long distances

you're off on an important mission of your own for a few days - and they miss you every second of it.

feat: luffy, zoro, sanji (monster trio) warnings: slight mention of torture + kidnapping (but not serious!)

notes: hoping to follow this up with a pt.2 for ace, sabo and law! also, the context of this may be hard to explain, but just essentially you just go away for a few days.

luffy

despite his goofy and not-so-serious demeanour, luffy is the captain, and when it comes to his crew, he will take it very seriously. be it your worries, fears, goals or ambitions, he can easily break away from his usual silliness when it matters most.

when you tell luffy you need to stop at the next island, he doesn't bombard you with questions or demand any kind of immediate explanation. he listens intently as you shine with enthusiasm, telling him there's something there you must see... but alone.

luckily, you're able to spare your dignify as luffy doesn't even give you the chance to beg for his permission. as long as you're safe, who is he to say no? the next island is pretty safe anyway, it's just a quaint little town, and you have the transponder snail on you in case of any worst case scenario.

he does trust you, and he did say yes... so why does he regret it now?

when usopp has him slapping his knee with the funniest joke of the day, he zooms up to your room to retell it to you, tears in his eyes from laughter, only to find your side empty.

at mealtimes, he's about to get on your nerves and steal some food from your plate, and accidentally steals zoro's (much to his disliking), forgetting you're not eating beside him today.

not that he doesn't trust you, he knows that you haven't run away on the crew or gotten kidnapped or something worse - but his patience is wearing thin every second he's apart from you. can't these next few days just be over already??

luckily, he remembers the transponder snail, and at any given moment, he will ring you excitedly asking all sorts of questions about the latest happenings and stories of your little mission.

"what's the food there like?" on your end, it feels like luffy is talking directly in your ear with that same level of enthusiasm and interest in his voice. "i bet it doesn't compare to sanji's!"

"it really doesn't! although it is nice," you beam, as though you were speaking to him in person. "maybe i can bring some for you when i come back!" you can hear luffy's loud burst of agreement on the other end of the line, making you laugh.

when the next few days are finally over and you rejoin the crew at the next island, before you can even step onto the pier, luffy stretches to haul you onto the ship against your will and into his arms.

"finally!" he wraps you with his rubbery arms tight, refusing to let go. "i don't know if i can let you go like that again. i missed you too much. i think i was starting to go crazy!"

normally you would scold him for suffocating hugs, but this time you don't resist, instead, you allow him to indulge in his over-the-top physical affection... because you missed it too badly. you hope he never lets you out of his sight again.

zoro

zoro doesn't see why it's a big deal - if you want to go somewhere on your own for a few days, go do what you want, make your own decisions. why should that bother him?

except it does bother him.

he's quick to fold his arms, nod, and watch as you give your goodbyes to everyone and set off, but he can't shake that feeling seeing you walk away on your own. should he have said something more than just 'see you soon'? even if you're only going for a few days...

he has no doubt of your independence and trusts that you're capable enough to protect yourself, and he knows you wouldn't hesitate to contact the crew in case of danger. yet he can't help but feel a little worried about you. just a little.

as soon as you ring on the snail, he's the first to answer before nami even gets the chance. yet she just puts her hands on her hips and smiles, walking away and 'leaving you both to it', or whatever the hell that means.

you don't normally see zoro as a worrier, but you can't miss the slight concern in his voice whenever you call, but you're kind enough not to call him out for it just yet.

"if you see any weird people, don't get any funny ideas. just get the hell out of there without starting an unnecessary fight. only defend yourself if they actually try to attack you."

"you told me this 10 times already zoro, i think i get the idea by now-"

"well, i'm just saying so in case you forget."

the way he's been talking it's as if you've wandered off to an island surrounded by boiling lava and guarded by bloodthirsty dragons.

it's not just the extra cautions he's giving, but he notices the ship is so different without you... or at least for him. your energy, your personality, and the conversations that you share together fill his mind against his will because they feel so far away now, even though they aren't. it's like a part of his daily routine is temporarily missing.

even the crew notices that he's been quieter than usual, and they won't hesitate to call him out for it.

"aww, zoro, you really must be missing-"

"usopp, shut up."

"noted."

his only option is to ignore the others until you return, but it's impossible when they're basically... everywhere he goes. the teasing is seriously getting on his nerves - as if he wasn't already on edge wondering where the hell you are and what you're doing. can you just come back already so this living nightmare can be over?

thankfully, it's only a matter of time that you return, and you're immediately swarmed with hugs and attention from the crew. however, zoro stands at the side, watching as you link arms with usopp or when luffy ruffles your hair, with no readable expression. you would be lying if you said you weren't slightly hurt at how aloof he was being after not seeing you for some time.

but when the others finally give you some much-needed space, zoro approaches you at last.

