Make Cyclops Great Again
Ever since I can remember reading comics I have always loved, loved the X-Men. I love their stories, the underdog theme, the stakes of their race being in danger, their arcs, their villains, the challenges they face and the reflection of it in our society, their message and most of all I have always loved the characters. From the strong ahead of their time female characters that I loved like Jean Grey and Storm to the leader of the X-Men, Scott Summers. See while I know most people like the anti-hero, the Wolverine, in regards to comics I have always liked the straight up heroes, the good nice guys, just like Cyclops (Spider-Man, Luke Skywalker...)
Those characters have always appealed to me and Cyclops is perhaps my favourite because he is an XMan. Lately however, in my opinion, they have gone from having him at his best some years ago to destroying his character in favor of Wolverine. To start we need to go back to the early 2000s and Joss Weedons magical and incredible run throughout the Astonishing X-Men (point to corner). See although Cyclops had great moments before this for me this is when his character became kick-ass. Through his pairing with prob my fave Xwomen (whom I miss) Emma Frost he became an awesome assertive leader. They presented him to us as the guy who always has a plan and it was AWESOME (show some comic panels). His character was really cool, alongside Emma they were a strong powerful and assertive couple capable of leading mutants. This only continued throughout the next years with House of M and him facing mutant extinction. I mean he was such a cool character, and for me his greatest moment came when he beat with his plan Norman Osborn during X-Men Utopia which was beautifully followed by Second Coming perhaps my favourite modern X-Men story.
Tumblr media
But then came AvX and that is what killed Cyclops as a character. They decided to turn him villain and destroy him just so that they could push the Avengers and Wolverine. Wolverine as a man who did not want kids to be trained to fight....right....wolverine....the man who murders....who trained Jubilee and others....yes that makes sense. The worst thing though was that Cyclops actions were correct! He was fighting to save a whole species with just 300 members who was being targeted for destruction! And the Phoenix did come for what he said, restore mutants! SO DESPITE EVERYTHING HE WAS RIGHT OVERALL
Tumblr media
Cyclops being portrayed like that is the result of Marvel not being capable of produce good X-Men Stories. Nowadays because they lost the rights to the movies, all they do is give Inhumans amazing storie, have them be important, but lets be honest, they are not the X-Men. Yes, they are cool but they are not the XMen characters that for years and years have entertained us and given us some of the best stories, and this fall of the Xmen is seen in Cyclops.
Nowadays after what seemed to be them stepping in the right direction in the last issue of Uncanny X-Men before Secret Wars, with Cyclops giving a message of hope to the world, a classic X-Men message they decided to throw it all away and have him die a meaningless death. This is wrong. Cyclops should not be used like that, he is one of the most amazing characters in Comics mythos, and the leader of the X-Men, the man who throughout all the crisis lead them, the man who was involved with two of the most powerful telepaths ever, the man who defeated Norman Osborn and the man who saved mutantkind from extinction. Cyclops represents the classic awesome hero, the one that is always ready to sacrifice himself for the weak, not this villain who is not even in the comics anymore. Let’s make the X-Men great again, let’s give them classic X-Men stories where they can thrive, let’s remember what made them the most popular Marvel comic, let’s make Cylops remember great again, and remember Cyclops was right.

