Vocaloid Heacanons for the Soul (1/???)

Currently in my drafts, I'm writing a timeline for the creation of Vocaloids in my AU. I already did how Fanloids would be for my AU, so hey here's some headcanons I might draw into reality soon.

(Also of course, if you don't agree with one of these or they don't line up with your headcanons, respectfully, don't yap angrily at me for it. That's just rude. Also everything here is pretty much fictitious and really doesn't have anything to do with the actual creation of the Vocaloids! This is just for fun.)

Worldbuilding/Lore Headcanons:

Vocaloids are robots! Meaning when they "sleep", they shut down and get charged like a phone for energy. They're also painted and have artificial (albeit realistic) hair.

They're also designed with certain ages in mind. For example Miku's designed to be 16, Rin/Len are 14, Luka's 20, Flower/Fukase are 19 etc.

Meiko and Kaito were recieved terribly by the public at first, so bad in fact that their original company went bankrupt and were sold to another company who eventually created Miku.

Miku was a very nervous singer at first when she was created. Meiko and Kaito helped her since they had...experience with the public making fools out of them.

Meiko, Kaito, and Miku have a familial relationship! Meiko and Kaito were the first other robots that Miku met when she was still in her BETA design.

Miku was a little thing when she was first designed. Meiko and Kaito basically served as her parents when she was first being introduced. Miku's developer noticed this, and let them make her comfortable enough to sing in front of a crowd since they seemed to know how to make Miku less scared.

That said, when Miku was redesigned, she was made taller and more confident to show Meiko and Kaito "hey, you guys did great raising her!"

Meiko and Kaito were sappy parents when they saw Miku "grow up" and get recieved positively by the public. (Because as I said, their initial release was a shitstorm)

Miku's developer noticed Miku was lonely since when Meiko and Kaito were redesigned, they recieved positive attention and were borrowed a lot to sing for users. So she came up with twins that could serve as friends for Miku.

THEY BECAME INSTANT BESTIES WOW THAT WAS FAST

The new vocaloids were created as twins representing left and right, since Miku already was basically the middle and the "star".

General Character Headcanons (there's a lot sorry):

Luka is Meiko and Kaito's backup for babysitting the younger designed Vocaloids. She hates this so...so much.

Luka's bolts fall out easily since she's stressed a lot. (Poor lady needs the robot equivalent of Tylenol)

Gakupo is Luka's emotional support. The guy's got great advice.

Len is trans (FtM).

When Len came out as trans, it was honestly a really sweet and happy day for him. Rin was an overjoyed sibling, Meiko and Kaito were sappy sobbing happy parents, and Miku was a very happy friend that gifted him a microphone with his name on it. Support all around!

Miku uses she/they to identify too!

Miku is Pan, Rin is a lesbian, Len is Bi, Luka is Aroace, and Meiko/Kaito are Bi.

Miku has some of Meiko's confidence and Kaito's silliness since she was basically raised by them.

Rin gets her paint scratched a lot since she's a...high energy....gremlin child.

She also needs to get charged a lot since her energy is used a TON by her gremlin nature.

Len likes video games and can beat anyone at them. He's pretty proud about this, especially if he beats Fukase since Fukase acts like a smug jackass around everyone.

Len and Piko have dumb crushes on each other but never say anything because they're cringeass 14 year old dorks. Of course they're gonna be awkward.

Piko's gang (AKA "Meme Squad") always bother him about this, ESPECIALLY Fukase that guy doesn't shut up.

Rin tries being cool around the "older designed" Vocaloids (Flower, Fukase, Gumi) She fails at this a lot since, like her twin, she's a cringe 14 year old and that's okay.

Flower acts more of a big sister to Piko and Oliver. No one knows what Fukase is. He's a creature with this blob pet. Jk he's a cool friend that likes to pick on Piko (playfully) and let Oliver play with Point.

Fukase's the nicest to Oliver since he's the type of guy to feel REAL awkward if a kidloid starts getting sad because of him.

Flower and Fukase also have romantic tension (deadpan lady and dumb snarky guy trope GO).

Gumi's a sweet older sister to both Miku and Rin (see Rin you don't need to "act cool" around her you dumb robot)

Oliver and Yohioloid are designed to be brothers. Dude look at them.

really needed to show how the spiral hill staff gets along with each other incredibly well, especially Bonnie, Sara, and Minnie.

Also what Minnie's talking about is a conversation she had with Vex about his recent relationship with Mania, to which slipped out how Bonnie was with Amara (which really, anyone could see just by looking at them) and how Sara's had a keen eye for Mayhem.

