or it’s just hurt as hell already

I used to read other peoples quotes that talked about slowly moving on without really realising it. How they’d be okay a lot of the time but every once in a while, something would remind them of the person they’d lost and bring back all the emotion in a single jarring moment. At the time I was reading those quotes I was in constant pain. It just hurt … all of the time… every day. It never stopped. I honestly didn’t think I would ever get to that point - to be okay a lot of the time and only have reminders set me off. But you know what? It’s happened to me. It took a long time - it’s been 2 and a half years - but I can honestly say that I don't live in that constant agonising pain any more. I dont cry every single day any more. I know now what it was they were all talking about. It’s like when you ask someone about something they used to be deeply upset about - so much so that they could never even talk about it without breaking down - but now they just sort of … “shrug”. It’s not that it doesn’t bother them anymore - they’re still hurt by it all - but they’ve adapted… changed… grown accustomed to it you might say. That’s what it’s like now a lot of the time. Like living in a constant state of shrug…. Endless days of a ‘Whatever. I can’t change anything so I may as well not think about it’ attitude ….. Until I’m forced to think about it. Until something unexpected comes along and reminds me of you. And then…. oh G_d how it hurts