"glad to see you made it back whole," he smirks with a small hint of pride. "the others were starting to lose their heads without you."

"US?" sanji interjects. "you're one to talk, mosshead. we all saw the way you waited by the snail for y/n to call practically every hour of the day."

"shut up before i cut you into slices." zoro glares at sanji, ready to officiate him with a death sentence, ears burning, as you stifle a laugh. he has a funny way of showing he misses you, but you're certain he did.

sanji

when you tell sanji you're going away for a few days, he practically almost faints.

being apart from you for you for more than five minutes is hard enough for him. a few days... no, a week? yeah, the whole world is basically crumbling.

he would never want to get in the way of what you want for yourself, but the second you break the news to him he has to take all it has in him to remain as calm as possible... and still fails.

"sanji, don't worry, it'll only be for a few days, i'll be back before you know it!" you squeeze his arm in an attempt to comfort him as he smiles weakly for your sake.

he won't let you leave without packing plenty of meals for you - despite you insisting how you won't need it and will manage just fine on your own.

when you finally wave your goodbyes and set off, sanji can barely watch the sight. seeing your retreating back as you disappear out of sight, shrinking out of view as the ship sails away, he feels as though he will burst into tears any second. what will he do without you, even if just for a few days?

everything reminds him of you... the starry night sky you normally gaze at as you rest your chin on your palm, the mast you lean against to relax on a tiring day, your empty seat at the dining table - ouch, that one definitely stings the most.

he tries to distract himself with his cooking... but even that proves futile. it's not the same with one less mouth to feed and one less plate to fill.

he can only wonder to himself: what are you eating right now? what are you wearing today? where did you go today?

most importantly, are you safe?

he can’t help but run through every potenial worst case scenario and bad thing that could possibly happen to you while you’re away… causing him to burn through way more cigarettes packets than usual.

he needs answers. thankfully, that's where the transponder snail comes into good use. as soon as he hears it ringing, he's answering it in seconds.

"hello? it's me, guys!" hearing your voice is a kind of comfort he didn't know he needed. "anyone there? wait, let me guess... sanji, it's you, isn't it."

"i- uh, well..."

you talk for a long while - mostly consisting of him asking you all kinds of questions and fretting over your every move anxiously.

"make sure you eat all the food i made for you, okay? i mean, not all in one go, i know you won't waste it but don't force yourself-"

"sanji." you say firmly, but not out of irritation, letting out a quiet chuckle on the other end. "i'm fine, i swear. and i promise i won't leave even a crumb left."

finally after what felt like years of suffering, (it's been 7 days.), the torture comes to an end, and you return to the crew safe and sound as you meet them at the next island over. you look just as beautiful as the day you left (once again, like 7 days ago.) and run to everyone buzzing with excitement.

as you're about to reach the crew, sanji reaches you first, catching you completely off guard as he envelopes you in a sweet embrace.

"please never leave me ever again..."

"oh, wow," you say breathlessly, frozen, unsure of what to say. you feel your heart beat faster - the contact sure is a surprise, you've never been this close. did he really miss you this much? "i missed you too, sanji."

Gaza has no food - How your donations are essential in helping Gazans survive

"Gaza has no food," "At least 798 Palestinians have been killed at aid distribution point," "85% of Gaza's population have entered the 'fifth stage' of malnutrition," you have heard of all this, and I will not go into detail. In response to this, I have heard a lot of people asking - some out of genuine concern, others as an excuse not to help - "If Gaza has no food, how will donating to individual families help?"

But your donations do help Gazans get food, and it is now more important than ever. Here is how (information provided by my friend Ibrahim (@aburakhiaibrahim) (help him here)):

Official aid is severely restricted as Israel has forbid food supplies from entering Gaza. Aid is funneled through the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," which is infamous for their daily massacres of Palestinians.

Some markets in Gaza still have some food, here is where food from the markets come from:

Aid from GHF. Some people are selling aid for an exorbitant price

Food produce from Gaza's farmlands. This constitutes 10% of Gaza's vegetable supply. Again, they are sold at a really high price.

This is all the food left in Gaza.

There are grassroot efforts sourcing food and distributing aid as well, but distribution relies on personal networks. Hence, depending on the location and access, some people receive nothing at all.

