A couple of weeks ago I made a post about New Gen being cheaper than old MCL and quite easy to play for free, I wanted to write an update now that episode 3 is out.

I have 4 accounts, two where I play with VIP and two where I play for free. Having played twice today I can say that episode 3 costs 1,190 on Thomas' route and ~1,450 for Jason's (which it seems to always be slightly more expensive due to it being an extra scene and the extra choices to unlock it). These include the cost of the outfit and the the present for Taki from Archie.

This month less time is passing between episodes releases due to slight delay with the launch of the game, so 3 weeks will have passed between episode 2 and 3 by the time it's released to all players. From our calendar this corresponds to 1,030 AP, which is almost enough to play this episode by simply cumulating APs every day.

Again, this short release is just a special case, episode 4 is going to back to a monthly release (VIP accounts have the countdown already), which from our calendar is worth 1,780 APs for free accounts and 2,480 APs for VIPs. More than enough to play episodes by logging in every day. Add to this that now f2p players are going to have guides ready by the time their release day comes... MCL has suddenly become one of the easiest game to play for free ever.

Okay, so I think I'm locked in on Devon. He seems to be the one I'm naturally vibing with the most. Which is usually how I choose my main love interests. But, that doesn't mean I won't use answer jokers in the future for other characters. I'm looking at you, Thomas.

Okay, so I am experiencing my first wait time in the game. I don't mind it, as it's a reminder of sorts to take a break from playing and maybe do something else. I could've used this during the peak MCL days. I used to plow through episodes in one sitting all the time. I'm a patient person, so it's not all that bad.

New Gen is much cheaper than old MCL

I've finally played the first episode and I'm very relieved to see that prices have been decreased quite a bit, and doing some math New Gen ends up being way cheaper than old MCL. A lot cheaper.

In old MCL we received 600 free APs every month, and each episode used to cost around 1000 APs (University Life and Love Life). Here, we receive 1,780 free APs every month. The first episode ended up costing me around 1,150 APs. Even if the following episodes are slightly more expensive, we will be able to easily play each episode for free by logging in every day.

Additionally, they really listened to the beta feedback. The AP cost has been decreased of around 50 APs for each choice. Neutral choices used to cost 40APs -> now they cost 2APs like every normal line of dialogue. Medium choices used to cost between 80 and 120 APs depending on Ysaline's personality -> now they cost ~50 APs Critical choices used to cost 150-170 depending on personality -> now they cost ~100 APs Archibald's choice used to be a critical choice and it's now a medium choice.

They also increased the number of currency we receive by logging in every day. During the beta the listing price reported that we would get 1290 AP for free and 300 additional APs with the VIP pass every month. Now we get 1,780 AP for free and 700 additional APs through the VIP subscription. (And I haven't calculated the other currencies yet but they also seem to have been increased.)

tldr: New Gen is much cheaper than old MCL and the basic game can be easily played for free.

Well, finished episode 1 and Devon is my top crush at +10. Amanda and Roy are at +5. Thomas is indifferent towards my character but hopefully, I can fix that in episode 2. Which I'm gonna have to save up AP for, because I know I don't have enough now.

Always so many rumors… 😅 Thank you for asking directly to clear things out !

Before anything, I'll just be honest and transparent. So please don't hate at me for just stating facts here : I think we can agree that almost all story based games lately do have some strict paying choices now. Even worse some games make you pay all the time for every single good answer. (And you can play for free only with the crappy ones, so never getting the good routes or pictures, and I personnaly hate that !)

So yeah every game company needs to be able to make a living out of their product, and this topic ended being a question on the table. Should we do like everyone else and make paywalled routes ?

The answer to your question is, NO. We decided it’s not what we want to propose to our players. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the game and so all routes are accessible for free, and you can still unlock the illustrations for free too. (with the good in game requirements as always)

The only thing we added in game which is new, and that can be considered "premium" are extended romance scenes that you can replay as much as you want from your gallery when unlocked. But please, also take note that all currencies in the game can still be obtained as a free player.

So from what I've played on the first day of the Beta, I really love New Gen! The AP system is something that I can see myself being able to work with. Also, the daily objectives are a good way to incorporate the job into our daily winnings.

As far as the episode goes, I enjoyed the writing of it and how everything seemed to flow nicely without feeling like an exposition dump. The characters are written like actual people and not stereotypes as well, which I love. Let me unpeal the layers as I play. I like the touch of having the illustrations hidden by having Taki paint over them with a small chibi of the character in the illustration in the bottom right. It's like Taki is the one curating the illustrations.

I think the personality system is something that adds more customization to the game. It's like every player will have a unique character as the game goes on. We're not locked into one personality.

Really that's how I'd describe New Gen giving players more control and more autonomy to build our stories. I feel like Beemoov took the parts that worked from all their games to implement them into New Gen.

You can find these in the game itself, here:

All you have to do is play an episode and when characters appear you press F12 or right-click and "inspect element" and you go to sources. Make sure to have the animations on.

Or you can also find them here. It's a folder made by a group with pretty much all the assets from the game. You can find the sprites and the live2d parts there as well. The only thing is that it's in russian, so better translate the page.