Royal Rumble 2017
Tumblr media
This past Sunday 29th of January, my favourite WWE event took place the Royal Rumble. I LOVE, LOVE wrestling, when wrestling is done well, it is an amazingly entertaining show to watch and for years I have been following it closely (although lately more than ever). While I do follow some other promotions, I am majorly interested in WWE and out of all the PPVS they do, the Rumble has always been my favourite event.
I love the excitement that comes with the Rumble, everytime that number hits 0 I mark out, the whole atmosphere speaks to me, the fact that we all now that the Road to Wrestlemania starts with the Rumble and every small interaction can be a clue towards what might happen at Wrestlemania. That is why I love wrestling, its the excitement, the storytelling that makes me love it.
So with that said lets get into this years Rumble. First of all let me start by saying that I thought it was a great Rumble, one of the best Rumbles in a long, long time! All of the matches before the actual Rumble were awesome, especially AJ/Cena which is a belter of a match.
The Rumble though, that was what I was most excited for and it did not let me down. I thought that from top to bottom it was really well done. Strowman and Corbin where the early MVPs and the last 15mn were awesome. All the big players came out, the atmosphere was awesome, Lesnar being eliminated by Goldberg, Taker taking him out and then...Reigns.
Everybody has been hating on Reigns, on him coming out at #30 but I thought it was a great use of him. WWE is clearly using the hatred he receives to give a better product, to get a reaction from the crowd. Whatever you think about him, you can’t deny the fact that the place came alive when he came, there was such an electrifying atmosphere! His elimination of Taker and yelling “This is my yard now” was awesome, and is clearly and indication of him turning heel! (at least lets all hope so) with an upcoming program with Taker on the horizon.
Tumblr media
(his actions and the commentary MUST be a sign that he is turning heel)
People have been complaining about the fact that Balor, Joe or Angle did not come out and I do not understand it! Balor is still injured and has not been cleared, Angle had stated that he was not appearing on the Rumble plus once he comes back he deserves all the spotlight not one shared with other wrestlers and Joe had a better debut the next night!
Overall the Rumble was great, fun and it set up a lot of stories for the future, providing us with an intriguing road to Wrestlemania. Of course it was not perfect, Wyatt should have probably won instead of Orton but that did not take away any of the overall enjoyment! Nothing is perfect in this world and we should not complain about it, if it entertain us then we should sit back and turn off our brains for a bit, that is what wrestling is about! I think people need to stop complaining sooo much and relax and enjoy wrestling, wrestling is not meant to be a serious sport but an entertainment and people should relax and have fun!

Civil War II - Part 2
Tumblr media
Oh Tony, things won’t go well for you...
So lets finish this review of Civil War II. After much fuss and a very very inferior build up compared to the great first Civil War by Mark Millar we finally reached the last issue, the climax, the great fight between Captain Marvel and Iron Man, this two AWESOME warrios finally meet and...it was such a letdown...
Seriously Marvel if you are going to kill Tony, and I can understand that and support that, but only if its done in the epic way this character deserves. This series in general was full of great potential, good characters, an awesome moral conflict, a great setting and yet it failed to deliver in almost every way. It was boring, full of anticlimatic fights and resolutions and was once again a symptom of how Marvel has gone overboad with its crossovers!
Tumblr media
Iron Man really deserved a much better death
See Marvel is now just doing crossovers for the sake of doing them, to make money, but not taking care of making sure there is a good story behind it, that there is substane and an awesome backstory. I am a big big Marvel fan, but lately I have been enjoying DC a bit more, since they have gone back to their roots. By this I don’t mean bringing back their old heroes, but bringing back the old DC hopeful tone, and it is awesome! The stories are great, they are full of substance and development. Meanwhile Marvel is just going crazy, making unnecesary changes without developing the characters, providing us big crossovers (namely Civil War II and Secret Wars) but without bringing big substantial change. The latest example is how they have completely destroyed Cyclops as a character (there will be a further post about this) and have made the XMen as a whole loose their charm and their essence.
I am hoping for a change, hoping for a return to the old classic storytelling full of great meaningful stories because otherwise soon if it does not change I wil stop reading them!