This is the food your donations enable Ibrahim's family to purchase. These are all the food items left for 28 people! 28 PEOPLE!!! These supplies are not enough for even a meal for 28 people, yet this is all they have left! As a result, Ibrahim and his family are heavily rationing their food, and they have not eaten anything for 5 days!

luffy

luffy is thrilled to find someone who is like him in every way. his personality is so unpredictable and unique, a guy like him being hard to find. it stuns him just how perfectly you're able to match his energy!

like luffy, you never hesitate to speak out whatever is on your mind at any given moment, much to the shock (and sometimes annoyance) of others. your blunt honesty (combined with luffy's) often results in hilarious moments that often can get you both into trouble.

much like the gluttonous captain, you also have a never-ending appetite, giving luffy competition at the dinner table. you both wolf down food at such speed that chopper has to urge you to calm down for your own health and safety. at mealtimes, it's a race between you and luffy at the dinner table. and of course, sanji has to work twice as hard now (the poor fella).

luffy's goofy and unserious demeanour is reciprocated with your own, as you both are constantly laughing together at even the silliest of things. he appreciates how you have the same sense of humour and never fail to crack a joke at the right moment, often without meaning to, and that you don't take life too seriously.

zoro

zoro is stunned at how you share so many similarities with him; he has to hide that he secretly enjoys having someone who understands him and how he operates.

by now, the crew are accustomed to zoro's endless napping, however he wasn't aware you also shared this same habit. he was surprised one afternoon when he was about to retreat to his usual napping spot against the ship railing, only to find you had beat him to it. the first few times, he was admittedly a little annoyed, but after, he was impressed.

just like zoro, you share his tendency to get lost almost anywhere. he couldn't miss how your eyebrows furrowed trying to understand a map, or how you often confused your lefts and rights. well, not that he could particularly tell the difference himself - but at least he wasn't the only one now.

when it comes to drinking, you're the perfect match for zoro - which he doesn't mind as he does love a bit of healthy competition. he's surprised to see you outdrink almost everyone in the crew, often leaving you two the last ones not fully wasted after a party. some nights end with you both talking over drinks at the table surrounded by bottles and shot glasses.

your strong, reserved and aloof nature is just like zoro's, which unsettles him initially, because just can't believe how much your personality mirrors his own. he takes careful notice to how you prefer showing your care through actions rather than words - a type of love language he fully understands.

sanji

sanji is amazed at how alike you both are - like two peas in a pod. he loves that he has someone who is like a mirror of him in the best ways, it's really fun!

sanji is surprised to find that you are a huge flirt, just like him. you have no issues walking up to someone you find attractive and shooting your shot (although you are much more successful than him in that area). your flirty and amorous personality also causes you to frequently flirt with him instead of him with you... which he definitely isn't against.

unfortunately, you do have a bit of a smoking habit yourself just like sanji. sanji doesn't worry about himself because for whatever bizarre reason, it seems to never affect his health, but he can't help but fret over you when he sees you take out a cigarette. although, since you smoke yourself, you'll light his cigarette for him from time to time and he'd be lying if he said he didn't like it.

like sanji, you happen to also be a good cook, which has him swooning over you as it means you're the perfect partner to help in the kitchen. although you may not be at the same skill level as him, he's always open to your ideas and suggestions on food, and he indulges that he finally has someone who he can cook with.

above all, your kind-hearted and caring personality matches that of sanji's - he can't miss how you care deeply about the crew and would go above and beyond for their happiness, including his, and it never fails to warm his heart.

ace

seeing how much in common you have with ace is the best feeling - it feels like having an inseparable best friend and lover at the same time.

you're a little narcoleptic like ace is - falling asleep without control unpredictably. however, he's always at your side every time to make sure you're alright and safe from harm since it happens to him just as much.

like ace, you're very well-mannered. he can't help but notice the similarity between you both with how you treat others. you always remain polite and respectful, never missing a 'thank you', after a favour of any kind, and you're always quick to apologise after an accident or mistake. and aside from that, your etiquette is near next to perfect.

despite this, ace admires just how assertive (and even stubborn) you can be like him, especially when it comes to your friends or family. you never hesitate to stand up to anybody who threatens or insults the people you care for, and it makes him smile as he sees a little of himself in you.

law

this is exactly what law's wanted. finally he won't have to worry about someone bothering him or being a nuisance since you fully understand how that can be.

like law, you have a natural curiosity and desire to learn about the unknown. although he has his own goals and you have yours, you both want to uncover truth hiding behind mystery and won't stop until you find answers, especially when it comes to your identity and who you are.

he appreciates your intelligence and perceptiveness which he also shares, as not only does it prove useful in tough situations, but also that he's found someone who thinks in the same way he does. you approach conflict or fights using your intellect and don't rush into things without thinking them through. when putting your heads together, he's much easily able to think of a solution to a problem.

notes: sorry for being so inactive :( i've had so many events going on + college assignments! i wanted to include ace and law but i was struggling to think of a funny prank for them, maybe they'll get their own fic!

luffy

"WHERE IS IT??" you almost fall back from where you're standing on the desk after hearing luffy's outcry coming from the kitchen. the doors of the galley burst open, and you see him standing like a crazed, starved animal.

sanji follows from behind, rolling his eyes at luffy's erratic behaviour. "for the last time luffy, i already told you i left it in the oven and saw nobody touch it."

you swallow a laugh seeing the commotion happening in front of you. "what's going on?" you see luffy storming off to assumably zoro or usopp, yelling "MEAT!!" like a madman.

sanji folds his arms at the sight. "yeah, he's been like that for the past 10 minutes. i don't know where his stupid meat went. can food just vanish out of thin air now? because i doubt even the mosshead would dare to take the captain's food."

suddenly you bend forward in a fit of laughter as you grip your tummy, leaving sanji visibly confused as if a question mark just formed above his head.

