Partying in an Empty Pool with David Henrie

I really appreciate the opportunity to visit LA and party for a good cause with some great people. David Henrie and his cousins were welcoming and fun. I also admire George, the founder of DigDeep for starting up this non-profit. I too would like to change the way people think about water. 

Everyone at the empty pool party was fun to be around. We drank cocktails made from recycled pool water, ate vegan tacos, chips and ice cream, listened to live music, added our own flare to a mural done by a local artist, and of course partied in an empty pool.

The Best London Trip Ever with One Direction!

We had an amazing trip and we girls are bummed to be home while Mom is thankful. We made sure to make the absolute most out of being in London. The first day we saw lots! We went and saw Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, ate in a park, rode the London Eye, and just explored. Concert day was also jam-packed. We went to Regent’s Park and ate scones and tea and then had a fun time at the zoo. 

Afterwards we ran to the shopping mall for some last-minute concert attire and we were rushing so much! Luckily we got all dolled up and made it to the concert. 

Goodness, the concert was the best part of the whole entire trip. We were a bit frazzled and confused, but luckily we got to where we needed to be. And that meant we got to meet the boys, and what a time it was! Me and Lyndsey keep beating ourselves up for not saying certain things and blah, but it's something we'll never forget. I'm incredibly happy that I was able to hug them all and make them laugh, even though Mom got a kiss! After we got our picture and our moment we went back out to enjoy the amazing concert. You can imagine we stayed up late that night from excitement. 

On Sunday, we spent the day exploring the Harry Potter Studio Tour and the rest of the night once again at the O2. 

On Monday morning, we were up and unfortunately ready to go, though that didn't exactly happen because we missed our plane. But on the bright side we got another night in London. And of course that meant we bought nosebleed One Direction concert tickets and spent our last night with the boys again. 

Overall it was a splendid trip and we loved every moment of it. We can never repay y'all for what you have done for us, so thank you, thank you, thank you!

Prizeo Donation Leads Entrepreneur to Life-Changing Venture

Last October, I found myself taking the long flight to Washington, DC to have lunch with one of my idols, Steve Case. The events that lead to this meeting seemed pretty far-fetched and yet, here I was, getting ready to sit across the table from someone whom I admired and would not otherwise have had access to. 

A few months previously, I received an email from Prizeo about donating to UP Global. Considering the number of emails I receive and delete without reading, the fact that I opened it in itself was surprising. 

Because I really believe in UP Global’s mission, their dedication to supporting up- and-coming entrepreneurs, and my own involvement in several of their Startup Weekends, I was super happy to give back to them. The email stated that one person would be chosen from the pool of contributors to have lunch with Steve Case. I pressed send and, after a while, I forgot about the donation.

A few weeks later, I received an email that announced me as the randomly chosen winner to have lunch with Steve Case. I couldn’t believe it! I was in the early stages of formulating my new startup – IdeaMarket. I realized that I could use this meeting to ask Steve specific questions on leadership, get feedback on what we were up to and learn about his entrepreneurial journey. 

To prepare for the meeting, I watched over 40 hours of video and audio interviews with him and read countless articles all the while taking copious notes. I want to extract the most value from the meeting and did not want to ask questions that Steve might have already addressed. 

So there I was, waiting for Steve Case in the lobby. When he greeted me, I felt like I’d reunited with an old friend. We fell into great conversation right away. Our rapport was fantastic and we built on each other’s ideas, while I learned so much from him. He shared with me his principles of leadership and other concepts which continue to inform my work in my company and in my personal life. 

When he asked me about my startup, I explained what we do and also that I wasn’t there to pitch. My main goal was to learn what I could in the time we had together. What was really meaningful to me was I could tell how much he enjoyed contributing to me and other entrepreneurs. He had such a giving spirit. 

Before I knew it, lunch was over. Before saying goodbye, we exchanged emails and he offered to mentor me. I left elated. Our meeting exceeded my expectations and perhaps his, too. 

