Hi all, I know I don't really post much any more, but things have gotten really busy.

I have a huge favor to ask, my girlfriend's cat went missing the other day and it's breaking her heart. Orion is an indoor only cat and has never been outside before. She got out the other night and we haven't been able to find her. My girlfriend has severe anxiety and PTSD and Orion though not licensed, has been her emotional support animal.

If anyone can spare even a few dollars, please help us find her.

She went missing in Euless Texas, 76039, on Thursday night we think around 11pm. We think she ran out when we took our dog out before bed.

(230620) LOONA, Orbit & the Boycott Dear Orbits, On June 16th 2023, the five remaining members (HaSeul, YeoJin, Yves, Go Won, Olivia Hye) won their lawsuits to terminate their exclusive contracts [note: they had previously lost the first trial as they had made some changes to their contracts 1-2 years ago]. This means that now all twelve members’ exclusive contracts have been suspended. I’d like to thank everyone who supported LOONA by participating in the boycott, sending them supportive messages, filling out petition forms to help the appeal of the last five remaining members, … One very important thing I want to point out is that LOONA’s exclusive contracts have been temporarily suspended and not terminated, their lawsuits are not over yet. Chuu’s lawsuit, the first member who wanted to terminate her exclusive contract and filed a lawsuit in December 2021, is still ongoing and we will get a final verdict on August 17th. Additionally, I’d like to remind everyone how BlockBerry kicked out Chuu, tried to ruin her image and career, has tried to blacklist the members whose contracts were suspended, transferred the exclusive contracts of the members to Universal Music Japan without the members consent, didn’t pay the girls, didn’t let them leave their dorms for more than 20 minutes a day, and much more. The boycott started to help LOONA get freed from BlockBerry and it has partially reached its goal. While the girls are all out of BlockBerry and can freely sign with any company they’d like [note: Except BY4M or its subsidiary ATRP, because of BlockBerry], their contracts are merely temporarily suspended and their lawsuits aren’t concluded yet. Discontinuing the boycott would only benefit BlockBerry who still has the rights to LOONA’s music and to whom the profits from the projects they signed while under BlockBerry will go to. It is very likely BlockBerry will still try to hinder the girls’ careers like they have done in the past. You can support the LOONA members through their post-BlockBerry projects (ODD EYE CIRCLE’s July comeback and Europe tour; Chuu’s singles, upcoming album, youtube channels; OEC+ and Hyunjin on Fab; ViVi on Fromm etc). For the time being, I expect everyone to continue the boycott like they’ve been doing for the past seven months. Thoughts from an inadequate fanfiction author

I just read a Reddit post about feelings of inadequacy and jealousy in relation to other’s writing, that clawing in your stomach when you read something that is so gripping, so incredibly paced, or simply so wildly popular (dripping with kudos, comments, what have you) that you just want to quit, because you can’t write like that, you will never be as talented, as popular, etc, etc.

It’s such a ugly emotion that I hate to even admit to it, but I just feel like so many writers need to hear this and need to know they are not alone when they’re overcome with this feeling.

The thing that has really helped me is remembering that I’m the only person on earth who can tell the stories I tell.

Every person has a history and background that makes them uniquely capable of creating what they do.

I try to equate it to music. There are indie artists whose music I adore (Bright Eyes is a band that specifically comes to mind). What if your favorite band listened to Mozart or Beyoncé and thought, I will never be as talented at composing as Mozart or as famous as Beyonce, and therefore, I will never write another song.

How sad would you be, how bereft, if the artists you love gave up because they weren’t “the best?”

You are that perfect writer, not to everyone, but to someone.

That means something. It is so difficult to remember, but it all comes back to self-esteem. You are worthwhile and your writing is worthwhile NOT because it’s the best, but because there’s only one person in the world who could write it, and there is someone out there who needs to read it. Maybe you can make a stranger smile or feel or laugh, if only for a minute, and what an incredible gift that is.

So I urge you not to dim your shine for any reason. Keep going, find your audience, get better, KEEP AT IT. The worst thing you can do is give up, because that’s the only sure way you will never be that kind of amazing writer you wish to emulate.

If you’re curious, I wrote in college, then took a 10 year break due to feelings of inadequacy after having writer’s block and receiving a lukewarm response to some chapters I posted. I decided 2020 was my year and have written 42 works (some short stories, some long ones) since January. I swore to myself that I wouldn’t let anything stop me from enjoying my hobby again, and that’s why I want to encourage myself and others to feed their passions.

  As a Colombian woman, it really warms my heart to see how many people are loving Encanto—all the positive reactions and the praise the movie has received not only from the critics but from the audience in general make me happy beyond measure. I, as well as pretty much everyone in this country, have always resented the negative representation we have had in the media. 

  For instance, “Narcos” is one of the best examples of this hurtful representation that continues to profit from some of the darkest moments of recent history, events that we all would like to bury in the past.

  Nonetheless, the discourse I have seen about Encanto, especially on Tumblr, has disappointed me greatly. Most people have focused on coming out with headcanons about the characters’ sexuality and gender, or writing Camilo x reader fics (do you realize he’s a teenager? please stop) shifting completely the real focus of the movie. Listen, I am not going to tell anyone what to do or to gatekeep these characters. The fact that you think Isabela is a lesbian doesn’t bother me; what I’d really like to remind people of, specially queer white folks, is that this movie isn’t for you. 

  This movie was made first and foremost for Colombians and Latinos. Therefore, when a movie like Encanto, which excels in every aspect and has finally given us the representation that we have been dying for, gets its every valuable aspect outshone by these woke and for the most part ridiculous takes (Bruno is autistic bc the knock on wood thing? Tell me you are white without telling me you are white.)  It is expected that people like me won’t feel happy.  

  That being said, in this post I want to tell you about the amazing job Disney made at representing the armed conflict in my country and what this representation and the song “Dos Oruguitas” mean for Colombian people.

Tips for Writing a Difficult Scene

Every writer inevitably gets to that scene that just doesn't want to work. It doesn't flow, no matter how hard you try. Well, here are some things to try to get out of that rut:

1. Change the weather

I know this doesn't sound like it'll make much of a difference, but trust me when I say it does.

Every single time I've tried this, it worked and the scene flowed magically.

2. Change the POV

If your book has multiple POV characters, it might be a good idea to switch the scene to another character's perspective.

9/10 times, this will make the scene flow better.

3. Start the scene earlier/later

Oftentimes, a scene just doesn't work because you're not starting in the right place.

Perhaps you're starting too late and giving too little context. Perhaps some description or character introspection is needed before you dive in.

Alternatively, you may be taking too long to get to the actual point of the scene. Would it help to dive straight into the action without much ado?

4. Write only the dialogue

If your scene involves dialogue, it can help immensely to write only the spoken words the first time round.

It's even better if you highlight different characters' speech in different colors.

Then, later on, you can go back and fill in the dialogue tags, description etc.

5. Fuck it and use a placeholder

If nothing works, it's time to move on.

Rather than perpetually getting stuck on that one scene, use a placeholder. Something like: [they escape somehow] or [big emotional talk].

And then continue with the draft.

This'll help you keep momentum and, maybe, make the scene easier to write later on once you have a better grasp on the plot and characters.

Trust me, I do this all the time.

It can take some practice to get past your Type A brain screaming at you, but it's worth it.

So, those are some things to try when a scene is being difficult. I hope that these tips help :)