Minnie is now deciding to bring it up because she's genuinely curious about how her friends are into Insanity demons...since well. Spiral Town doesn't like them so much.

"Nyxa! Nyxa!" Nellie said, holding a pair of scissors.

"Yeh?" Nyxa asked, glancing down at the scissors. "What's the scissors for, Libby?"

"My dad said he was gonna cut my hair but he's reeeeally busy...can you and Lily do it? Pleeeeease?" Nellie gave her best puppy eyes.

Nyxa was nervous, she wasn't a barber of course. But she had watched her mom cut her feathers before, it couldn't be too hard.

"Alright, I'll try. Lils, Libby said we can cut her hair!" Nyxa called Lily from the other room. Lily peeked in, curious as ever.

"Us?" she questioned. "But...we..."

"Probably don't know what we're doing? Yeh, got that much. But it's what Libby wants." Nyxa said, pulling a chair over for Nellie to sit on, the small vampire excitedly sitting in front of the mirror.

Nyxa started to trim the bottom of Nellie's hair, Lily fidgeting with her paws.

"N-Nyxa I really don't know about this..." Lily said, peering over to Nyxa's side. Nyxa kept looking at the mirror then back at Nellie's hair.

"Relax, Lils I can do this. Mum does it all the time with my feathers." Nyxa cut of a large, uneven chunk of Nellie's hair. Lily bit her lip.

"Nyxaaaa that was a lot of hair!" she squeaked anxiously, looking at the amount of hair that fell onto Nellie's shoulder and the floor surrounding the chair. Unfortunately for both Lily and Nellie, Nyxa was too confident to stop now.

"Just a second, I've almost got it perfect." Nyxa said, making the final cut to Nellie's butchered hair. Then Nyxa looked up, reality ensuing.

"Oh...oh boy." Nyxa said. She couldn't see it in the mirror, as Nellie only appeared as clothes in the mirror's perspective, but stepping front of Nellie and seeing the uneven hair she now had made Nyxa shift uncomfortably.

"How's it look?" Nellie asked innocently, kicking her legs on the chair happily.

"Dunno if you want that answer, Libby..." Nyxa said, clenching the scissors nervously. She was already thinking of Mr. Finnegan's reaction.

"Ohh Nyxa what did you do..." Lily said shakily.

"I don't know...but today I'm grateful vampires don't have reflections."

Long overdue references of the misfit sisters. I've been locking in these days with lore. [Click "keep reading" for some more lore-ish stuff]

So these are just the basic tip-of-the-iceberg references for the Misfit Sisters. Nothing too much on them in their pages I provided up top, but allow me to dump a little about their background here!

Nellie, Nyxa, and Lily all met when they were much younger. Nellie was 5, Nyxa was 13, and given that Corvenia (Nyxa's mom) was good friends with Finnegan when she got to Batsborough, she would get to see Nyxa frequently while Corvenia babysat her. Nyxa was actually sketchy of Nellie at first, nervous that her mom would pay attention to little Nellie more than her. But that didn't happen! Nyxa actually really liked Nellie's company considering she was scared of the new environment she was forced into with her mom, and Nellie was kind of a symbol of "everything's gonna be fine".

Lily and Nyxa were friends before Nyxa was forced into Batsborough, they always had playdates with each other as their moms did business together, so to Lily's surprise she would start to see Nyxa way more than she already did. Lily also met Nellie during this time, and the three became a trio, seeing each other as sisters.

Some Dynamics:

-Nyxa's actually the least mad towards Nellie and Lily. She cannot fully bring herself to get angry at them like she does per say Baxie or really anyone else in Batsborough.

-Nyxa's the one calling Nellie "Libby" as she kept heavily mispronouncing Nellie's name when they were little. They both found it funny, so Nyxa's nicknamed her that ever since.

-Nellie and Lily can communicate in bat squeaks. Nyxa of course gets [playfully] annoyed since she doesn't understand what the hell they're saying.

-Lily and Nellie also used to ask Nyxa to "caw" at them. Nyxa said no every time.

-Lily knows exactly what calms Nyxa down and will do it when she feels Nyxa's going to combust into small pieces.

-Lily helped Nyxa around Batsborough when the Crows were first forced there. Of course vampires and bat people weren't used to seeing a different species in their area, but they would never discriminate Nyxa. The vampires/bat people of Batsborough are very accepting.

returning to my roots for just one second ha. [Click "keep reading" for some design notes and lore! I gave my own interpretations of their personalities/character below. :D]

So I've been really into writing recently. For those who follow my main you would've seen me post lore dumps on my ocs! So honestly I thought it'd be fun to come up with some fanloid concepts. Itz funsiez.

