Mel looked at the other woman curiously. She had been exploring the capitol, having told Ace where to meet her but her curiosity getting the better of her. “You know Ace?”

As Romana quickly, ( and without warning ) pulled her friend close to her, it was clear she considered a hug  to be more than sufficient.

“ Oh, you didn’t recognise me either? I suppose I should pretend to be offended. ” She told him with a small smile. “ Is everything alright, Doctor? You seem as if something is bothering you. ”

Impossible.

No, don’t say it’s impossible, you cretin. It’s happened. You knew it was possible; you knew this wasn’t your reality. You weren’t prepared for it.

The Doctor took a couple of cautious paces forward, and then a couple more. This face didn’t do “surprised” well; he looked like a startled weasel, all mad eyes and cheekbones.

Don’t tell her. Don’t let on. And don’t gawp.

“Romana. Romanadvoratnelundar. Madam President. Fred.” He finally managed to wind his face into a grin, and bounded forward for the last few places, closing the distance. Handshake? Hug? How in all the infinite stars in creation was a reunion like this supposed to work? “To be honest, I can’t say I did either…”
