When you think about it, those first seven people who started the tournament really went wild with their assumptions about the Landmarks, Relics, and how future generations of their families would behave. Just creating the curse like "obviously only seven types of champions will play this game: evil, sketchy, loser, egotistical, hero, engineer, and pacifist"

Trying to get back in the headspace for blood before all so I can finally finish these last chapters! Send me a number and some AouV characters, and I’ll write a short one shot to warm up for the rest of this fic :)
angst/whump dialogue prompts
“what the fuck did they do to you?”
“you always ‘forget’ when it’s most convenient for you!”
“your arm looks…weird.”
“wait, where are you going?”
“oh my god, there’s so much blood.”
“i never want to see you again.”
“i’m fine! i swear!”
“sorry doesn’t fix it, you know.”
“i think i’m gonna pass out.”
“you trusted me?”
“are you sure you’re ok?”
“you’ve changed. a lot.”
“show me your leg. now!”
“why should i care if you die?”
“i can’t see, there’s blood in my eyes.”
“i thought you cared about me!”
“holy shit, your face!”
“oh, i deserve way better than you.”
“wait. what happened?”
“you used to tell me anything.”

I’m alive!!
Life has been crazy and I haven’t been active on Tumblr for a while, but I’m slowly getting back to fanfic and trying to catch up on my ever-increasing list of projects. Hoping to be a lot more active on here in the coming weeks!
Side note: I have been so focused on writing Blood Before All that I’m legit struggling to remember which events happened in canon and which were in my fic. This is a problem

hi :> are there any characters from other media you think would thrive in the aouv world?
hi!!
i feel like lila bard from the shades of magic series would be pretty chill with the aouv world. she'd be like, i can control magick with just rings on my fingers? sick. plus if she ran out of spellrings she would pull out her many knives and just solve her problems that way.
idk if anyone has seen the tv show leverage, but sophie devereaux would be perfect in the tournament (if she was a lot younger ofc). she's a grifter and would be perfect at forming alliances and convincing ppl not to betray her/betraying others so cleverly that they don't realize they're walking into a trap.
also i recently finished reading the priory of the orange tree and i think ead would thrive in the aouv universe! niclays would be the exact opposite and it would be so funny. he would be grumbling next to the spellmaking society about the youths and getting pissed off abt the blood moon affecting his daily routine.

hellooooo! sorry its been a while, shits just been crazy. anyways I have another mundane question for you :
who would your fancasts for aouv be?
literally do not apologize abt it being a while, you have no idea. hope everything is going good <3
ahh man i am not good with fancasts unfortunately. when i read books i have a super vivid image of the characters in my head, which means i get very picky about trying to match that image to a real-life actor. actually seeing actors in context in an adaptation is different, but i've never been great at putting together fancasts.
so i'll put this out for everyone else to weigh in on! do any of y'all have fancasts for the cast of aouv? reblog with your ideas or send me some more asks, i will hopefully answer them in a reasonable time frame and we can figure out who should play these characters

