Architectural Inspiration Design
In my spare time I often play games such as Minecraft which is an open world sandbox game where the player is able to do anything. In my spare time when I do play this game with my friends because I find it boring on its own although some people enjoy it. I often spend my entire time during the sessions just building. These two homes are two buildings that I have built within a server where me and my friends play quite often when playing modded Minecraft. I enjoy building in Minecraft particularly because it allows for freedom for what the player can do ranging from dirt houses to giant castles. This picture illustrates the world that me and my friends have started quite recently where I spent a bit of time remaking the house that I have created in Maya inside of Minecraft due to its design and how easy it was to make.

Medieval Homes
Homes in the medieval era were used with the scarce resources that the people had such as the wood around them and some hay for the roofs. Hay acted as a great way to keep out water without having the roof collapse due to its limited weight. Back then, the average civilian didn't have the resources to transport materials across different nations and continents with transport being done by horses across harsh ground or sometimes even on foot with the civilian carrying their luggage behind them if they were less fortunate. Due to this, the homes were made from this cheap material that could be acquired from anywhere and any random merchant willing to sell.

Maya Rendering
In order to firstly render in Maya I had to add a light, to do this I went into the render tab and added a globe light which surrounds the entire area.
I then clicked on the second option in this tab to open up the rendering menu.
Once the rendering was complete, the quality was pixelated and so I went into Arnold settings, changed the perspecting to HD 1080 along with the peculiar setting which I turned up in order to get rid of the pixelated look of the image.

Jemini Studio
Jemini Studio is also a great source to look at in terms of 3D artists. This is due to the fact that they have a lot of architectural designs from different eras throughout their artstation profile which would allow for me to grab ideas and inspiration from for my project. Looking at their profile would be incredibly helpful for what I am making and therefore this is a great specialist person to look at for this project.

Sabri Firat Demir
Sabri Firat Demir is a 3D artist that is part of Titanverse Entertainment which is a company that focuses on creating 3D medieval architectural models. This person is a specialist in terms of this aspect so it could be a great opportunity to look at some of his work such as this church that has been presented here in order to gather some ideas of how to model buildings and other aspects for my game. Looking at the work of someone who specializes in this field is important because they would have aspects to certain parts in the certain field area that I would otherwise not see as a beginner and so looking over their work is a great way to learn and realize how certain things are meant to be done and optimized.

For Honor
youtube
For honor is a medieval styled game that you just can not go wrong with. This game has pretty much everything a player would wish in terms of fights. Allies, enemies, large scaled battles along with small scaled battles between players called duels. This game immerses the player into their character when confronting a large number of enemy soldiers trying to keep the line in place with the allied NPC's. This game was one of my personal favorites to play when I wanted to experience something medieval because every single battle felt newer in a way and you could not get bored of repetition. This game is a good example of medieval games to look at when getting inspiration due to its immersive combat system along with its great architectural design choices and natural landscape choices.

Age of Empires
youtube
Age of Empires is a medieval styled strategy game which is constantly evolving with each new version that comes out in terms of graphics and overall gameplay with more stuff to do. This game sits particularly good with me as I had played it when I was younger. I played Age of Empires III (2005 version), when I was around 6-7 years old. This game is the reason I got into strategy games and the reason I still enjoy them to this day. As a kid I adored the ways you could strategize in order to attack and take over enemies in order to win, you could flank them, send invaders with ladders and infiltrate from the inside and much more. This game is particularly important when looking at medieval styled games because of its correlation to keeping itself inside that time period throughout all of its games with the exception of developing muskets and cannons. I can grab inspiration from here on how the buildings should look like and how the natural landscape should blend in with the architecture.

Kingmakers is a newer game that focuses on the aspect of the medieval era with a twist. The game trailer stars off displaying average knight battles with swords and kingdoms but quickly swaps over by implementing firearms in it. This game is incredibly unique as you can play from multiple perspectives such as controlling an army from above or being below with the army fighting alongside them. This game is also unique in the ways it utilizes modern weaponry and other random things in the battles. In this game you as the player are able to drive a modern car through the medieval armies. This is an interesting twist to what would otherwise be an average strategy medieval game and this is what has led this game to gain so much popularity from just a trailer. This game utilizes medieval architecture as well allowing the player to build their own kingdom that they can then explore in person. I personally find this game very unique and want to try it out one day.

