goddammit facebook and instagram sure want to change that, huh. I still maintain that the vast majority of widely-viewed content is human-made, but replies and such are much less reliable
I think Dead Internet Theory is a bit overblown, at least in the online spaces I'm in. I for sure know bots could NOT be coming up with most of the stuff I see around, and they're expensive to maintain anyway.
Most of us are human, and if they're a bot, they're usually shilling some product. The Internet is not dead, it is alive and festering as always, with a couple of bots here and there.

I've just discovered garlic makes your blood worse at clotting, thus making you easier to drink for vampires.
I can't believe they've fooled us this long. The reason we think garlic is a successful ward against vampires is because we don't see everyone else, who was easily sucked dry like a caprisun.

Fully agreed. I think some of the comments that say "It's fine to use slurs in a jokingly derogatory manner if you're part of the community" are right but missing the point about reclamation.
Personally, I hold that opinion, but I just think it doesn't count as reclamation of the word itself.
That second image is something I wouldn't say myself, I do think at face level it's homophobic, that kind of sentiment stems from internalised homophobia of assuming that there is a difference between 'the good gays' and 'the faggots', upholding a negative stereotype and demeaning flamboyant gay people (it might not be homophobic if in his spare time he was a drag queen and the people he was telling the joke to knew that, nuance does exist). One could summarise that part as 'queers can be queerphobic', which I think everyone would agree with, but I think it's worth discussing the idea of reclamation too.
In my opinion, if I call a parrot gay for its colours or my friend sends me an image of moo deng with the word faggot after I talk about my partner (real event), it's not reclamation of the word to make it positive, but it's making fun of homophobes. The word is not being reclaimed, the word itself is still derogatory, but the usage of the derogatory term is being associated with a silly person who thinks that a parrot's natural colours are associated with homosexuality, or someone who thinks an image of moo deng holds weight.
At the end of the day, some people might consider that reclamation and if you do, I see no issue with that. But if a far right conservative gay is calling people faggots for wearing pink, that's definitely not reclamation and him being gay doesn't matter. That's my two cents on the topic, at least.
Made a little something on slur reclamation.

When I was a very suicidal trans activist in Texas, Benjamin Sisko saying “sure, you would [die for your people]. Dying gets you off the hook. The question is: are you willing to live for your people?” changed and possibly saved my life. It’s up there with “if we are going to be damned, let us be damned for who we really are” from Picard. Star Trek not only shows us a better world, it teaches us how to make it there

#thanks random TTS donation for the livestreamer Pirate Software#this is going to be in my mind for years#vampires#garlic#if you're curious it's because apparently garlic reduces thromboxane produced by platelets

*assuming that this is talking in general terms about non-roleplay ASMR content, where the focus is just the sounds themselves. Things like rustling, crackling, whispering nothings, making general noises.
Had a random thought and am curious what the distribution looks like. This might be skewed by people searching for ASMR and rating it more highly than in a truly random group.

Random, weird thought I had while considering the election:
Americans, you guys technically have freedom of religion, right? It'd cause a billion problems, but I feel like you could come up with a religion with direct holy protections for queer identities and then run with it if they repeal anti-discrimination laws for queer people. Get fired for your job for wearing a work-appropriate rainbow lanyard? Trans flag pin on your bag? Religious discrimination.
I know there is modern satanism, but I'm not sure you could directly link being queer to it in court, since it's more about general personal freedoms. The funnier extension would be getting queer obviously-religious items, like a rainbow pentagram, though I think that'd blow some lids.
It'd also help with creating those supportive communities that are being talked about at the moment, creating networks for people who might be left behind if you make a church and have monthly meetings.
Of course there are a billion problems, it'd increase Christian nationalist hate, validate the idea that it's just an ideology, most states are fire-at-will and can make up whatever reason they like to fire you and queer people of other faiths might be forced into it if they're unsafe. And it might be pointless because there's already a lot of religious discrimination in the USA.
That being said, if things get that desperate, I don't think it's the worst idea.

#i just think it's a bit exaggerated these days#it could become real in the future but right now the proportions of human users and content to artificial users and content are massive#yes some twitter reply sections are strange and filled with bots but twitter is far from being the entirety of the internet#and if i were to guess it's to farm followers to sell accounts#nothing as dark as 'we're all alone on the internet and it's just a few bots liking my posts about dragons'#unless it is and you guys are all bots in which case my apologies for being insensitive#dead internet theory#thoughts#bots