Later that day, I was visiting the Lincoln Memorial with my wife, feeling grateful for the experience and thinking about what I would include in my thank you email to Steve. After reading both of the speeches inscribed on the walls at the memorial, I was feeling inspired. There was a moment while standing at the top of the steps looking at the reflecting pool that I realized that this was the place where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous speech. This was the place where the famous scene from the movie “Forrest Gump” was filmed, a movie that I watched almost 20 years ago while growing up in India. It all felt too surreal. 

I sat down by the stairs, to check my phone and saw that Steve had emailed me his interest in not only mentoring me but investing in my company. Things simply were getting better and better! The great part was that I just kept going with the flow without any expectations, and what ended up happening was better than my dreams.

Thanks to reading that email from Prizeo, I was able to give back. I am grateful to Prizeo, first, for giving me the opportunity to contribute, and second, for the bonus experience of gaining a new and valued ally. What came from a simple donation was a life-changing experience. I am grateful that I am in some small way involved in helping a big influencer like Steve Case make more of an impact on the world. 

Steve Case has kept in touch with Vj and has continued to provide mentorship. His thoughts on leadership have been immensely helpful in shaping IdeaMarket. 

IdeaMarket is currently focusing their efforts on creating a company through a challenge in Detroit. The Detroit Transportation Challenge is a call to entrepreneurs, engineers, designers and other creative thinkers to produce an innovative solution that significantly improves transportation in Detroit. The winning team will win up to $250,000 in funding and mentoring and will be established as a new company in Detroit, with the help of IdeaMarket. Prizeo Winner Vanessa Played Hacky Sack with R5!

I had an amazing time with the boys and Rydel. They were all amazingly nice, generous and SUPER FUNNY!!! They treated me like a friend and not like a fan which I was so happy about and looking forward to. 

We met the band and took our standard pictures like I was at a meet and greet. Than I was taken by the band personally backstage. Then we split up and Ross was our tour guide. 

He showed us around, then we went outside and they taught me the rules and how to play hacky sack. We laughed and talked and played together for a good 30 minutes. I was so fortunate to take this trip and would do it again in a heart beat. 

Thank you Prizeo so much for this gift and I will keep these memories forever. :)

Alexandra’s VIP Day with Shawn Mendes

Shawn was really nice. His concert was AMAZING!!! 

I had a great time in Los Angeles. It was my first time ever being in California, and my first time ever seeing Shawn perform. When we got to LA we went to our hotel and later that day took a tour around Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Los Angeles. 

Sunday was the day of his concert and the day I met him. I got there early that day and he performed a private acoustic performance for the VIPs. It was really cool because not that many people were there. After his performance I was able to meet him and make a Vine. He was very nice. It was so awesome to see him in person. After that I was able to go backstage and take a tour. It was so cool to see how they were setting things up for his first live show! I found out that he had won a Teen Choice Award, and Life of The Party went platinum all on that day! 

Eventually, the concert started and he began to sing. My seats were so good; I could see everything. During his concert he performed two new songs. I thought it was so awesome that I was able to be at his live concert and see him sing two new songs for the first time! The concert ended and I was kind of sad to go back to the hotel. 

The next morning I went to the beach and I got to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time! A few hours later we were back on a plane flying home. It felt like the trip went so fast and I couldn't believe it was over. It was really sad to leave LA, and also sad because school started the next day. I had such a great time in California. 

The best part about the trip was meeting Shawn and being able to see him perform. I'm so happy I won; it was definitely something I will never forget!

A Fun Day with Zoella and a Surprise Guest!

Meeting Zoella was a dream come true! It was amazing; we had such a fun time!

Words cannot even explain how excited I was to meet Zoe! We went to a lovely breakfast place called "Bills." it was amazing and Alfie Deyes (aka pointlessblog) showed up as a surprise! (It was a great surprise!) We got to talk about so much and learn a lot about one another. 

We then went to a photo booth which was so fun! 

Overall it was an amazing day, so thank you Trekstock & Prizeo!