Assassins' Creed Valhalla
youtube
Assassins' Creed Valhalla is a great game to compare what I want to go for during my project but I will not be going as large due to how unexperienced I am. Valhalla is a visually stunning game while my game will look low poly because I still have no idea how to texture buildings very well and it is a thing I need to focus on doing if I wish to create something that's visually good in a future project. Assassins' Creed Valhalla follows the story of a Viking and their troops ravaging throughout Medieval England in order to make a home for themselves. This game does great in displaying how religious the Saxon's were back then and it also does well in representing the clashes between their gods. As you play throughout this game you get to go throughout villages and pillage them in order to gain loot but as you are in those villages you see churches and a lot of followers. The Viking's also have their own story lines in terms of Norse Mythology with their own DLC's dedicated to purely playing as Odin, Loki and the other Norse God's.
Overall, this game is a great example of something to look at when making a game based in the medieval era due to how accurate some of the aspects in this game are as to beliefs.

Game Medieval History
When originally constructing the proposal for my project I focused on Greek mythology and had some ideas of combining multiple Godly figures from different mythologies into one game where they fight. I soon realized this would be very hard for me to do as a beginner and so I chose to swap over. One thing that I remember studying very well in my previous school were the Anglo Saxons and their history including architectural designs and what not. This sparked the idea of building some medieval designed buildings for my game to be located in. To begin with this project, I had started to build a fortress.
The idea of the fortress was something that I got from a film series called The Last Kingdom. This is one of my favorite series of all time and it is where I like to grab inspiration for a lot of my work whether it is for college or something else. This series follows the story of a boy called Uhtred who was born a Saxon, raised a Dane but fought for both sides in wars while debating what God he should follow, due to this he was called Uhtred the Godless. In this series, most of the battles and scenes are held either in open fields or fortresses/castles which are either in Wessex or other places around the country like Bebbanburg which is what Uhtred fights to regain. I wanted to make a small reference to this and so decided to build a fortress. Once the fortress was complete I decided that I wouldn't know how to implement it into Greek Mythology anyway so I changed the direction of my project and went fully towards the medieval era with my own little spin of it. I used Saxon architecture but combined it with ancient Romanian architecture. I made a church in the middle of the fortress to be the center but instead of being a Catholic church, I added an Orthodox cross on top which is a religion in Eastern Europe and many more places around the world, this cross was added mostly as a symbol of my own religion and that is why I wanted it to be in this game. My game is situated around the 12th century where people were extremely religious and so I could not pass on making something like this without a church.
I also worked on some small little structures such as homes and attempted to make some shopping stands and what not to add a little more "life" to the fortress. I learnt how to create fabric on Maya in order to add a "cover" on top of the stands to illustrate how they looked back then and how they still look now in order to keep the products dry but as I went to transport it over to Unreal Engine, it failed to export and so I gave up and just kept the stand without the covers.
Overall, I am no longer going to work on an ancient Greek game where I have God's fighting but I will be working on a medieval styled game with some slight combat mechanics and some enemies laid out around the map that I have created.

Landscape
youtube
In order to create a landscape I watched this video to remember how to paint the land and actually utilize the tool. This video provided me with the needed information to begin doing my own thing in terms of landscape. One thing that it showed me which was really useful because I could not figure out was how to select a material for the paintbrush in the landscape menu to give the ground texture and so this helped me a lot.
I tried to get grass and trees foliage from Quixel Bridge but for some reason it doesn't let me use it and so I resorted to using the unreal engine marketplace which proved to be useful in terms of finding high quality trees and more.
While browsing for trees I also found a free asset pack for characters. Since I will not be spending any time designing and making characters during this project because I have no idea how and it will probably take too long to do I decided to grab the free asset pack and use it myself since the description allows for it to be used in game projects as stated by the person who made it.
