I have to admit
Venting feels good. Im just frustrated. I want to proceed further with designing printed circuit boards, creating applications, materialising exciting ideas and bring people together but I can't keep walking down the same road as I have done up until now. What I mean by that is that even though the fundamental religious values of design were made clear during my years of tuition that really only gave me about 1% of the broader picture. Going into a very competitive industry with very basic understanding of successful project pipelines should be as scary as walking into a tattoo shop and asking for “define prototype deliver” on your forehead.

every day i realise that uni didn't teach me everything. that’s ok
I think learning and teaching shouldn't be confused. Quasi design lectures, overly controlled elective outcomes and lose ended briefs are bland, unproductive and destructive, purely because structure acts as a shadow chasing self taught design.
How do you attain structure? In short, there are industry standards, not only expectations.
I asked my self, What is a product description? How do I describe an artefact at different levels within the commercial and professional world? How do I manage multiple variables and assess risks and opportunities properly?
Of course you may think otherwise and hold ground by faint memories of design comedies, tragedies, and epics in the mysterious guise of elusive creative technologies lectures.
Makes me itch when simple design questions pop into mind and I can only answer them to a very basic level. I already knew that I could begin describing a product by its features and benefits but that is just the surface and unfortunately even that I had to learn that in programs outside faculty before they made an appearance in the last semester.
In about 2 clicks I found out about the British national archive with information on successful project management. So, if you have ever asked your self.. What is successful project management? or similar questions, look no further because ideate, define, prototype and refine isn't where the story begins or ends.
and I'm nice enough to share this with you because I want you to succeed and manage your projects well, at your job or in your industry. Happy New year!

What a rollercoaster, and its still going.
Took two ideas with me this semester and its been pretty splitting but in my mind theres no paintbrush with out a painting and theres no music without sport. This is how I naturally designed it to be, sport is just always much bigger.
Didn't feel as confident as I would have liked in my final submission. It was pretty manageable considering how small it was and how much was still going. I felt bummed about not presenting a working prototype but at the moment they just require too much attention to operate with out me but in saying that I actually saw value in it because of the framing. I’ve come to realise that my design work is at times the most hands on and other times I do better at it when its conceptual. Its a dance between your technological device existing and not existing and either are good.
Really think there’s value here. I’m going to bootstrap. and you know whats most interesting, this message of “believe in your self” and “take a risk when you’re young” they resonate strongly and it keeps the voices of doubt at a pretty good level. I think the mistake to make here is to not take any advice and sink head first but its even a greater mistake to say no.
Damn it I don't know if its for better or worse but the lay out change makes my life awkward and uncomfortable. A full wall panel is a lot of space and I owe to my self and what I believe in to use the space for the better, what ever that will turn out to be in the next week, so its not over.
Its not over, haha great t-shirt would go well with the one for waiting till the last minute. Anyway I think the most pressing thing here is that for the hand in i focused most of my efforts into the framing document and now i have to translate that for the wider public but not literally. The document has to become something else

After battling with the video game for days on end and not making enough progress to tick most of the rubric specs I made the decision to hand in a refined version of the board game developed in the first block. This final development adds nuances and mechanics that arose through play tests. The game board is now bigger and allows for a new diplomacy mechanic in the which players can change the rules of the game through agreements. This mechanic is the most interesting development and opens up the discourse of game design as a way to look at politics.
Formal statement discusses Aesthetics, Principles of Play, Process and Intent.

Tahaki Flags
Our final proposal before instillation lead to the elimination of all extra unnecessary elements. The angle created by the flags aims to direct towards the mount.
Active Reflection
Having since implemented these ideas and realised the installation much more has been discovered about the instillation, what it mean in relation to the land, and how we could grow on these learnings. After being installed on the Takahai Reserve we observed the symbolic dominance that ‘flags’ bring, regardless of colours, materials and symbols, there will always be a somewhat negative association with flags and the land they occupy. Interested in explore more of the effect and influence our flags may have we took one to the summit of the Mount and again observed it’s behaviour. Much windier than the reserve the flag was truly alive and from behind sat perfectly between two of Auckland monumental land marks, the Sky Tower, and Rangitoto. With the white side of the flag against the city and the red reflecting Rangitoto’s side there was a clear relationship between the two brought to the forefront of the view through the lens of the flag.

Collage Aesthetic achieved.
Now I'm more concerned with other aesthetic aspects of the game such as character design and game mechanisms. I looked to the Indiana Jones films for inspiration and realised that a whip would provide a good way to over come obstacles, interact with game objects etc.
As I beacme more interested in ancient folklore and prehistoric animals it also made sense to create game companions such as dragons, Pleistocene megafauna, Giants etc.
The computer I had built the game on became unaccessible and I found my self struggling to continue working on it on my devices due to lack of ram and outdated OS.
In order for the game to progress further I would need to continue making sprites which entails about 5 long minute of lassoo tooling in photoshop per individual sprite and then roughly 5 minutes for processing (cropping and placing again per sprite. I would spend 30 minutes to and hour focusing on sprites alone and another hour on game mechanics and characters.

First Live Mock up with Collage Aesthetic.
At this stage I still wasn't sure how to create sprites or how to implement them.
While I was mostly focused with the visual aesthetics of the the game I was also considering the narrative aesthetics. I began by naming the places and the characters. I named the setting Kehmet as in the name of the ancient city of Kehmet in the Giza plateau. I called the character Netter (the ancient name for Nature” and based the game about the character discovering how to make the “house of nature” the great pyramid functional again.

Game Aesthetics.
I began creating sprite sheets by first making my own collages.
I wanted for the aesthetic to be unfiltered. All flora and fauna. All Natural things

Not ready for manufacture but ready to be played. Design flaw?
As I compile another sketch, find a new sound make a new beat and draw a new sketch I realise just how hard it is to work for what you want. I don't want your money I want to build a culture. I don't want to sit at a computer or lose the sun inside a screen. I want to be live augmented and move freely. Wouldn't you?
Sometimes I work for hours on end and it is not that I don't prepare or do not design strategically but designing a cybernetic system at a hand scale and so far up to 40m areas meets its fair amount of soldering mistakes.
I picked this image because at first sight the system seen here looks chaotic and about as messy as every music room, garage and studio Ive ever walked into yet the simple reality is that these are the sensors which I have already measured and prepared for much larger event happening on OCTOBER 14 this was just a test.
I tried to find an industry partner in the boxing industry BOX AND RIDE but they cowered at the opportunity. On the other hand JUMP’s unrelenting support and co-design strategies are making the M GAMES SUPER-TRAMP FINAL a reality.
Thank you MAUNGAWHAU thank you Charlotte, thank you M GAMES
Play with me and give me a turn, let me make it better, let me understand why this is good for me, help me make it good for us, help me create a peace mechanism.
SUPER BOX QUALIFIERS coming in 2019
