pulling something out of her pocket. She set it on the ground and waved her hand, making the school bus grow to its normal side. “It may not look like much students, but one thing you’ll learn is sometimes the real magic is under the surface,” she said with a wink, gesturing for the children to follow her onto the bus.
magic-under-the-surface:
Harry’s enthusiasm took her by surprise and she grinned. “Thank you harry, I’m glad you think so, many wizards and witches believe the idea is ludacris, but muggles, without magic, were able to go to the moon…. I, combining science and magic together, was able to make it to Pluto,” she said, giving Harry a smile. “I’ll tell you how later.”
“If you need any more cookies you can just ask,” Valerie reassured, smiling at the boy. “And tell them that if the three of you need anything for the trip, just ask me,” she said. At the meantion of a note, she quickly wrote one out for harry. “Meet me after supper, I’ll show you something extraordinary… you can bring your friends if you’d like,” she said, giving him a small smile.
His teacher had made it to Pluto?! That was incredible and all Harry could do was stare at her for a moment, mouth agape until she gave him the note for his next teacher. “I would like that a lot, yeah, thank you, Professor.” Then, he excused himself and rushed off to his next class.
Ron and Hermione had wholeheartedly agreed to go with him after dinner to meet up with Professor Frizzle. They were just as curious about what this “something extraordinary” could be as Harry was. So as soon as they could manage, they all made their way back to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and peeked inside.
“Professor Frizzle? We’re here,” Harry announced.

Draco sighed. “I could always fight her,” he said flatly, in almost annoyance. “I know love, but I wish she wasn’t such a damn bitch...” he said squeezing Harry’s hand gently. A scowl was on his face as he looked at the table.
“He’s bisexual, I’m demisexual,” Draco corrected. Merrin looked confused. “It means that I only feel sexual attraction when I’ve first made a connection with someone, typically a romantic connection.” Merrin paused and nodded.
“She’s Xenophobic,” Draco said. “Xenophobic and homophobic,” he said simply. “Harry’s father wasn’t born in Britain, so she hates Harry. She hates me because I was born in France,” he lied smoothly. “Harry’s father was born in the Netherlands. She’s hated Harry since she was two since he’s the son of an immigrant.” Well he couldn’t exactly say “son of a wizard, so this world have to work.
Merrin frowned. Oh so she was one of those people. “I’m sorry,” she told Draco quietly. “How long did you live in France?” She asked.
Draco paused. “... one... maybe two years? I don’t remember it, but I have gone to see it a couple times.”
magic-under-the-surface:
Draco looked away at the reactions to his drinking comment. He hated it honestly, he had made a mistake… well… several mistakes that lead to an addiction, and was recovering as best as he could now. He sighed softly, pulling out a small pen and notebook from the small bag he carried. He wrote somethings down, muttering to himself in french.
Draco pulled out his phone, looking at the picture he had of the Potter family tree with a light frown. “There’s no one that’s odd or whatever, it has to be from your mother’s side of the family,” he said. “All of these family members stayed in England,” he said with a sigh.
“She’s an bitch and I would love nothing more than to fight her,” Draco said simply, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I’ll go and talk to her, I think I’ll be able to convince her to tell us something,” he said, clasping his hands together. “I was born into a wealthy family, and money talks.”
“Are you sure your family is going to be okay with that?” Merrin asked and Draco snorted, shaking his head.
“No, but my family can’t say anything about what I do at this point,” Draco said simply.
Harry placed his hand on top of Draco’s and gently squeezed. “Draco. Love. No.” He shook his head. “No, I’m not going to let you do that, she hates—what we are, she isn’t going to accept money from either of us. She won’t even talk to me anymore. But,” he paused, thinking for a moment. “She does still talk to Dudley. I bet he could convince her to give him information about my mother.”
He had been getting along with Dudley the last few years, they had grown closer than they ever had been growing up. Mainly because he had stood up to his parents and told them he didn’t want to be what they had raised him to be. He’d then contacted Harry and the two had been talking back and forth since then.
Iggy can sense there are things these two aren’t telling him and Merrin, but he doesn’t push the issue. At least—not much. “What do you mean—what you are? What, that you’re gay?”
“Bisexual, actually, but sure.” Harry responded. “Well—I mean—there are a lot of things about me that she hates. She always has, ever since she had to take me in when my parents died when I was two.”
“She hated a two year old?” Iggy asked in disbelief. “What kind of cold-hearted bitch hates a baby? Especially when she obviously had a kid of her own, so it’s not like she hates kids in general, right?”

