Ha, I hope so! But, really, I didn’t realize it until we started touring more often, especially in America, where I noticed that more and more women started coming to our shows. It was then that I had to confront my idea of what Ghost was supposed to become with what it actually became. Already on the first album, when the audience’s reactions to my songs were quite good, I knew that something really cool could be born from it, but it wasn’t until we went to America and I saw all these girls that I started to connect the dots and realized that maybe there was something in it that I hadn’t noticed, that I hadn’t taken into consideration before.

I won’t hide the fact that one of the inspirations behind Ghost is “The Phantom of the Opera” that I saw as a child, a very romantic spectacle, but not necessarily charged with sexual energy. But then again, my mother once took me to London to see “Cats” - and that’s just pure sex! The whole scene was filled with attractive people in tight costumes. I was thirteen and I fell in love with all the kittens one by one. So when we started playing overseas, I realized that carnality plays a big part in our performances too. I had an epiphany: since the audience has no idea what we look, we can be anyone they want. They could have imagined me as George Clooney. That wasn’t something that I had planned. At first, our image was a bit clumsy, but when I noticed what I’ve just told you about, I came up with some new ideas, such as that everyone should wear pants and move around the stage more. I’ve put more emphasis on carnality.