"i know this sounds bad but..." you say in between laughs. "it was me. i ate the meat. i thought it would be funny but..."

"now you're scared for your life?" sanji turns to see luffy attempting to chew on a deckchair.

"pretty much..." you forcibly compose yourself as luffy walks past to avoid drawing suspicion. "what have i done? sanji, he'll kill me if he finds out."

"don't worry, i won't tell," sanji takes out a cigarette from his pocket. "i can cover for you. somehow. well, more like i'll just cook some more so he forgets about the whole thing."

zoro

you've been watching zoro like a hawk for the past 10 minutes as he sleeps soundly against the ship railing. how does he not move even a muscle? it's actually quite impressive.

as you rest your chin your knee, luffy then blocks your view with a big sheet of paper right in front of you.

"hey, what's this for?" you push it out of your face with a hint of annoyance.

luffy waves colouring pens around in his other hand then points at the paper. "it's my drawing of zoro sleeping. accurate, right?"

you nod slowly in agreement even though really doesn't. luffy shrugs and turns to walk over to zoro. he pops the lid off of one of the markers and starts giggling as he brings it close to zoro's face.

"what're you doing?" you whisper, trying not to be too loud.

"i'm drawing," luffy chuckles. before you can question him further, he rolls a pen in your direction across the floor so that it touches your hand. you both exchange looks of mischief as you stifle laughter.

an hour later, you're helping sanji set the table while a hungry luffy is already sitting down to eat, banging his cutlery on the table excitedly. as sanji is about to scold him, the peace of the room is immediately shattered as the door flies open, almost falling off its hinges.

"SHITTY COOK!! WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FACE?" zoro stands, eyes blazing at sanji. everyone can't miss the stupidly drawn moustache on his face and the swirly eyebrow that mirrors sanji's.

"hey, THAT WASN'T ME," sanji immediately protests. "WHY WOULD I WANT TO PUT MY FEATURES ON YOUR STUPID FACE?"

you struggle to not burst out laughing, meanwhile luffy is practically smacking the table, guffawing loudly.

"guys, wait," you swallow hard. "it was actually-" before you can own up zoro and sanji are already going at it again.

sanji

it should be easy to prank sanji, right? when you look in his direction, it's immediate heart eyes and swooning, meaning you could get away with just about anything right under his nose. but you decide to do things a little differently.

seated at the dining table, sanji makes his way over to you with a plate in his hand, setting it down with exaggerated enthusiasm and elation. it's a small cake decorated with a heart in the centre.

"for you my dear, i tried something new and i want you to have the first taste," he faces you with hearts in his eyes.

"thank you," you smile as he offers you a small spoon to eat with. taking a bite, it's super delicious - just as expected. but you can't let it show in your face just yet.

sanji is quick to notice your lack of excitement at the food. "oh? what's wrong? do you not like it?"

inside, you're hesitant, but you pause for added drama, setting your spoon down on the plate. "i don't like it..."

"oh... i see then..." his smile falls a bit as he lowers his head slightly. you can't keep joking for even a second longer. as he's about to take the plate back you stop his hand.

"...i love it!" you beam at him and you see him let out a sigh of relief. chuckling, you squeeze his hand. "i'm sorry, i was just teasing, i promise! i just couldn't keep up the act, i felt so bad seeing you look so disappointed."

"thank goodness," he relaxed, sitting down across from you. "i was already thinking of 100 different ways to make it better."

you laugh, picking up your spoon again. "you should know i was kidding, right? i don't think i could ever dislike something you've made. and even if i did, i would still finish it all."

ok not to talk more about franky but. he went to try and stop the sea train expecting to die. he knew his weapons would never stop the train, nor could his hands. because his hands helped build it. his, tom's, iceburg's. it was built to withstand sea kings. storms. attacks. of course he couldn't stop it. but he still tried. he still stood there in the face of their own creation that was bringing tom to his death. despite dreaming of being like tom, of building a wonderful ship that would reach the ends of the earth, he offered his life in retribution. the train broke him apart. it tore his muscles, it snapped his bones, it ripped his flesh. but he lived. and he chose to rebuild his body with metal and call himself battle franky 36. a weapon no one could control except him. something something the first thing he created after vowing not to build ships was himself. I wonder how he felt being taken away to ennies lobby in the same way tom was. if it was finally fate coming to collect. instead it was a new beginning and the "death" of his life in the shadows
