In light of what's going on around the world with the COVID19 Pandemic, I hope everyone (reading this) stays safe and healthy. Please make the effort to stay in community and reach out to people. Thanks to the frontline and healthcare workers, retail and other workers who keep working despite what's going on. There are many who might fall in the cracks and struggle so let us be mindful and help, and stay thankful and appreciate everything we have.
Thanks for visiting my blog! All comments, likes and viewers are appreciated!

The Great Sphinx of Giza
One of the most famous monuments in the world, the Great Sphinx of Giza is a giant limestone statue of a sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It is 240 feet (73 m) long from paw to tail; stands 66 feet (20 m) high from the base to the top of the head; and is 62 feet (19 m) wide at its rear haunches.
The Great Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and, for centuries, it was the largest sculpture in the world. However, not much in known about the monument.
Scholars remain in disagreement over when the Great Sphinx was constructed and for whom. The most popular view is that it represents the King Khafra of the 4th dynasty during the Old Kingdom and thus it was constructed during his reign which lasted from 2558 BC to 2532 BC. According to some recent studies the Sphinx was built as long ago as 7000 BC suggesting that the statue was the work of an advanced civilization predating the ancient Egyptians. However, traditional Egyptologists reject this view.

Miniature Coffin of Tutankhamun
The interior of the alabaster canopic chest of King Tutankhamun was divided into four compartments, each holding a miniature gold coffin containing the viscera of the king, wrapped in bandages.
These mummiform coffins were decorated inside with texts and outside with a feather design inlaid in carnelian and colored glass and the titles of the king. Each coffin was under the protection of one of the four sons of Horus. This one was dedicated to Hapi and to Nephthys.
From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, West Thebes. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. JE 60688

This is one of my works in 2015!
Media and Influence (Mix Media and Collage on Canvas, 2015)
Partly inspired by Noam Chomsky’s book “Manufacturing Consent”, I wanted to illustrate the effects of media and how we as a viewers and consumers react to the negative and powerful images presented to us on a daily basis. Some eyes are stitched open while others are in a state of opening up and breaking the stitches. Some are glued to negative news and events while others are in the state of awakening and are beginning to see the dark side of the media. The wound looking images are images from newspapers collaged and blurred out to show obscurity and confusion. There are many half-truths and lies being presented, yet in the myriad of images there is some truth--- often the painful truth of human suffering.
*Side Note: This is another social commentary about media and its effects, don’t mean to bash the media—it’s simply a critique of its effects and the role it plays in manufacturing dominant and sometimes pervasive views on various world issues, peoples, and cultures. I’m not denying that these issues obviously exists and are affecting various groups of people.

This is one of my works in 2015!
From Rene Magritte to William McElcheran: The Evolution of the Bourgeoise (Mix Media & Collage on Canvas, 2015)
I mapped the idea by going back to Rene Magritte's painting “Son of Man” (1964) and the “False Mirror” (1928) and connected it to William McElcheran's sculpture The “Encounter” (1986) which is now located at back of York's Student Centre. Basically the ideal "man" in a capitalist society has changed from the high aiming upper class to the "Encounter" where two characters bump into each other and realize how alike they are--- how society has conformed us into the idealized upper class (Bourgeoise) model to the point where there is very little distinction between characters which depicts the triumph of capitalism. The "evolution" of the ideal white collar/business man (Bourgeoise) is a social commentary about the way/s in which the ideals of a modern capitalist society from the 1920s prevailed and continuously evolves to permeate post-modernism.

One of my fave series– The Wallflower (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge). Watched it a few years ago, but re-watching the anime. Both are good versions, slightly different from the manga. Where humour meets horror!
