Inspired by some specific art pieces, and This post: I was gripped by an Au for Legends Arceus, as well as @sincerely-sofie's au.

That being that Dawn is a Hisuian Zoroark.

When Dawn gets banished from Jubilife Village, she ends up trapped in a snowstorm. Despite her Typhlosion's best efforts, she passes in the night.

She wakes up as a Hisuian Zoroark. It's not at all a fun time, given that she sees her own dead body.

She's able to hide this fact from everyone thanks to her illusions. Nobody can know what she is.

During her final battle with Volo, she drops the illusion to fight personally.

She begs to the few people who saw her (besides Volo) to not tell anyone what she is. They can't know. Nobody should know.

Eventually, she's brought back to the present. Nobody alive (to her knowledge) knows about her. They can't know. She's an extinct subspecies of an already illusive species. What would happen to her if they did?

She has to pretend that she doesn't understand any Pokemon. Because then they could indicate what she is to their trainers. And then they can't know because they would tell everyone and-

Barry, Rowan, Her own mom. None of them can know. They don't deserve to know what kind of monster she is.

She gives up her champion title. It's too risky.

She releases her Pokemon. They refuse to leave her despite everything. Despite the fact that they don't deserve to be weighed down by someone like her.

Nobody knows what she is. And she hopes it stays that way.
