Social media helps to spread awareness of political, racial and social justice causes, across the globe like wildfire. It provides these causes with both allies and antagonists.

Black Twitter Insight

As an active participant in “Black Twitter”, it has been interesting to see over the years things that were seen as unsavory or uncultured in non-Black cultures become ingrained into the mainstream culture and seen as acceptable in non-Black spaces.

However, Black Twitter has also shown the country and the rest of the world how creative, intelligent, determined, inspiring and insightful we are as Black people, and as humans.

Let’s just hope that the same outsiders we allow into our world, use our language, slang and vernacular for news articles and product marketing, allow us the same grace when we continue to request our due time in the limelight, as well as opportunities outside of the usual “urban” aspects.

After all, we aren’t a monolith as a people. We have a variety of different interests, viewpoints and ideas, just like any other cultural and racial groups. And we deserve to be heard as well.

Trolls bringing their ridiculous actions and attitudes to online spaces are nuisances and need to find better ways to expend that energy to garner proper attention, instead of being annoyances.