“I was probably too high or too scared to tell you anything,” Terry admitted. “I’ve honestly lost so much of my life to drugs I don’t remember the original reason- maybe it’s a bit of both,” he suggested and sighed. “Yeah- I can see that you dipshit,” Terry said but tightened his grip, as if Iggy would disappear. He let Iggy pull out of the hug, and gave him a smile, but that dropped as he sighed. “Well, I got it proven that you didn’t kill Merrin, and got you and Merrin a proper grave,” he said. “I left town with Glenna- mom and dad-“ Terry swallowed thickly and his jaw clenched in rage before he takes a deep breath to calm himself.
“They were relieved, Iggy- god- I just- I wanted to beat the shit out of them both… I couldn’t stay there or else I probably would have… so I left with Glenna,” he said. “I write songs for a famous tv show under a pen name now, and Glenna’s a tattoo artist,” he said, before pulling his left hand away to show Iggy his wedding ring. “We got married, and now have a four year old son…. Ignatius.” He said, pulling out his phone and showing Iggy a picture of the smiling boy. “We call him ‘Nate’ for short.”
Terry put his phone away and took another deep breath. “There’s something I have to actually tell you,” he said, placing one hand on Iggy’s shoulder before pulling out a wand and making it light up. “This- this is the reason I had become a drug addict. Our parents didn’t want a magical child- and we lived in such a conservative town that it would have shamed them- so I started hiding it… and stealing pills from the cabinet to suppress it. But now? I’m learning to control it in a healthier way.”
Iggy wasn’t surprised to hear that his parents were relieved when they learned about his death, and he just let Terry talk, tell him all sorts of things, about marrying Glenna, having a four year old, who looked positively adorable in the picture his brother showed him, and then—then came the magic. That—That was definitely new, and Iggy’s eyes went wide.
“You—you have magic, too?” He asked quietly. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?” He shook his head, knowing his brother was probably too high to have told him before. “I don’t just have demonic powers now, I have this—wand. I’ve had a tutor.” His voice dropped to almost a whisper. “Terry, I met THE Demon King of All Demon Kings. He’s been teaching me magic, he’s taught me all sorts of things.” He explained.
He finally took out his own wand. “See? He took me to a friend of his who makes custom wands, and we had it specially made. It’s Hawthorn, Horned Serpent Horn, twelve and a half inches and,” he paused, trying to remember what the wandmaker had said. “Something about reasonably pliant, I don’t know what that means, it’s a stick of wood.” The point was, they both had wands, they both were learning magic, and honestly, Iggy was incredibly happy for Terry, and it showed on his face.

Merrin smiled sadly, looking up at Iggy. “Not anymore,” she said quietly, leaning up to kiss Iggy’s nose. “Iggy- I’m sorry... I... I wanted you to move on and be happy, I rather you heart broken than go through what my father went through when my mother died....” she said quietly. “I wasn’t sleeping with anyone, I didn’t cheat on you- Iggy I was dying.... I wanted to make sure I didn’t hurt you with my death, but... things never go to plan.”
Terry frowned lightly and sighed, rubbing his neck. “Lee threw Merrin’s body into the river and that’s.... that’s why she’s a mermaid,” he said quietly.
“What about you Terry? You never told me what happened to you,” Merrin said, watching terry freeze up.
“... Lee didn’t want anyone finding out who killed you, so he drug me to the river and drowned me,” Terry said simply. “I couldn’t fight back very well- Lee’s always been healthy and I’m... a drug addict.”
Terry sighed. “It doesn’t matter now- we’re all together, even though I kinda wish I could see you Iggy.”