Boo! hows life going?
Also, what do you think about the relationships between the landmarks and their owners, as well as how connected the landmarks are to their root families? BECAUSE OH MAN
anyways, peace out and have a great life :)
hiii sorry i'm only getting to this ask like a month after you sent it, i started college and have been insanely busy and not checking tumblr. but life is going really well and i'm excited to see what's ahead :)
oooh this is a really interesting question! i'm gonna break it into two parts bc i have a lot to say about both.
the landmarks + their owners
ok so the cottage is obviously the landmark that changes the most depending on its residents. we see it deteriorating when alistair and gavin argue, and it gets a bit nicer when they start to get along. of all the landmarks, it's the most like a home and it tries to reflect that. in comparison, the cave (the other landmark that alistair claimed) really didn't change after initially tailoring itself to his preferences. it was pretty static, cold, and not homelike at all. it's a major contrast between the temporary place he stays at with isobel and the homey cottage that he lives in with gavin and the family he has left.
the tower seems to be somewhere in between. it's not falling to pieces when the champions argue, which is a good thing, but it does seem to be nicer and have more furniture when they start collaborating better. then again, the tower isn't meant to be an especially comforting place. it's more meant for strategy. i think it suits briony pretty well.
as for the castle, it's uncomfortable by design. gavin doesn't legitimately enjoy the stuffy decor and intimidating architecture, he likes it bc it's impressive and it's a status symbol. he doesn't need it to tailor itself to his personal likes/dislikes as long as it shows the world that the grieve champion claimed the castle.
tbh the book makes it really unclear who claimed the monastery in aouv, but i'm 90% sure it's elionor. i have no strong opinions about the relationship between elionor and the monastery, if this is true. the authors didn't give us much to go by with this one i'm afraid :(
the landmarks + their families
i think it’s interesting how it’s obvious which landmark is associated with which family even when it really doesn’t line up on the individual level. like how the castle is unambiguously the lowe landmark, but alistair doesn’t want to touch it, primarily for that very reason. like how the crypt is the traditional macaslan landmark but isobel only goes there out of necessity, and hates it the whole time. meanwhile the tower is the traditional thorburn landmark and briony claims it proudly even while her family is in shambles.
in that line of thinking, why is the tower the thorburn landmark, when they're traditionally thought of as the town's heroes? i mean, just think abt the blair story and it sounds way more heroic, with the stereotypical sword in the stone kind of thing and slaying a dragon in a cave. food for thought, isn't it, that for all they insist they're the heroes, their original story doesn't even line up with that narrative.
i think ultimately, the main takeaway from each landmark is a reflection of the most detrimental flaw for each family they're associated with. the darrows hide from a fight, the paynes don't prepare for one, the blairs are too caught up in the narrative they're telling, the grieves are too soft, the macaslans are too sneaky, the lowes are too dramatically evil, and the thorburns look at the world like a chessboard from their spot in the clouds.
#all of us villains#all of our demise#amanda foody#c. l. herman#aouv#aood#either i'm a genius or a rambling idiot with the last paragraph#i am admittedly a little high#but i feel bad for not responding for so long :(#super interesting question btw!#ask

i love your aouv fics! what got you into ficwriting?
thank you so much!! i actually started writing fic several years ago and it all began with me getting pissed off abt something in my beloved first fandom lmao.
so when i was just getting into online fandom, i was really into this one ya fantasy series and waiting for the last book to come out. there was this big cliffhanger abt one person in a group being a traitor, and it was IMMENSELY obvious to me who it was. all the clues were right there. it was so clearly this one guy. i scrutinized these books and developed theories and it was 100% this guy. (i was right, though it turns out the guy was getting possessed and not doing it of his own accord, though this bit isn't relevant)
in trying to prove this theory, i saw something on the author's website abt this guy in a character list that said he was rumored to be the son of a major character in the prequel series. which would be HUGE news, like that's a major fucking development, and the books say literally nothing abt this rumor. it's never mentioned. i thought, "wow! the last book is gonna have such a wild plot twist regarding this guy and his father when it comes out"
and then it didn't. they got into the fact that he was the traitor, then revealed that he was being possessed, then dealt with that storyline and never once alluded to the fact that he was the other guy's son or even that he could be. what the fuck. why would the author bring it up if it's never discussed or hinted at in the story. it would be SO much better to mention it bc it would add a lot of complexity and moral dilemmas to the last book (bc when the guy betrays everyone, his "father" has to fight against him - not as big of a deal if you never discuss the fact that it could be his father!). i was deeply bitter abt this. also a lot of things were written really clumsy in the last book, and i just had a lot of Thoughts about it.
so i wrote my first fanfic of how i would've written the storyline for this guy if it had been up to me. i never published it, and i don't even have a copy anymore, but it's what got me into writing fanfic and from there i got more involved in online fandom. nowadays my life is really busy irl but i'm trying to make more time for writing even if i'm not as active on tumblr.
thanks for bearing with me through my rambles! this is just a funny story that i felt like telling, but i'm so glad that you like my aouv fics and i hope to have more to share with you soon :)

