The chemistry is ridiculous even tho there is nothing soft about their interactions.

I do wonder why he has such pointed loathing for her profession. He is portrayed as an ambitious, ruthless man who doesn't care for the truth when falsehood can help him achieve goals (he is NOT making it out of this drama alive, censors won't let him) but the loathing feels personal - not towards her but towards what she does for a living. And I wonder why.

Yup, he has no interest in investigating.

The thing that struck me here is she knows him. I mean, she seems to know his entire backstory (and it's shown even more starkly in the court scene) and I wonder how/why. Did she study him as part of her revenge plans - as someone she wants to use? a target of her revenge? a kid she knew in the past? I love not knowing.

Is anyone in this drama not have a truly horrific backstory? The little glimpses we get is horror central - parents dying in a fire, and I think he and his brother fighting in that arena? Ugh. (But also, how does she know? She clearly knew before her little hypnosis stunt.)

And then he comes to and realize he may have revealed his deepest trauma/issues/etc...

And the empress asks what she saw and her answer...

And the way he's terrified she will reveal and she shows him that she knows exactly what he hates...

But she mouths to him the truth and then lies to the empress it's a love affair that didn't work out. And he lies that this is the truth. Hello, now you are co-conspirators.

They are both 100% dead at the end of this narrative but pls pls pls PLS give me a make out before inevitable doooooom.
