Star gently knocked on the door to his room. Opal was still hopping up the stairs towards the room, but was trying her best.

"I believe you should eat something. It is good for you, as being human means you need to intake food and water."

Opal's a bird again. She's just hopping about the home and trying to be at least a little active.

Star is also nearby, eyes squinting as they watch their wielder.

First Meeting / Icebreakers

“Hi, I’m ______.”

“Oh fuck! Are you okay?”

“Crap! Sorry about that! Wasn’t looking where I was going. Here, I’ll get you a new jacket…”

“Need a ride?”

“How are you?”

“Seems like we’re gonna be stuck on this train for an extra three hours.”

“What’s your name?”

“Thank you.”

“You just saved my life!”

“Move the fuck out of my way.”

“Watch where you’re going!”

“Would you like anything?”

“You’re gorgeous.”

“Do I know you?”

“Uh, that’s my spot.”

“Oh, God, sorry! Let me buy you a new one.”

“Is that your dog? He is so CUTE!”

“Here, take my seat. You look tired.”

“Checking in?”

“I wouldn’t sit there if I were you.”

“This is gonna be a long plane ride.”

“Can you turn that music down?”

“People are trying to sleep!”

“I’m your new neighbour.”

“Is that who I think it is?”

“Be quiet!”

“Is that your son/daughter?”

“I’ve read about you.“

"... There is one big difference. You do need to eat and drink and perform maintenance on your body. Don't worry, I'll make sure you're comfortable."

Oh there were emotions alright. So many. At some point during the movie Opal wrapped both her arms around her key and her charge as her eyes gave off big watery tears.

"Littlefoot...." She mildly sobbed.

"There there.* Star gently patted her arm, knowing she was a bit of a bleeding heart.

Vanitas put the movie on and moved closer to her, his tail curling around his leg. It was spiky and he didn't particularly feel like hurting Opal anymore.

He was losing his bite. But if watching movies was the reward, he'd take it.

He didn't expect The Land Before Time to be such a...cutsie movie. Or an emotional one.

"Sure. We can watch that too." Opal was trying. Trying so so hard.

A wing opened up to curl just barely around Vanitas' back. Just to provide the idea that she's okay. Some kind of comfort.

At least she was willing. Just for him.

Vanitas could feel a darkness resonating from Opal, but he didn't visually acknowledge it.

"Actually, yeah. There is another movie I've been told is good. Something called 'The Land Before Time'. Ever heard of it?" he asked, looking over at Opal.

He could watch Aliens on his own time.

The pats weren't... Not helping. But this was likely some old trauma coming back out again. One she had likely buried a long time ago.

Star casually checked their phone, noting it was a little later than they probably would like.

"It is late enough that if you are tired, now would be a good bed time. However, if you want to watch another, it would be the last for the night."

Tic, Tac, and Toe took notice and began to pat her head all at once. All six hands lightly tap tap tapping on her head, like a small ritual.

But cuter.

"I think I understand why humans like these so much," he answered. "What time is it?"

"... I cannot comment." Star simply said.

Opal seemed a little greener as they spoke, claws curling in more and more on Star's chain. But if Vanitas turned around, she'd be all fake forced smiles. Her stomach hurts.

"I... I'm glad you liked the movie Vanitas." She meekly provided.

"Organs are overrated," Vanitas said.

Unconsciously, his tail emerged again, twirling around with no aim. He couldn't wag his tail. That was a lie many people believed.

His tail was used for balance, not the express of emotions.

However, in this moment, it was almost used to mimic how the alien's moved theirs.

Maybe he'd learn to hang upside down like they did.

There was nothing wrong with his other form. Opal used to make monsters that were far scarier, and besides! Vanitas was a child. A monstrous one, but still a child.

At least she could hold and hug Tic, Tac, and Toe.

"I think ... I am glad I do not have organs." Star muttered.

He nods, although his mind still is caught up on the fact that they look like him.

Sure, they were monsters, but they were cool monsters. Monsters so cool, they had multiple movies.

That means....That means his other form was cool!

Tic, Tac, and Toe were not as blind to Opal's suffering and climbed into her lap to comfort her.

Oh. Oh he's so happy despite the fact Opal is holding onto Star like a lifeline. It wasn't honestly the monster that was the scary part, though the cinematography didn't help. But the vibes! The anxiety! The enclosed spaces!

Entirely something she despised.

But despite everything.

"Y-Yes! They do remind me of you! When you're in your um. Other form?"

Vanitas doesn't say anything the entire movie. Or through any of the sequels. He is entranced.

Opal was down with watching anything. Star was admittedly nervous but....

"We'll start the first one after I finish dinner, okay?"

He shook his head. "It's like one of those films that was so popular it became a series, had some shitty sequels, got some books, and had a reboot."

He didn't grow up around other human beings, but damn did he know a thing or two about human culture. Especially their shit taste in creating soulless sequel after sequel to make money.

"It'd be so cool if it was a documentary though."