heloooo! hows life? and also, what jobs do you think the aouv crew would have?
Hello!! I'm so so sorry it took me this long to get around to answering, I started it and then promptly forgot it in my drafts for a really long time :/ This is a fun question to think about!
Alistair - I've seen people on here talking about how Alistair would be a writer post-canon, and I agree wholeheartedly. He's a natural storyteller and I think he would love the chance to channel that creativity without terrifying himself in the process. Also, the relative anonymity and privacy would be good for him in the aftermath of the tournament.
Isobel - Let my girl follow her dreams of going to fashion school! I think she'd be incredible at it and the deviation from the Macaslan "jobs" and spellmaking she's expected to follow would be good for her. Many years in the future, her designs become famous, which is perhaps the biggest fuck-you to Cormac (ppl hear Macaslan and they don't think of the "family business" anymore)
Gavin - He goes through a series of temporary jobs until Fergus is an adult so he can keep a roof above their heads, then once Fergus leaves Ilvernath for university he kind of flounders a bit. Eventually Gavin ends up leaving the city as well and gets a good job in land surveying—something with a physical, hands-on element that still requires a lot of intelligence and precision.
Briony - Everyone expects her to pursue politics or some other profession with a lot of publicity, but Briony surprises everyone by becoming an attorney. She'll never let go of her desire to help and save people, but she doesn't want to be associated with the Thorburns (minus Innes) anymore, and she's become less obsessed with the idea of being a hero. She gains a reputation for being a fierce advocate for her clients against injustice.
Finley - ???? Part of the reason why it took me so long to get to this ask was because I have no fucking clue what job Finley would have. This may be partially due to the fact that I am 100% convinced this poor boy will have the worst case of burnout post-canon that leads to several breakdowns. I also think he'll feel very aimless, because so much of his life has been about living up to expectations. Please chime in if anyone has ideas about what Finley would end up doing with his life, because I'm getting very hung up on the inevitable mental health issues in his immediate future.
Elionor - She becomes an engineer and specializes in integrating magick with otherwise mechanical designs. She barely makes it through her internship because of her attitude, but she becomes known for her creative and innovative work.
Carbry - Carbry becomes a professor. What better way to make a life out of learning, and bestowing it upon others? He does a lot of hands on research focusing on the history of curses and other magickal occurrences.
Hendry - For a while, Hendry isn't sure what he wants to do with his life, especially since he's never had any of the normal experiences that he's heard about up until this point. He encourages Alistair to pursue writing and tries out a few different paths before opening up a small indie bakery. He gets a few opportunities to expand but never takes them because he wants to keep it a warm, homelike setting where you can taste the love that went into every pastry.
Reid - Reid never writes another book. He keeps the MacTavish shop running, but years down the line, he moves more into the research aspect of cursemaking and develops some theories that he handles more responsibly than his previous experiments. Some of them get studied academically and developed into modern cursemaking/breaking advancements.
Diya - Of course I had to include her :) Diya rightfully tells the spellmaking society to fuck off and starts to do her own thing. Ten years down the line and she's known throughout Kendalle for being one of the best magickal fixers.
Thanks for the ask :) Please don't let the excruciating amount of time it took me to respond dissuade you from sending me more lmao, I love to talk about this series and my schedule seems to be a bit less hectic for the time being!

Well the good news is that my writer’s block seems to have almost completely resolved itself and I’m already making good progress on the next chapter of Blood Before All, the other news is that holy shit this is dark and Alistair’s subconscious is a horrifying place
#all of us villains#all of our demise#fanfic#personal#i say this but his subconscious isn’t even the focus of this chapter#perhaps i will write some fluff after this. to preserve my sanity.