Ulysses literally getting the fuck out from the Marvel Universe

Civil War Part 1
So Civil War II the big Marvel crossover of the year, the one that would change the status quo of Marvel Comics finished last week. I have taken this whole week to think about it and digest it, and after a full week of thinking about it my reaction is...well I think Simba says it all...
Tumblr media
Seriously, WTF was that? Everything was such a mess, from the delayed comics (the event was supposed to have been long finished by now) to the jumbled messed up storyline. Even now, that I am trying to write about it, I find it difficult to start since it was a big mess!
First of all lets start with the resolution of the whole Ulysses being able to see the future. I always knew that his character had to in some way disappear, I mean his existence killed the drama of comics. Having a character that knows when a crime is going to happen kills drama. So yeah I knew he would not become a thing, but I figured he would die in some dramatic way, sacrifice himself or something like that...what a fool I was.
Instead he literally just has a load of possible visions, becomes too powerful, is told by Eternity he should leave, and he literally just leaves in a “Peace Out” moment...yes this happened, this is the big resolution Marvel gave us for this whole plot point...all I can say is WTF???
This is a recurring issue with Marvel crossovers, we have soooo many they are all pointless and I am a bit tired of it. In my next post I will discuss further this idea, for now lets just try to forget this ending...

Star Wars EU or Legends
This holidays I have passed them at my family home which has given me the chance to look back at a lot the Star Wars material that I have around the house (basically comics, books and the old Star Wars encyclopedia I have). Besides realizing how much money I have spent on Star Wars stuff (literally if I stop and think about it, I realize why I don’t have all the other nice things I want…) I have realized that it is sad how many good stories have been lost now that Disney owns Star Wars.
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the way Disney is treating the story and the new and exciting stories we are being told. However it is a bit sad realizing that some of this great stories are being considered non canon. I specifically wish they could somehow bring back everything they did with the Old Republic (thousand of years before Phantom Menace) since those comics and stories were some of my favorite Star Wars stories.
See, I realize the importance of them treating almost everything that happened from Phantom Menace to beyond Return of the Jedi as non canon, since if they did not do this they would be very limited in creating new stories, however some of the stories from the Expanded Universe (now known as Legends) were incredibly good and gave an amazing backstory to the Star Wars world.
I always enjoyed the Old Republic stories, the ones provided by the comics, books and video games, as for me (a history buff) it was awesome to see this characters that were legendary for the character we loved from the main saga. I especially loved the early Jedi stories with their struggles against the Sith Empire and Sith warriors like Exar Kun (a personal favorite)
Tumblr media
Nomi Sunrider and Ulic Qel-Droma were my two personal favorite characters
The other comics I really enjoyed were those they did during the Clone Wars, especially those regarding my favorite character Aayla Secura as it showed basically the development of a war, which lets be honest, is awesome! Star Wars Clone Wars provided us with some great stories (others not so good) but it made us love those characters and in my opinion made Revenge of the Sith a better movie as seeing those Jedi die was even more heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
Aayla Secura was my favorite Jedi and a kickass character!
I hope that Disney and Marvel find a way to bring those stories that provided a backstory to the Star Wars mythos but do not take away from any of the stories they are currently telling. I loved those characters (and spent waaaaaay too much money on them) and was really invested in them so I do hope to once again see them and their awesome stories once again told. Although I will admit that I will love Star Wars no matter what and this might be more wishful thinking and nostalgia talking since bringing the Dark Horse comics into the canon now that Marvel is involved is almost impossible. Reuniting with their stories again has been awesome and hopefully some of them are brought back into the fold.
Until then. May the Force be with You!
See ya!
(P.S. I know my blog does not look great so far, I am still working on improving it so any help will be more than welcome!)

Hopefully through this media I will be able to finally use all the knowledge I have always had and have never really been able to use! I will be sharing my thoughts over stuff like Civil War 2, the new Star Wars movies and hopefully this will also help wiwth my other project my youtube channel!
As for me, well I am 25 years old, my name is Alejandro Montero from Spain and I am a Political Scientist, working right now in public administration helping Start-ups grow and develop. However I have recently realized (and yeah kinda late...way to go Alejandro) that my true passion lies in film and basically all things nerd! As a result I have recently started to endeavour to be involved in some capacity in this world and this will be one of my outlets!
Anyways, enough ramblings, here is my nerdy blog, I hope people enjoy and actually that someone reads it, which now that I think about it...is going to be the greatest challenge! Bring it on Tumblr!