Fanloids are what they sound like; a fan's interpretation of a pre-existing Vocaloid. These guys can be fucking anything. A fan's imagination has no limits. Two of the most notable versions of a fan's Miku are the "dark mikus"; Zatsune and Hagane Miku. Zatsune's the "evil" villainous version of Miku, while Hagane's kinda just a chill metalhead version. The two are like sisters and bond over their Fanloid origin, but they're completely different in personality.

Zatsune takes pride in being a Miku Fanloid. Miku is undoubtedly the most popular Vocaloid in existence, so she wears being an interpretation of the world's most famous singing robot like a badge. She's pretty full of herself, sort of envious of the popularity Miku really gets, so much so that she'll impersonate Miku (in the worst way possible) so the other Vocaloids are like "man Miku's kinda being a dick today". She's sort of the villain that acts as a complete pushover and foils their own plans every single time.

Hagane's the more laid back one. She honestly was just created to be a somewhat pessimistic metalhead version of Miku. She has no vendettas towards Miku like Zatsune does. She kinda finds Zatsune's jealousy silly considering she's not the only Fanloid of Miku out there (girl that ego is HUGE on Zatsune). Zatsune sometimes tries dragging her into the antics of bullying Miku, Rin, and Len, but is always met with Hagane not giving a shit and kinda telling her to chill out. Her persona onstage is more aggressive and eccentric, but backstage, she mostly she keeps to herself. She just likes the guitar.....and LED lights.

You might be wondering what Miku herself thinks of these two? You know what they say. Identity theft is the biggest form of flattery! ...Jk no she doesn't mind the Fanloid Mikus, but I mean how would you react seeing two dark versions of yourself at first. Naturally the other main Vocaloids were like "wtf" when they saw two other Mikus show up.

Okay now for the design notes!:

Zatsune was modeled to have more sharper edges compared to Miku's roundness. Hagane was designed to be more lanky given her more "doomer" personality.

Both Zatsune and Hagane edited their own voices so it's "rougher" since originally, as prototypes, they just had the same voice as Miku herself. ...And they didn't like that.

Zatsune's also pretty picky about singing. If it's a Disney-villain esque musical number, hell yeah! Horror music? Hell yeah! Sappy music about friendship? Hell no!

Being robots, they can paint themselves without worry. Hence the black lipstick on both of them.

Hagane's hair's a little messier due to her being a hardcore metal robot. Rocking it out on stage has gotta mess that up a little bit.

Hagane uses glitter spray in her hair. Listen even the goth-loving metalhead can like glitter.

The Insaniams know SHIT about mortal life. Stealing sanity and scaring the people above Hell is what they were made for, therefore it's all they know. That is until they met their mortal companions!

Amara met Carly a long time ago, which was her first actual exposure to a mortal being she cared about. It first peaked her interest about what she was actually doing and her purpose as an Insanity demon. ...But that's a story for another time! Let's fast forward to when she met Bonnie and eventually reconnected with Carly at Spiral Hill. Amara was starting to realize how much she wanted to understand mortals, and then understood how they dress. So of course, she was going to request that her most cared about mortals she met to assist her with this. So Carly took it upon herself! Of course, Amara doesn't get it, but Carly thinks it matches her purple hair lol.

Mania had the same realization his sister had, but in a lighter, different way. He was mostly interested in how Amara impacted Vex so long ago, but then started to realize how much he could actually connect with Vex. That's when he started falling in love with not only Vex, but mortal culture in general. Of course, being a demon, he doesn't know stealing's wrong. Stealing's what an Insanity demon does. (He's a little confused but he's got the spirit)

Mayhem's the sibling that usually doesn't follow what he's younger siblings do, he's pretty independent. ...Buuuut this time he wanted a turn in seeing what they were doing. Just for the fun of it. So he tried dressing in the "mortal clothes" his siblings were. Turns out he enjoyed it! Doesn't show on his face, but he did like it! ...And so did Sara. Sara's starting to get why Bonnie and Vex are so much in love with their demon partners. (She's shy though, give her a minute to tell the big scary demon guy about her feelings.)

Finnegan ran his fingers through his hair, sitting at his desk. Mr. Tempest had already gone home for the day, and he had put his young daughter to bed. His detective work was officially off the clock, but his mind certainly wasn't.

