Anime Review: Fate UBW
Alright! Let's kick off the anime part of the blog! I hope you're all having a nice day, and if you have any anime recommendations then please share them in the comments!
Now let's talk about Fate UBW! It is rare for me to enjoy animes that feature alot of combat, I find it a bit dull. Especially when the fights take multiple episodes. The franchise Fate is an exception to this.
Overview
Fate Unlimited Blade Works was a series released in October 2014, and it was based off of the visual novel Fate Stay Night. The basic premise is that 7 spirits from real or fictional history are summoned by 7 mages. The last mage - spirit team to survive will be granted an omnipotent wish. There is better terminology I could use, but let's keep this newbie friendly for now.
Main Character
The main character I find dull. Which is ironic if you watch the series. Shirou Emiya is the adopted son of Kiritsugu Emiya. Being an anime they both get called Emiya. For clarity I will use Shirou and Kiritsugu respectively. Shirou's backstory is quite straight forward. He survived a tragedy and then his dying adopted father started rambling about how he used to want to save everybody. Queue Shirou deciding to make it his personal goal to save everyone he sees. Even people who try to kill him... repeatedly. Shirou's morals provide a strong constant contrast in the series for how messed up things can get. Unfortunately this means he has minimal development and is designed to be a generic person.
I rate Shirou 5/10. He's not a bad character, he's just dull. I rated him as 5 instead of 4 due to his capacity to react to the setting as if he is clueless. Thereby becoming a guide to newer audiences
Side Characters
Literally everyone you meet is more awesome than the main character. There are various historical figures and several other mages who all develop and interact with one another.
9/10
Plot
The plot is good. There are a few twists here and there. This season was created as a good starting point to those unfamiliar with the franchise, and it is still considered one of the best pieces of media in the franchise.
When watching Fate it is important to assess it as its own peice of work. It is a world full of mages that act in weird, and sometimes horrifying, ways. But what these characters consider normal, we consider weird.
9/10
Final Rating
Truly Shirou is the fly in the ointment here. I am a massive fan of Fate, and I do think UBW is great!
8/10

My Experience In A British Performing Arts School Part 1
Yo!
What is up people staring at glowing rectangles!? I hope you have had a nice day!
Today I'm going to discuss what it was like to attend a British Performing Arts school. My experience does include some abuse, so please put down this article if that is too much for yourself. Your health is a top priority y'know?!
Alright, let's get into it! Between the age of 11 and 16 UK children are expected to attend some form of secondary education. Most people refer to this as "secondary school". I am from an area that is swamped with factories. I don't know why but my local secondary school decided to be a performing arts school (basically a school specialising in drama or music). Someone clearly saw the local community and decided to recreate a scene from Footloose or something. "Fuck yeah; let's bring music to a town of factory workers", don't get me wrong this is a great movie premise.... it's just bad in real life though.
Let's deal with the elephant on your glowing rectangle first. This school did not equip students with the tools needed to thrive in their community, and people from factory backgrounds are not able to just leave. Also encouraging a bunch of people from these backgrounds to be more creative just meant that we graffitied more, and just did some weird stuff.
Now, if you've read this far, you're probably wondering "Lyra, if you went to a performing arts school then did you study drama or music?" The answer is music. And it was the worst decision ever that almost killed me repeatedly. I'm not exaggerating. I almost died... in a school designed to teach music. Though, I will admit, I was a bit dumb during this time and kept on forgiving the person responsible only for them to repeat the action a few weeks later.
Anyhow, that is alot to read. So let's make a deal. If you stick around and follow then I'll put up a part 2!
