I just got in contact with an 18 years old brazilian writer who, very bravely, wrote and published a book series with a brazilian mithology fantasy trope. Her whole familiy showed so much love for her and her work, I'm just so happy I was able to get in touch with this book and her.

sure your book is a new york times bestseller with a diverse and unique cast of characters, positive reviews from multiple well known authors and agencies, "ideal for fans of [popular published work] and [other popular published work]" and rated 4.99999999/5 stars on goodreads but does it have, like, a plot

Crescent City - Book Review
Hey folks, how are you?
Around here things have been kinda crazy, but, as always, my Uni semester is finally over. That means I'm allowed to be happy again and, therefore, read all the books remaining unread in my bookshelf.
This time, I've decided to start with Sarah J. Maas book Crescent City which has been released a long time ago, but I just didn't feel like it was the right timing for me to read it then. As many of you may know, C.C. goes for a non-typical scenario for Sarah's writing once it selfs declare an "adult fantasy book" to be set in a city full of magic and technology.
Here's where my criticizes start.
3.0/5.0 ☆ (with spoilers)
I'm a frequent reader of Sarah's books, okay? I've read all books of Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses so far released, I even have a book review of A Court of Silver Flames here. That being said, what exactly made this book be declared a grown up book? Or a even better question: why weren't all the other ones declared the same?
I'm not saying drugs, explicit sexual relationships and murders shouldn't be perceived as an adult kind of theme. However, these were already themes of other books Sarah already written. I even dare saying is exactly the same thing as all the rest, but make it with cellphones.
Maybe it was just my expectations, but when she said it was different and it was for adults, I've imagined way different. My expectations were on a kind of "Filhos da Degradação" vibes (that's a Brazilian fantasy novel I'm completely obsessed with and everyone should ready it). I wished she would have more mature characters dealing with some more mature plot and having some more mature experiences. None of that happened.
The characters are a little bit older, which means they're not teenagers, but it's not like they're actual grown ups. Also, if I may be honest with you, Aelin dealt with way tougher things in a way more mature way through the whole TOG then Bryce and Hunt in C.C. Even Aelin and Rowan's relationship is more mature than theirs, so I really don't get where Sarah was going in her mind when creating this whole expectation on this book.
As for the plot... not much difference neither. Sarah chose basic and kept with it until the very last second. The whole thing goes slowly, not much happening, with a lot of suffering and characters in need of therapy. Until she throws a plot twist in you face and then caos.
The plot twist being Hunt acting behind Bryce's back and that being the most senseless choice Sarah could have made. It's just thrown in the middle of the book, with absolute no preparing, with the only intention of chocking the reader. Bryce's reaction is also senseless as she just forgives him with no explanation and wants to change places with him as a slave later, with no talk, no excuses, nothing.
Then a chaotic war that got me upset from the start until its last minute, and end of the story. I don't even feel like talking about the final battle because I feel like it was written with such an lack of care and attention. Things were messed and senseless problems were solved miraculously, not smartly. I was reading and crying the whole scene, because it was sad to see the characters suffering. However, it was all it was, scenes made for making the reader cry. They weren't made to be epic battle scenes or at least reasonable battle scenes.
In resume, I'm upset. I'm giving it a three stars in respect to the time I've spent reading it and to the characters that, in the end of the day, were able to be charismatic and likeable. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time, though, because I really had hope there was a huge plot coming, and there wasn't, there was just mess and lazyness.
Throne of Glass will always be one of my favorite book series and A Court of Silver Flames had my heart but it's been now at least a month I'm trying to read Crescent City's second book and I just can make it. My last thoughts are that I still have hope Sarah will be able to save this plot at some moment, because these characters deserve more.

I'm in the middle of House of Sky and Breath and I hope I'm wrong but that book is so far Sarah's most boring book.
There are so many things happening and I just don't feel excited about any of them...

there’s something about living life deliberately…wearing clothes that you actually want to and that you feel reflect you and your style not just because you’ve had them for years and don’t know what else you would throw on….listening to songs and creating playlists that excite you and represent your actual mood not just listening to songs that you’ve had downloaded for years that don’t make you feel anything special anymore…it’s VERY easy to stay with what you’re comfortable and it might take a bit of experimenting before you find what feels like a deliberate choice that reflects more of YOU but it’s absolutely worth the leap of faith you may have to convince yourself to make in order to stop feeling like a passenger in your own life

Don't sleep at them
Hey guys, I've been off for sometime but I can explain.
So, basically, I've been addicted to these two writers: Elise Kova and Rina Kent. I swear, I must have read almost 8 books from each by now and I just can't stop. They're not underground, however I feel like they could be so much better recognized by now.
You probably haven't seen this discussion unless your from here, but Brazilian booktwitter has been discussing some famous erotic tropes as arguing if morality and safe sex should be put upon fantasy and fetiches in these books. This is such a nice debate to be done and I can't think on better books for this than Rina Kent's ones. She explores the most taboo's as she can in some typical Mafia tropes.
On the other hand we have Elise Kova with a complete different, but just as interesting tropes. She brings a whole high fantasy universe full of faeries, elfs, vampires and arranged marriages that just warm our hearts up. Whenever I'm feeling down or tired of reading my university books, I just come back to hers until I feel more relaxed.
Anyway, I felt like bringing these two amazing women who have been making my month. I would have gone crazy without them and their's creations by now.