It was late into the night (at least how vampire-folk see the night), and Finnegan was starting to get a headache. This current case was really making him stressed. All of Batsborough regarded Finnegan as the best vampire detective to live, of course lots of patrons would ask for his hand. It really didn't help that his work as a detective made him worried that he didn't have enough time for his little daughter Nellie-Bell. Thank Vlad that Corvenia offered to look after her while he was working.

He then looked up at the portrait on the wall. The beautifully painted portrait of his late wife, Necilia Grimm. Necilia was his everything. It was great how highly regarded she was in Batsborough. Truly, it made him feel euphoric how the people of the town thought of his wife. But of course, this didn't change how she was no longer with him there. This thought started to plague Finnegan. The emotions started to flood to his head. Tempest not being there to snap him out of his thoughts made everything all the worse. Stress along with his current grief of Necilia's death really was starting to flood his mind. Tears pricked his eyes as he gripped his hair in frustration.

Then, he heard the smallest of footsteps behind him.

"Daddy?" a small voice questioned in the dimly lit room. Finnegan shot up. He turned around to see Nellie-Bell, fully awake. This was embarrassing. Finnegan never wanted Nellie to see him in the state he was, but what choice did he have now. He let out a sigh, and put on a smile for the little vampire girl behind him.

"Ah, Nellie, hon...I thought I put you to bed a while ago." he said, getting up to hold Nellie in his arms. He smiled at her, trying to make completely sure she didn't get worried about his stressed appearance. Little Nellie always had a keen eye for noticing others' emotions. Luckily for him, Nellie didn't notice.

"You did! But I couldn't sleep. It's hard...and kinda scary." she said, a fake pout on her face. Finnegan chuckled. That's something Necilia would've definitely said.

"Is that so?" he joked back to her. Nellie nodded, a smile on her bright face. She then cast her attention to the wall where Finnegan sat.

"Why are you up so late, daddy? The sun's almost out, right?" Nellie asked curiously. Finnegan bit his lip for a split second, looking at anywhere but his daughter. It was going to be hard to make up a five year old's understanding of "I'm stressed, this case is a pain, and I'm greiving over your dead mother." Finnegan swallowed.

"I-It is, sweetie...I just...daddy just had to, uh...finish some important... work things! Yes! Detectives work really hard." he said. Nailed it.

"Oh! Is that why they stay up all night?" Nellie asked, looking at Finnegan's desk with crumpled papers, his coat on the floor, newspaper clippings, and three pens (two of them dried of ink) spread on the desk.

"It certainly is." Finnegan said with a light chuckle. Nellie then looked above her father's messed desk, noticing the portrait of Necilia. He attention was caught. Finnegan noticed this. Oh no. Here it comes.

"Is that mommy?" Nellie asked. Finnegan felt that familiar sink in his stomach when Nellie asked that. He took a very subtle deep breath, prepared for Nellie to ask for more depth.

"That's...that's mommy, yes!" Finnegan choked through as normally as he could've. He was internally begging the universe that Nellie would only ask that one question. He knew it wouldn't be, she was a curious five year old.

"She's really pretty!" Nellie said, Finnegan nodding. So far, so good. "Where is she?" Bombshell.

Finnegan felt his hands tingle. How in the world was he supposed to tell a five year old about death. Even worse, brutal death. He'd tell her one day, just not now. She's a five year old for God's sake. Finnegan returned to biting his lip. Nellie looked back at him, a frown coming onto her face.

"Dad?" she asked. That made it worse. Finnegan took a deep breath, any tears that were going to come out being swallowed back.

"She's...not here...in front of us, Nellie. But in a way she's..." Finnegan looked back at the portrait, remembering something Necilia told him a few years into their marriage.

"She's with us as long as we think about her." he said. Nellie turned her head curiously. She took a minute to think about what her father meant. Then it clicked.

"Oh! So that's why that painting's there. So even though she's not right here, she's there in the painting so we remember her." Finnegan looked at Nellie in awe for a second, then with a relaxed, touched smile.

"That's exactly why, sweet-fang." he said, holding her close. His eyes were watering from what his daughter had just said, but by God he wasn't letting those forbidden tears come out.

"Are you okay, dad?" Nellie asked. Finnegan sighed, giving up and letting one tear come out, wiping it away with his shoulder.

"I'm just fine, hon. I was just a bit sad today. But you know what?" he asked Nellie, giving her a smile.

"What?" she asked, a curious expression on her face.

"You just made feel a lot better, missy." he said, poking her nose to make her laugh.

Finnegan took Nellie back up stairs to bed, tucking her in gently. He may not have Necilia anymore, but her words definitely carried over into the special little bundle of joy that is Nellie-Bell.
