uh hi,

I know we relatively keep it pretty light here, but I just have to get this off my chest.. so here we go I guess.

My name is Clarissa, and I’m an Infectious Disease Care Nurse. I graduated high school at 17, went straight into college to graduate in 2019, and start my job in February 2020. I never expected to be sucked into the middle of a pandemic, but if we are being honest, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

I work 12 hours a day, sometimes more, supporting my doctors in the best way I can. Recently, things with COVID have hit an all time high in my state, with more hospitalizations than we had in the summer, and we are currently at 1 in 5 people being infected-symptomatic or not. We are up at the top with some other states in the US. Things are ramping right back up, and soon, we will be at the all time high, and I don’t even want to think about the mortality rate.

I really just want to urge people as we get closer to the holidays to take the necessary precautions. I saw a post on Facebook earlier today, and it took everything I had not to have a goddamn stroke reading it. That post said something along the lines of, “With the holiday season coming up, we need to stop living in fear, you never know how many holidays you have left.” As someone that has seen what this can do to someone up close and personal, we do need to be living in fear. You can skip one set of holidays so you can have many more with the people you care about most.

So, if you can’t handle the thought of death, I would suggest you skip this part.
