Underrated AFTG quote from Noras extra content, which HIT ME. SO. HARD.
(It is Kevins POV about Neil getting taken by his fathers people)
He considered telling Wymack instead, then made himself a promise: if they hadn’t heard from Neil by such-and-such a time, he’d tell Wymack and Andrew the truth. He’d tell them Neil was gone, gone, gone, that Neil had never existed, that there was no saving him now because in no universe would the Moriyamas let a loose string like Nathaniel live.
Browning beat him to his deadline by four minutes.))
Four minutes.
FOUR MINUTES.
Kevin is looking at his timer, knowing Neil is dead and getting ready to call Wymack. Tell him, that Neil is gone, dead and he should have been years ago.
And he is getting ready to tell Andrew. Andrew, who has never been as attached to anyone ever, Andrew who wasn't going to change, if not for this boy. Andrew, who was already PANICKED searching for Neil. At his worst state. "Hey Andrew. Nathaniel isn't alive. Riko killed him, like he was supposed to"
But Browning called him FOUR MINUTES before Kevins own deadline. Just, just imagine the panic. He would've said EVERYTHING...
Four minutes.

i think i might be the biggest mary hatford defender in the fandom cuz like i am fully aware she fucked him up ROYALLY and that she's by no means a good mother, but it feels like people think she hated neil and PURPOSELY ruined him
speak your truth. mary hatford was not a good mother but think about how she could've left neil. she could've run on her own, probably successfully disappeared too. she could've let him do the second day of raven trials. she could've risked nathan killing him if tetsuji decided.
she didn't even hesitate. she took him and left because there was no way in hell she was letting there even be a chance that neil wouldn't survive. i think mary expected to die on the run from the moment she left but do you know how long they ran without nathan catching up??? EIGHT YEARS. eight years mary hatford kept her son alive and not only that she kept him with her too. no doubt there would've been an opportunity to leave him at an orphanage or something, run away alone, but she didn't just want him to stay alive she wanted to stay with him. she loved him. even when he smiled just like his father did. even when his voice trembled when he lied. even when his hands shook when she taught him how to shoot even when he cried and couldn't hold the needle to stitch up a wound. she couldn't bear losing him.
i don't think she wanted him to run forever. i think part of her hoped that someday he would be able to live a normal life, find people he loved, without keeping one foot out the door all the time, without looking over his shoulder. she told him to never stop running but i think part of her wanted him to. i think she would be proud of where he is now. one of them had to make it.

Okay, I might be pulling this out of my ass but since that finals match was in Evermore that means the foxes should have been wearing their white away jerseys. Which means: the final match was a game of chess.
Not only are they wearing white, but they have first serve (Dan won the coin toss), and near the end the Foxes' king (Neil, because this is a battle between Riko and Neil) changes positions with the tower (Matt, a defenseman that towers over most people) creating the illusion of a castling.
And right there at the end, Riko attempts to kill Neil because they're in front of each other, but that's not how kings work. In the time it takes him to take that step, Andrew closes the gap and strikes. Check mate.

Renee's story where she saves Jean being called Lazarus is literally so important to me.
Jesus was warned not to go back to save Lazarus because it would be too dangerous. They worried he would be stoned to death. He went anyway because he loved him.
And Jesus was too late. When he got to Judea, Lazarus had already been dead for four days. This is where the infamous "Jesus wept" passage comes from. Bringing him back to life was a miracle.
Jean was already dead too. He had been dead for years until Nora decided to save him. And Renee was too late. Too late to save him from the pain and suffering not just of that night but for his whole life. She mourned him too.
Saving him was an act in defiance of the natural order of things, it was a miracle. According to everyone else, it was impossible to get him out of the Nest. But she did, with God at her side, because she loved him, just as Jesus loved Lazarus.
And then Renee gives him her cross, gives him a symbol of that same faith that raised him from the dead.

'"You're a Fox," Andrew said, like it was that simple, and maybe it was.'
I could've added a lot more details to this and it's not 100% accurate to the book, but I had to stop myself or this would've taken me another week to finish lmao

The real reason why Neil and Andrew are perfect for each other is that Neil genuinely enjoys doing taxes (because it's a mundane proof that he's real and allowed to have a normal life) and Andrew would regularly commit massive tax fraud if someone wasn't filing papers for him
