I told my students they're allowed to be creative and don't have to be factual when writing about themselves in German because I keep getting questions like "what if I don't have roommates or what if I don't have hobbies" and I'm like guys just make something up! Have fun! I won't fact check you!
So now I am grading homework where a student is claiming to be from North Korea and his hobby is tax fraud

I can't sleep, originally it was bc I was too giddy so I did some sit ups to calm the energy but now I'm depressed again so I can't sleep for a different reason.
Thinking about work and school and how I hate people and how I wonder if I'm an asshole
I miss hawaii

umm i need reassurance that my presence is wanted but i can’t ask for reassurance because that’s really Embarrassing and it wouldn’t feel genuine if i asked for it

i know re-animator being a metaphor for homosexuality is seemingly the most popular interpretation (and i do feel that it fits rather well!), but i feel strongly about it being a metaphor for coercion and abuse, honestly.
i think the idea of dan letting someone into his life, and that person repeatedly taking advantage of him, and him knowing this, but still not being able to turn him away is a really strong story to tell. meg tells him that she's uncomfortable around him, his teachers and authority figures tell him what a bad influence he is, and even dan feels incredibly skeptical and on his toes for their entire relationship, but he still can't just say No. herbert isolates dan from his loved ones (meg, dean halsey, francesca) until the only person that he has to fall back on is herbert. i find that whether this is intentional or not on herbert's part is also incredibly important, because if he isn't even aware of the insane amount of harm he is causing to this person-and i mean, he has to be because of how generally unhappy dan becomes-he justifies it with the thought process of "well, i'm doing him a favor, so it'll end up being worth it in the end." (such as with the creation of the bride for dan, and the idea of being globally recognized for their work)
dan's vulnerability is what makes him so easy to take advantage of-he needs to help people, and he will do whatever it takes to accomplish this-and herbert takes complete advantage of that fact and ruins him. each time dan tries to escape his situation, herbert lures him back in, becuase he knows dan isn't going to say no to him, he knows that dan is easy to convince, and he knows that if he can find a bruise to poke at-such as meg-he can easily reel him back in to have him do whatever he requires. and dan will do it. every time. because he needs to be a good person, and that need eats him alive until he cannot physically bring himself to do anything for anyone-even himself.
