i think that we should stop normalizing telling your best friend/partner EVERYTHING people say. people will talk shit about your closest friends and of course you tell them about that. but personally, i think that if someone else tells you something that is very personal to them, and asks you not to tell anyone, even your closest relationships shouldn't be exempt from that request. no, your best friend doesn't need to know personal details about someone else, because guess what? if that person wanted you AND your friend/partner to know that information, then they would've told you both. but they didn't, so why is it so normal to share that information with someone just because you're close?

no matter what "two peas in a pod" friendship metaphor comes up, no one is an extension of anyone else and you don't have to know every piece of information the other knows. it makes it very hard for me to tell things to some of my friends because i cant help but wonder if what i'm telling them is going to just them, or them and their best friend, and their best friends close friends and...

it's exhausting. if you tell someone that you wont share their personal information, don't.