“Something’s in the water that’s not supposed to be here.”
Merrin frowned at Terry, his unblinking, non-working eyes staring at nothing. Most people would doubt the blind merman, but Merrin knew that Terry had incredible senses…. it helped him move around.
“Let’s go then,” she said, taking Terry’s hand, and following his lead. She gasped when she saw the familiar car come into view- and a body was inside. “It’s Iggy!” She said, swimming at full speed.
“Iggy?!” Terry’s eyes widened and he followed after Merrin. They yanked the car door off and Terry picked up the unconscious Iggy, ignoring the feeling of scales and fins. He gently set iggy on the rocks, frowning.
“Come on iggy- wake up- please wake up,” Merrin begged, if she could cry underwater, she would be right now. “Iggy please- I’m sorry, I never wanted to hurt you…”
He had figured it out. He’d figured out who killed Merrin and with his horns, he managed to make Lee confess to his crimes. But something went wrong, the horns didn’t compel him like they did other people. He confessed, but he fought back, and he’d locked Iggy in his car and set the damned thing on fire. It was instinct that propelled Iggy to step on the gas and drive into the river.
But the damage had already been done, and he passed out when he hit the water. He wasn’t aware of how the flames had been healing him, and he wasn’t aware of how the flames mixed with the water and changed his biology even further.
Red scales blossomed along his body, legs became a fin, and what was left of his clothes from the fire had drifted away in the current. What he became aware of was the fact that he wasn’t drowning. He was breathing somehow and there were hands on him. Voices that reached his ears, and a smooth surface at his back.
Finally he opened his eyes, Merrin’s voice was too much to resist, and asked, “am I dead?” Newly webbed fingers reached up to gently caress Merrin’s face. “I must be if you’re here.”

“Are you sure your family is going to be okay with that?” Merrin asked and Draco snorted, shaking his head.
“No, but my family can’t say anything about what I do at this point,” Draco said simply.
magic-under-the-surface:
Both Merrin and Draco didn’t notice the shared look between their partners. Merrin smiled and gently squeezed Iggy’s hand, giving him a gentle smile. They would figure this out, she knew it. Draco kept his mouth shut at the hostesses comment about Iggy and Harry being twins. This whole situation made him want to bash his head into the wall as he tried to solve it in his mind.
“Not all twins look alike Harry- I don’t think you’re twins, but I don’t think the fact you look similar is just a stroke of luck either considering… the circumstances of your family,” Draco said, glancing over at Harry with a frown. He was referring to the fact that the potters were a pureblooded family line until it reached Harry…
“Then what do you think?” Merrin asked, frowning. Draco sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I don’t know- that’s the problem…” Draco said. “I have my masters in chemistry, not biology…” he said, using a bit of a lie to keep his magical heritage a secret. “Theorictically… you both could share a family member…” Draco said, muttering to himself. “This is gonna drive me to drink again,” he grumbled softly, pulling out a small notebook to at least figure this out on paper.
He sighed when he realized what he said. “I- I didn’t mean to say that, I’m just frustrated figuring this out, I’ve stopped drinking for good,” he said to Harry, more of a reminder to himself than to Harry. Merrin frowned and glanced at Iggy, but kept quiet at the drinking comment.
Harry knew Draco had stopped drinking for good, and he appreciated it. Though they did have the occasional glass of wine with their dinner, Harry never let Draco drink too much; not even enough for the other man to get tipsy, never mind drunk.
Iggy took a deep breath. He had his fair share of drunken nights, especially after Merrin’s death, though since becoming a King of Hell and having her by his side once more, he’d laid off the alcohol. He had come dangerously close to following in his brother’s footsteps until he grew horns and had to figure out why and how to get rid of them.
“The thing is, I don’t think I have any American relatives. Not as far as I know, but then—I don’t know a lot about my mum’s side of the family. There’s all this history written down about the Potters, but not the Evans, because they weren’t—er—uhh.” Shit. He was going to say they weren’t purebloods, that his mother had been muggleborn, but he shouldn’t say that, not in front of Iggy and Merrin. “They weren’t really big on family history I guess, and I can’t ask Aunt Petunia, she’ll never tell me.”
“Aunt Petunia? Why wouldn’t your aunt tell you?” Iggy asked, noting how Harry grimaced and almost shrank back in his seat.
“Because she hates me. She’d rather not have anything to do with me at all.”
